That’s not how an F-15’s wings should look.
I’m now convinced the Takara designers are getting senile. Between Soundwave’s gun tip being the wrong way and now the Seekers wings, they’re introducing problems that haven’t existed in 40 years of making these characters. And these are supposed to be the most accurate ones.

He was clearly intended to have F-15 accurate wings, going by the model sheet, but the animators just drew them straight, I suppose for simplicities sake.

>That's Hasbro's plan. Make you buy the same G1 tooner shit perpetually by arbitrarily changing things.

Yes. The way they handled bumblebee was proof of that

Walmart Netflix release - slightly off mustard yellow
Goldbug in 4 pack - ok, but not the og
Ss86 - weird combination of when his car form looks weird in the old cartoon.
Retro card - finally a normal Volkswagen and the right yellow.

So it took them 4 or 5 years to put out the one people really wanted.

Hasbro is the king of remolds, recolors, etc and milking fans. They've given up all hope of just nailing something the first time. They do planned obsolescence in toy form

He looks ok but my main gripe with the new one is the proportions
like the torso just looks stocky and the waist is too wide. He even lost a set of abs and just has a 4-pack now
Would have been nice to get the translucent chest too, but I'm just gonna wait for the Takara repaint/ remold thing they did like with Lio Convoy.

Some hearsay from Aaron Archer's panel
Energon Optimus' Trailer was apparently heavily cost reduced and used to have a feature where you would have a circular hinge/handle in the middle, twist it - which would make a "cross" shape out of the trailer and contents. Each further "twist" would then proceed to launch each component individually out of each tube made from the cross

The way they spoke about it, it sounded like it was pretty grandiose, but due to some oil stuff they had to super scale it back

I don't think that's a contrarian opinion, though. It's a clunky as fuck shellformer and always was, and short of starting from scratch there's no other way to approach the design. It's Beast Wars at its worst.
>>
>>11606151
ML Bumblebee is acceptable at best, especially for the absurd cost.
>>
>>11606347
>at its worst
sadly, this is among the best of the japanese-original designs. they somehow really lost their minds. did anyone really want a dinosaur to turn into a flower? or a horse to have rooted hair?
>>
>>11606363
>Despite the Japanese Beast Wars media being aimed at the lower single-digits ages, these toys were notoriously complicated for that age group, with even grown adults finding the transformations utterly frustrating, as they require multiple panels on ball-jointed struts to be positioned precisely right for the beast mode to lock into place. On top of that, several of the toys are infamous for being "shellformers"—Break, in particular, could have all of his beast-mode panels/parts removed and still leave a fully functional robot mode behind! Hisashi Yuki cites the fact that no one red-flagged the complexity of Tripredacus and Magnaboss as giving the design team the (unfortunately false) impression that kids were ready for that level of difficulty, and the reliance on beast mode "shells" was an effort to completely conceal the robotic nature of the figures with an animal mode that could be convincing from any angle.
>>
>>11606347
It's just most of the people saying the old one is better are basing it on looks alone and not actually having handled the thing, so they don't know it's a piece of shit that just looks cool
>>
>>11606368
yeah that's the thing
they went way sillier, and yet, way more complicated? granted, japanese kids have way more manual dexterity I assume, but
now that you point it out, the shells probably were overcorrection for perceived flaws in the standard beast modes up to this point, usually exposing too much robot.
>>
>>11606117
forcing ankle tilts into every toy has been a thing since siege. While I don't disagree with it in theory, the results are often ankles that are oddly-placed or oddly-limited. A weird ankle is better than no ankle, I guess?

I like that the kibble compacts better, but almost everything else is terrible. The shoulders are completely wrong, the tusks point backwards and curve towards his center rather than pointing outward and curving forward. Plus the missile pods are all shaped wrong. Tiny tonfas and anchor weapons. A wide butt flap which messes up the Big Cannon's look since it hangs off the front. And he's missing a bunch of paint, but that's typical of Hasbro. Even adding in the missing paint, his tusks being completely fucked up kills any benefit this figure has.
>>
>>11606419
Yes. And the tonfas were about twice as long on the old figure.
>>
>>11606422
wow... okay I thought you were just being a cunt, but those are TINY anchors. like... insane. like the person that decided this should be committed. though whoever approved that trunk in the first place could not have been able to tie his own shoes.
>tonfas used to be twice as long
twice nothin is still nothin. they're ridicks. A tonfa needs to stick out about the length of your forearm to read as a tonfa.
>>
>>11605940
I feel like it's going to stay looking bad until someone who knows how to play with toys gets a hold of one and poses the shell bits more flatteringly
>>
>>11606418
The tusks rotate on a 5mm post. That doesn't change the angle of the tusks when the mammoth head halves that the tusks connect to are facing the wrong direction, which minimizes the profile he should have. Less wide, badass mammoth warrior, more dinky kibble like so many other things the shrank on this figure.

I have the Encore. I wanted the new version because I wanted it to deal with the kibble in a better way and it does, but everything else suffers. Big Convoy needed a Commander budget but he was never going to get it unfortunately because they don't make toys with the kind of gimmicks that Big Convoy would benefit from, so all his accessories shrank and his silhouette suffered.

How does telling someone to buy the original fix the obvious flaws this new version has?

There's too much faggety back and forth to really respond to it all, but

Walmart Bumblebee is good for realismfags, SS86 is good for cartoon fags. They didn't do the details of the Penny Racer Beetle alt mode right on the SS86 but it's still better if you want a cartoon Bumblebee. If you want a real world accurate Bumblebee, the Walmart Retro hits that spot.

Personally, I have the SS86 for Bumblebee and the Retro one for the yellow Cliffjumper. Yeah, I know "yellow Cliffjumper" is a porsche and the swapped Bumblebee is a red beetle but I haven't decided on painting up the Beetle mold in red just yet. Maybe one day, then I'll get the Worlds Collide Bumblebee for the yellow Cliffjumper head.

>>
>>11606663
anon I want to like you, because the partial-transmetal thing is something I've always believed about him, but
they didn't change quickstrike at all.
and this is not a more realistic mammoth than the old one. not by 900 yards.. it's masasssssively less realistic. So be happy, fool.

the only argument you could possibly make is that the ground clearance is better (his belly doesn't hang down to his feet anymore, because the anchor launchers were made smaller) but those things were oversized before. apparently the anchors are minuscule now, so I'm not sure what most of the size of the launchers is even for, but...
>>
>>11605940
would it have kicked a puppy if they just gave the mammoth mode a furry chest cover, that, for transformation, splits and folds into the hollows of the visibly-hollow mammoth shoulders?
>>
Pick two:

1: prices return to potp levels (post WFC engineering retained though)

2: transformers gets a pg-13 movie that's universally beloved and Oscar winning (for writing, not just vfx)

3: Transformers gets a Emmy award winning TV show with an ensemble cast, four seasons and a movie length special

4: Actual real life transforming alien robots come down from space and blow up Chicago
>>
>>11606698
4 and 4, because this IP is factually dying with declining interest
>>
>>11606698
why would anyone pick 2 over 3?
also chicago is destroyed already. That's a hat on a hat.
>>
>>11606698
Transformers story are losing it's creativity.
It's all been same retelling story of robots on Earth with Bumblebee and Optimus as main lead robots. Or entirely takes place in Cybertron.
>>
>>11606715
there's a lot of untapped potential in the franchise and love it or hate it the comics are making up for some of that

the 2025 Energon Universe special's Jazz story was amazing, and I'd love to see something like that adapted into movie form.

Or literally any other type of story moulded to fit transformers. A combaticon sitcom. A dinobot musical. Prowl/Bluestreak buddy cop movie.

Superman 2025 proved that audiences can like movies that throw them into the thick of a universe without spending a lot of time on the origin story.
>>
>>11606715
we need another beast wars
a brand new idea that's never been done, things robots have never turned into, a legit reason for them to be, good writing, creativity, genuine plots, and toys that pick a style and run with it.
>>
>>11606715
>>11606727
I've said it before
Hasbro needs to put it's whole ass into new toy line project
Merge Generations and Studio Series, they're most of the way there anyway
And the put out a fully featured line; deluxes, voyagers, leaders, and whatever else, of toys from a new cartoon
No more third string gimmick shit for the currently airing media
>>
>>11606727
I don't even think we need to change up the alt modes from cars and jets and tanks. I think there just needs to be some actual unique idea for the story and that idea needs to be executed well. People are tired of the franchise because it's the same shit every time. Cybertron origin story. Earth based macguffin plot. Ensemble TV show. Bumblebee movie was good because it was a unique idea; a character spotlight movie that was good on it's own terms
>>
>>11606732
Then again, it doesn't matter
they could pull a late 80s Nickelodeon and go "hey let's become a huge success by doing the opposite of what everybody is doing"
but they'd still eventually become a late 90s nickelodeon that is all about taking zero risks again. There's no hope. Nothing is gonna be good. It would be significantly less frustrating if none of it ever happened, and the frustration is rapidly destroying any lingering happiness from the good times.
>>11606733
there's only so many reasons you can have robots turning into cars and trucks. they have to be visitors on earth, in disguise. That basically hijacks the plot. That's why Beast Wars was better.
>>
>>11606721
Would like to see a more drastic different take like Beast Wars did.
Masterforce is also very creative to have human that transform to robot like Power Rangers.

I have an idea that is inspired by Digimon anime. Main human casts gets trapped in Cybertron they form bond with the robots that can give them power-up forms.
>>
>>11606736
I'm just saying
Look at cartoons like RiD2015 or Cyberverse, the storytelling is shaken up in both shows, but why are they so maligned here specifically?
Shit toys.
>>
>>11606736
yes, they have to be visitors on earth, robots in disguise. But when's the last time 'robots in disguise' was taken seriously, though? A slow-burn drama thriller about, say, Prowl investigating potential decepticon activity only to unwittingly have to team up with an FBI agent investigating the same case would be an interesting take on robots in disguise.
>>
>>11606741
rid2015's show sucks ass, balls, cock, and taint all at the same time

but cyberverse post season 1 was actually good (and for what it's worth a lot of the cyberverse non-gimmick toys were actually really good, a lot of the deluxes were comparable to the war for Cybertron trilogy stuff, prowl was essentially the same transformation for instance.)
>>
>>11606741
rid2015 sucked so hard, it made everybody except bumblebee so pathetic
>>
>>11606741
the storytelling is shaken up
in those two shows?
i find that hard to believe. they are the definition of zero-budget zero-care
>>11606744
Ohhhh. you're saying don't reinvent and don't raise it higher and higher, but go _lower?_ transformers who operate on a small scale? solve individual crimes? That's.... that has potential. My only real criticism is that it's a concept that would be served better with almost anything else other than transforming cars.
>>
>>11606752
>My only real criticism is that it's a concept that would be served better with almost anything else other than transforming cars.
If the likes of superman can do grounded stuff every once in a while why not TFs? not every problem has to revolve around the decepticons or quintessons
>>
>>11606746
>>11606749
You wouldn't have gone for a voyager Strongarm or Thunderhoof if it had existed?

>>11606752
>the storytelling is shaken up
The first season is about Bumblebee leading a group of essentially four new characters to track down a prison ship's worth of escaped convicts
Not red vs purple, not competing for resources, or racing for macguffins
>>
>>11606737
I have another idea which it takes place in Medieval times.
All TFs have mythical beast alt mode like dragon, wyvern, phoenix, unicorn, griffin, ...etc.
Fortress Maximus transform into a Castle.

The plot goes something like this:
TFs awakened by a spell cast by some wizard organization (yes, magic is real in this world).
Each nations now gain ultimate weapon (TFs) as ally. It basically a medieval war story with TF involved.
>>
>>11606752
1: cyberverse did have a good amount of love and care put into it, and it really shows in the third season. A really funny fact about cyberverse is I'm 99% sure it has the highest named character kill count in transformers show history, with so many characters just straight up dying on-screen.

2: The plots wouldn't be as awesome with any other things than transforming robots, though. But I mostly think that these 'smaller scale' plots could be used to flesh out the characters more. A tightly knit cast creates tightly knit dialogue and interactions, and it also means less budget needs to be dedicated to the transformer designs and animation, which means you can focus more on spending that cash on good writers.

>>11606753
this guy gets it

>>11606754
if it existed I would totally have gone for those, because while the plot was dog shit, the one thing I have to give to rid2015 is it has some amazing decepticon designs. Strongarm is also cool, a very rare bulky fembot body type.
>>
>>11606754
>You wouldn't have gone for a voyager Strongarm or Thunderhoof if it had existed?
You just put out the redeeming qualities of rid2015

What you need to do is give Japan the reigns to a Transformers show again, be it Toei or Trigger or whoever the fuck Hasbro chooses. (If they do decide on a CG show at least give it to Studio Orange)
>Completely new setting
>Keep Optimus and Megatron around because they're Optimus and Megatron, the rest of the cast is reimagined old characters or completely new characters
>Set the show in Japan, but don't make things too japanesey
>Maybe make some sort of gimmick attached to the line, maybe something like Shinkalion's current gimmick of support vehicles that become weapons/armor for the mechs

Simple as.
>>
>>11606761

We could have lived in a world where deluxe RiD Windblade was the good Windblade toy instead the Titans Return one
And most people have to settle for T30 or Legacy

Optimus needs power-ups and combinations galore. He preferably shouldn't be the only combiner, but his combinations should be a point of spectacle.

>>

>AOTP Brawl over CW
Brawl is understandable since CW Bruticus is mostly made from repurposed molds from other Combiners (Onslaught from Hotspot, Swindle from Hound, Blastoff from Slingshot, Vortex from Alpha Bravo).
>this seeker over ER
With these price increases I don't see people willingly going to replace their entire Seeker lineups at $42 a pop. Before them maybe, but I doubt people are going to drop over $250 on six dudes they already own, let alone the weird-ass repaints like G2 Ramjet or Sunstorm that you know they'll milk from the mold.

In the case of Brawl, he's an original mold that Hasbro flubbed probably because of low budget. We know from Funpub and other sources that Brawl not Swindle (who was probably a Offroad/First Aid removle) was originally a Rook remold. They apparently even had a Brawl head for him that was going to be used for the technobots who were planned as part of the mainline and not a boxset. It probably would have been better if they stuck to the original plan, but your mileage may vary.

These are the SMP line, they are model kit focus on high on-screen accuracy, articulations and gimmicks.

Hiryu and Goryu are some of the robot model borrowed from Transformers to the Brave series. They are Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber originated in TF Zone.

I believe both of these are somewhere around $100. These have been released quite a while, I think Goryu (Dai Atlas) are still on the market, but Hiryu (Sonic Bomber) you have to find it on aftermarket it has been some years.

Pretty much. It's like how Fans Toys Stunticon Breakdown's alt mode was the same size as Takara Sideswipe/Red Alert but the bot mode towered over them due to how they transformed differently.

The designers don't set out to go "hmm we wanna make X character, let's turn them into a shitty retool for no reason!", they go
>"Hm, our job demands that we put out a certain amount of figures per year but we don't have much tooling budget. Ehh, if we squint at this mold we might be able to BS another character out of it... should be good enough for kids who dont know the character, and tide over fans until we dedicate a proper full mold to that character somewhen in the future."
>>
>>11607624
Or alternatively they go
>"Hey, these two characters look similar/shared similar engineering/were the same exact mold, we should pretool an alternate head and/or plastic color layout for this future figure"
>>
>>11607635
i gotta say, pretooling is the one good thing they've innovated. Yeah it used to exist in some forms, sometimes, but now it's like habit and it's always pragmatic.
>>
>>11607651
I don't think it's wise to say pretooling is always pragmatic when trashheap was pretooled with an alternate head as animated wreck gar this year
>>
>>11607652
not saying every single retool is good, but it's always better than the alternative
>>
>>11607574
This was during Prime, so it was probably done due to the name synergy that started with the movies. At least they acknowledge the change in universe, his name changing after BWN.
>>

>>
>>11607699

I wonder if Energon Optimus Prime counts as a combiner....
>>
>>11607746
Wouldn't a frameslop Energon OP that can't scramble be the ultimate monkey paw?
>>
>>11607748
You call every combiner frameslop.
>>
>>11607749
Difference is I don't stop at combiners. Like you, you're a flesh-on-skeleton frameslop.
>>
>>11607748
And how would they turn Energon Optimus into a frame combiner? His trailer is literally just a rhombus storage container. Optimus himself transforms just be folding out his arms and legs, way more simplistic than even G1 Optimus and he never transforms when he goes into Super Mode. The drones just slap on over his limbs and that's it. If anything making him a frame combiner would be overkill and actually push him into Titan Class and I doubt they'd make him a Titan Class because you know, he's from Energon.
>>
>>11607755
People were saying Superion wouldn't and couldn't be made into a frame combiner either back then
>>
>>11607760
Think this rationally anon, Optimus unlike Superion is the complete package. He comes with his trailer and his 4 drones. If a new Energon Optimus Prime toy would be made in Commander Class there would be no room for a frame of any sort. A Voyager-Leader sized Optimus, FOUR drones that are roughly as big as a modern deluxe toy and a big trailer made just to contain those 4 drones. Making Optimus into a frame combiner would be unfeasible and out of budget at Commander and very unnecessary and low priority as a Titan because he's an Optimus that came from the Energon anime. It's 20th birthday and all we got was a Core Class Energon Megatron, there's no way Energon Optimus is that high on the totem pole for Titan Class.
Also, Superion had to transform into a torso with a new head which the new version cheats using a Frame. Optimus quite literally assumes the A-Pose and lets the drones slot onto his arms and legs and a mask flips over his head. Two very different things. Why go through the effort of giving Optimus a frame when he himself IS the frame just like the original toy?
>>
So is Nexus being sold as a complete combiner or more likely we're gonna have to purchase each bot individually as that would be more expensive.

yeah i think the reason why they still use Leo Prime for Lio Convoy is cause they've already been calling him Leo Prime in the west since 2007 whereas Big Convoy has only ever been called Big Convoy worldwide since 1999, its worth bringing up he's never had a new original mold, only repaints of his original toy. Plus Big Prime or whatever sounds buttfuck retarded. if Hasbro can trademark it they'll keep the japanese name intact now, its why Hellbat was the only Breastforce member to get a name change on the HasLab Liokaiser release cause DC has a trademark for Hellbat.
