LMAO seriously? At least last year they kept it to normal retail prices.

Apparently Walmart is selling the NECA Tokka and Rahzar two pack again.

who buys this shit? lmao
>>
>>11589228
There is such a thing as over-saturating the market. Star Wars did it, and so did He-Man. I guess ninja turtles will figure that out. Something's only valuable when it's rare and precious. Overproduction cheapens everything.
>>
>>11589263
Scalpers thinking it'll be worth a fortune in the future will be the main buyers. What that means in reality is you can expect to see it sitting in comic book shops rotting for the next decade.
>>
>>11589271
Good. Better there be lots of TMNT than none.
>>
>>11589263
I’m really not sure, especially at $75.
>but hurr durr that’s what they go for now
I don’t give a fuck, NECA released figures worth $100+ last year around Christmas and they were charging their roughly $35 retail price. And while that was higher than what they originally were at the time for some of the older figures, it was at least justifiable. NECA should not be charging $75 for these vault releases, plain and simple. The whole point is that these are supposed to better priced than current going rates, but they’re basically the same.
>>
>>11589228
>noooooooo stop making toys that make money!!!! Nooooo!!! It's not faaair I don't like that, stooooop!!!!
>>
>>11589280
The flood of competitors all doing turtles doesn't make the retail prices any cheaper when it actually should. So where's the benefit?
>>
>>11589245
>charging scalper prices
Scalping figures for his scalp again?l.
>>
>>11589245
>>11589263
>>11589307
Not to mention they’re dropping them one at a time every hour to get people on shipping fees. Last year they all dropped at the same time each day and you could combine them. Sneaky NECA.
>>
>>11589319
Sneaky nothing. They're fighting off scalpers and bots this way.
>>
>>11589298
>So where's the benefit?
You get any version of TMNT you could ever want. Why are you whining about having so many choices?
>>
>>11589335
>fighting off scalpers by charging scalper prices
???
>>
>>11589335
Scalpers will just sell for even-higher prices.

>>11589340
>Why are you whining about having so many choices?
Because said high prices for everything with too much to choose from all at once.
>>
>>11589335
Was that the IT guy's solution to fighting off bots? Charge the same price as scalpers, and only release one figure per hour so customers can't combine shipping? Almost as good as asking random customers to send a selfie of them holding a photo ID?
>>
>>11589353
You really are a whiny bitch
>>
>>11589353
> Almost as good as asking random customers to send a selfie of them holding a photo ID?

>>
>>11590206
I will never understand why most of toy companies even bother with Foot Soldiers. Especially those with overpriced toys.
Foot Soldier is army builder first and foremost. You need at least two of them but ideally way way more.
It's ok when playmates do them. Their toys are garbage but they are relatively cheap. You can easily build army of various foot for pennies.
I can get neca's with their discount 2- and 4-packs.
Loyal Subjects also made foot 4-pack that one time.
But there are Super7, Joy Toy, LingJihun and now Mezco. Who in his right mind gonna buld army from 60-100$ figures.
Instead of foot soldiers this companies sholud make Elite Guards. At least you need only four of those guys.

The funny part about that is that nobody can find the actual texts where he said it. Ironically, going by the official sources, Kevin made it pretty clear that April was just named after April Fisher, and didn't start looking exactly like her until issues later. But, I guess even Eastman's official statements doesn't fit the black April narrative.

water-based polyurethane. It's cheap as hell, though you tend to have to buy more of it than you are likely to ever need in your life. You will also want to buy a cheap set of henna applicator bottles with needle tips (and keep a safety pin around to unclog the nozzles).
squirt a drop into the joint, wiggle it, let it sit for a half hour, wiggle it some more, maybe an hour, little more wiggling, then let it sit overnight
repeat as many days as necessary (in my experience, 1-3 depending just how loose the joint was)

She's white but she looks black in certain panels because I think either Laird or Eastman (maybe both lmao) had a black gf, so I think most likely they used her as reference to act out a scene, but accidentally made her black when drawing her expression. Also it was the 80s and looking vaguely black was the thing at the time for women.

in the first three issues april looks pretty much white and at least one of the covers backs this up

But even so, it's not the color pattern of a human.. it isn't mostly beige and then a little brown on the head, crotch, and maybe chest. So for a turtle mech to have the yellow in front and then.. yknow.. it just seems like Leo would want his all blue, Raph's all red, etc.

but Heero Yuy's gundam is not Heero-colored. it's heroic white with red and blue accents.
The power rangers are wearing costumes that match their mecha, sure, but that's a COSTUME. it's not colored like their skin and hair and normal clothes. The turtles are wearing belts and pads and masks as their costume, so to me, the mechs should follow that. Presumably, those are their favorite colors.

>>11595732

And Megalon's drills go with Rocksteady's horn.
>>
>>11595737
yeah they do, but Baragon has a more rhino-ish horn. I think either of those works.
>>
You guys are going off visual design more than actual character. Bebop as Gabara works because both are physically strong bullies but not clever, prone to blunders and failure and muscle for hire types with limited effectiveness. Rocksteady as Titanosaurus works because both are kinda tragic and misunderstood. Powerful but not inherently evil, manipulated into violence. Rocksteady isn't really malicious. He follows orders but isn’t cruel by nature. Often used as muscle for smarter villains.

Bebop as Gabara and Rocksteady as Titanosaurus works even better as a contrast. The cowardly bully, gets beat easily, comic foil and the strong but misled, actual threat with a tragic undertone.
>>
>>11595748
what makes you think that about rocksteady?
>>
>>11595763
The not really malicious part? He's just not smart enough for that. His lack of understanding makes him easily manipulated. He doesn’t scheme or harm others out of hate, he follows orders without really questioning them. He has a strong friendship with Bebop in pretty much every version. The Rise, 2012 and IDW versions (I know, I know) show flashes of regret and hesitation. I sincerely think Rocksteady as a character could be a redeemable character. He's not evil by choice. He's just lost and looking for belonging.

It's Bebop that is the truly bad one. Pretty much every version is sadistic, self centered and crueler than Rocksteady. He enjoys the chaos and violence.

Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
>>
>>11595777
I mean, I don't think Bebop would hesitate to double cross Rocksteady if it suited his interests. Rocksteady's not smart enough and too loyal to think about doing that.

Fred wolf was like the one thing Laird didn't properly require wholesale when selling to Viacom. Viacom has since effectively bought the rights, it seems.

I was kinda hoping we might get more and I'm honestly hoping the Dracula Shredder isn't going to be the end of the line, since he is by far the worst figure of the line. He's not different enough from just looking like a normal Shredder to really evoke the image of Dracula.

I don't get these either.

I MIGHT get it for the figures that were actually based on classic costumes that Ben Cooper made back in the 70s. But now they're just doing all these licenses that never had costumes . They are selling nostalgia for something you technically can't have nostaliga for.
>>
>>11596075
Because it's a kid's toy from the 80s. Remeber the character costumes with the mask and the logo on the shirt? It's how 80's just does it. Joy Toy is nostalgia baiting with modern updates for their TMNT line.
>>
>>11596089
>They are selling nostalgia for something you technically can't have nostaliga for.
It's a truly bizzare thing to think about.
>>
>>11596003
Good good. However...
I will gladly buy all of this Joy Toy shit but only when they do Karai, Ninjara, Alopex, Venus and Mona. This line in dire needs of cute females but they continue to print out boring cartoonish mutants instead.
Nobody gives any shits about Grounchuck, Dirtbag, Rahzar and Tokka. Literally nobody.
Also there's still no Baxter yet, be it human/cyborg of fly form, but now they make Roadkill Rodneys. Seems weird priorities to me.
>>
>>11596100
Speak for yourself, I’ll gladly take more mutants. You sound like you’re uneducated when making your opinion seem like an irrefutable fact. Saying “no one wants these” is absolutely wrong. That said, i doubt they’ll do characters from the IDW series any time soon, but we’ll see.
>>
>>11596094
This isn't as weird as it sounds. A lot of fans inherit nostalgia through parents, older siblings or just pop culture in general. Stranger Things and Skeleton Crew and stuff like that. People romanticize eras they missed. It's not about personal memory, it’s about shared identity. It’s nostalgia as a product, not a memory. You're not buying a memory, you're buying a feeling that mimics a memory. And in capitalism that’s just good business.
>>
>>11596110
>It’s nostalgia as a product, not a memory.
Yeah that's the part that is bizarre to me. That we've come so far into turning anything and everything into a commodity that we now sell the CONCEPT of nostalgia. It's a weird thing to think about.
>>
>>11596089
>They are selling nostalgia for something you technically can't have nostaliga for.
>>11596110
>You're not buying a memory, you're buying a feeling that mimics a memory
Nostalgia for an age that never existed. Jello was right, even if I think he's an establishment shill these days.
https://youtu.be/wx5XS6uXP-g
>>
>>11596112
It works because nostalgia as a concept taps into comfort and safety. Like, people who never owned an NES still feel something when they see pixel art. Why? Because it’s been framed culturally as meaningful. Passed down as if it’s something we should care about. The “vibe” of the past becomes more important than the truth of it. Late stage capitalism doesn't stop at material goods. It monetizes feelings and identities. Companies once sold you toys to make new memories. Now they sell you new versions of old toys to make fake old memories. We’re not remembering. We’re being taught what to miss.
>>

"Meaning" itself is dying. It's fragile and constructed. You think you're asking "what does this mean?" but you're really asking "why does this hurt? Why do I care? Am I alone in feeling this way?" Meaning is manufactured.

Casey is like a head taller than the turtles in this line, the scale seems perfectly fine? The interior looks snug but the detailing looks so nice I'd probably display the van with open doors anyway.

Can you imagine the audacity of trying to charge $28 for pinned 5" figures?
>>
>>11596334
McFarty probably thinks that IDW turtles are more popular ones around here and will sell regardless of quality. Ironically even LoyalSubjects are better than his toys.
>>
>>11595808
okay so there was a period where they didn't own all the fred wolf stuff, but now they either do or they practically do

but in this case, it's a promo image that is missing MOVIE raph, so
>>
>>11596008
these turtles are proportioned like they're 7 feet tall. If they are actually usual turtle height, they will look microcephalic next to casey and shredder, so
>>11596010
shit, those aren't bad. not quite the same feel as the originals, but...
>>
>>11596112
Anemoia is powerful stuff. we're beginning to realize the modern day genuinely does objectively suck and the past was better. so you look up older shit, and you instantly feel good even if it's something you didnt grow up with.

I was wondering if I had imagined that weird Krang. I think he's cool, but I have no idea how he fits into the universal monsters series of turtles. Whatever.
>>
>>11596334
The general public doesn't give a crap about whether it's pinned or not.
>>

Damn son I ain't even touching the mirage line but I'll pull the trigger on that. Flat shipping to Canada right now, too.
>>
>>11596393
especially since, last time i checked, this was specifically the henson movie designs crossed over with universal.
>>11596405
isnt everything pinned?
>>
>>11596488
Jesus, that's such a good figure. I'm really surprised it's shelfwarming.
>>
>>11596514
Could just be they overstocked it. BBTS jumped on a lot of turtle stuff HARD around that time.
>>
>>11596518
yeah that's true.
i really kinda want it, but i have no other toon figures. and also no money.
>>
>>11596100
Imagine being a gooner for Ninja turtle characters lol, bring on the mutants baby
>>
>>11596625
i want cute girl characters too, but I have zero shits to give for venus, ninjara, or alopex. I mean alopex would be welcome in another franchise, if they fixed her leg anatomy, but not TMNT.
then again I am very much a Lairdian and prefer fewer mutants overall. Not... not just six, that's insane, but ideally not more than ten. and maybe have excuses for other characters who really need to appear, like Al'Falqa
>>
>>11596003
Excited for this, price seems reasonable too.
>>
Is the Super 7 Ultimates line for the vintage figures done? I keep hearing mixed things and the company doesn't seem to have made a statement either way.
>>
>>11596720
i'm sure they're holding out for that last-minute hail-mary "you know what, we miss getting the profits from you, go ahead" call from viacom
but it's probably fucked. I was all set to start making my own customs, but then I got sleepy and poor, so I don't see that happening
>>
>>11596722
I guess I don't understand the politics of it.

What is stopping Viacom from just letting Super7 print them money? Is it Playmates? And, if so, why did Viacom give them so much power?
>>
>>11596723
Basically yeah, Playmates thinks the Super7 deal to use their old designs wasn't paying enough vs what Playmates perceives as cutting into their own sales, so they refused to let Super7 continue to use the designs. As far as I know those designs are Playmates IP instead of Viacom directly since Playmates created them long before the general franchise IP got shopped around, so they're stuck defending their decision even if it's stupid.
>>
>>11596720
Vintage is dead, yes. And honestly so is 2k3. For various reasons, but the biggest hint is how little they're even advertising TMNT now.
>>
So Neca's finally doing 2012 Nick Turtles. No word on Next Mutation or Turtles III or any cool ones like Tortugas?
>>
>>11596730
i have heard, without any proof obviously because how the fuck would you, that Viacom owns the designs
but that Playmates can still force their hand because they have the master license, so they can like.... refuse... to work for Viacom? I guess? now that I say that out loud, that doesn't make sense. They have zero bargaining power.
>>
>>11596732
what does Tortugas Ninjas have specific to it? like, spanish coloring books?
>>
>>11596730
>As far as I know those designs are Playmates IP instead of Viacom directly
I don't think so, or we would have seen the Super7 line killed a lot earlier rather than it continuing but with a bunch of concessions such as "as long as the character appeared on other merch" or "must include different accessories". The fact that Super7 were allowed those loopholes tells me that Playmates don't actually own the designs. It never sounded like a legal cease and desist, but rather Playmates complaining to Paramount about Super7, and since Playmates is the master license holder, they held a lot of sway and Paramount had to keep them happy or Playmates could have sued for breach of contract for allowing a product that they perceived as directly competing with their toyline. It's also why they started pumping out vintage reissues, and when Super7 switched to 2k3 figures they reissued the 2k3 figures as well so they could argue Super7 were competing with them with those.
The fact is we will probably never know the full truth because of NDAs.

could playmates really have sued successfully?
they're not even american. we don't really recognize or give two shits about other countries' legal claims.
>>11596752
no way, seriously? were those licensed?
>>
>>11596753
Yep. From my understanding, they directly translated archie comics, but then started their own stuff.
>>
>>11596753
>could playmates really have sued successfully
The contracts are American contacts, so they definitely could have sued. Successfully? Doubtful, but even if they weren't going to be successful, it would have created a lot of headaches within Paramount and probably would have cost more in legal fees tham what Super7 was giving them. No matter what, it would have looked bad for Paramount that they weren't keeping their master license holder happy. It could have potentially devalued any future master licenses up for grabs.
>>
>>11596755
i think they should have cut them free. playmates fucking sucks donkey ass.
>>
>>11596757
Playmates probably makes them a shitload of money considering how many manufacturing corners they cut. Playmates shits out endless $2 efforts for $20 a pop and Viacom gets a nice slice of each one, and they're both happy with their lot.
>>
>>11596763
yeah.. yeah I guess
but viacom should have been able to point this out to them. just fuckin get a translator to get the following into chinese: We appreciate the cheap garbage you make. You are not in any way in competition with people trying to sell 30 dollar figures for 55 dollars. Nobody in America is that fucking stupid to confuse the two. Also their stuff isn't even on store shelves. Now get back to work and dont whine at us again.

What do you guys think of Body Count Casey Jones by Mezco?
I like the accesories which it has more of, and prefer many of them, the beat up casey head, the hoodie over the stupid jean jacket they gave the original figure. As much as I love the figure and the new accesories, their figures are just way too expensive to doubledip which sucks ass.
>>11591190
Why are they doing a 1987 cartoon foot soldier? You'd think they'd do one Mirage style to go with their Mirage Shredder. I know they released some bad looking 1987 turtles but kinda weird they're not doing a 1987 Shredder first.
>>11590713
>I’m not a huge fan of Mezco’s other stuff, but their turtles are widely considered to be some of the best TMNT figures ever made
I love Mezco's TMNT I do think they're the best turtles ever made., Casey I had issues with the lack of accesories and some of the clothing they chose which Bodycount Casey fixes but I'm not buying him again. Shredder looks lacking so far. But yeah as much as I like their turtles I don't know what the fuck they're doing.
I just want an April and a Splinter but knowing them it seems the licensor is forcing any April not based on the original cartoon to be Black >>11591052 going forward. so that'll ruin April for me and I don't want a 1987 cartoon Mezco April either.
