Given how they're on sale on Amazon right now, should I bite the bullet and get all four of the S7 2K3 turtles?

I've seen people get them for as low as $27, which is a much better price with how little you get with them. So, yes, if you can get them cheap, they're worth that at least.

Any chances of NECA doing Red Sky stuff? I'm getting S7's 2K3 stuff tomorrow and I'll get into NECA's 2K12 once we get versions who's alternate heads don't suck so I may as well balance with the 1987 versions but I want ones who won't cause some sort of "lol the 1987 show was silly and the turtles were complete goofballs who wouldn't shut up are we right?" shit.

They are in my opinion the best Super 7 figures yet, when it comes to articulation and feel.
40 dollars each still seems a little high if you don't specifically have affinity for those versions though.
>>
>>11613556
>>11613558

>>
>>11613584
oh you just wanna keep your serious and gritty figures separate. that's fair. shelf organization is important.
>>11613579
if they were a head or two taller than the regular S7 turtles, so I could do my own Turtles Forever, and if they were more playmatesy (veins etc) then I could be talked into it, but I don't like what they did with the sculpts, and they are the same height (thus thinner and visibly out of scale) with the normal turtles. I fear the same will be true of Shredder, the one I was considering.

oh and they should start by hewing closer to the toys, which were NOT too shabby.

>>11613933
I think people are just resistant to the idea of a fifth turtle in general
Even Slash only gets a pass because he's never depicted as having some innate connection to the main turtles, most of the time he's either specifically created by an outside party to be their enemy, or his origin has nothing to do with them and their resemblance is basically coincidental. Some versions go out of their way to make Slash look nothing like them. Either way he's never depicted as being some long-list evil brother of theirs.
>>
>>11613943
in general and in specific, for sure.
>>11613933
it makes sense for the sewer to have some other animals (after all, Splinter was there already), but not so much another random baby turtle that we have to shoehorn in as a dumb retcon.

still, I think as a specifically just-for-fun thing, you could make it work. Give it the Lower Decks treatment where it enhances what worked but riffs on what didn't. but.. not the designs. make the art like the toys.
give us a proper Dragon Lord and some minions that look like they had a budget. give us a Bonesteel who actually looks like he could be a rival for Casey Jones.

Style doesn't match the MM figures, but scales the same as 2012. MOTUxTMNT figures look good with it as long as the character is meant to be beefy in comparison.

Looks close to BST AXN scale. It beats out the BST AXN version of IDW Shredder in terms of sculpt and paint. The bicep swivel is cut in such a way that the sculpt doesn't get messed up like the BST AXN and even though the knee is limited with only a single swivel-hinge, it also doesn't break up the sculpt the way BST AXN's double knee does.
>>
>>11615075
Hmm, now I'm wondering if the foot ninjas will scale well with the BST AXN IDW figures that I already have. The biggest holes in my collection are that they never got around to the foot ninjas, Splinter, April and Casey, and I was looking forward to getting four foot ninjas as army builders before the line got canceled. If they're the same height as Shredder due to McFarlane's lulzy scaling I might pick up four (I already have the BST AXN Shredder and he's the same height as a classified series GI Joe).
>>
Is it true S7's 2K3 figures are made from some sort of plastic that deteriorates over time?
>>
>>11615072
Not bad, honestly. Thanks for posting this.
>>
>>11615072
That looks like crap. Doesn't work with them at all.
>>
>>11615195
They're covered in a very thin, squishy rubber overlay that damages and dries out pretty fast, yes.
>>
Would using a hair-dryer or shock oil to loose the S7 2K3 figures be a good idea?
>>
>>11615217
Probably couldn't hurt, but generally the only joints I see freezing up on S7 have been knees. Usually a few firm but slow bends tens to free them up forever.
>>
>>11615240
What about their straps getting weakened?
And how could I avoid putting to much pressure into them? I heard applying too much pressure causes them to possibly break.
>>
>>11615245
Their weapon belts? I haven't seen any reason why you could cause those to get strained, they already seem appropriately sized both with and without the weapons in them.
>>
>>11615247
I meant their elbow and knee pads.
Also I meant the joints snapping due to pressure.
>>
>>11615252
>I meant their elbow and knee pads.
Ah, yeah they seem fine. They don't look particularly stressed, and move without too much force so I wouldn't be worried about them.
With pressure, it's always better to be conservative. You shouldn't have to force anything, just start out easy and very slowly increase it. Heat makes it less risky on bigger joints if you're impatient or if it feels REALLY stuck but I've only ever needed heat on a super 7 knee like, once. I did have to grease up Metalheads thigh rotation with some silicon lube but he was an absolute freak of QC failures.

Its nice that the rereleased Scrag, but locking him in with something that frequently sells for less than it's RRP on eBay is a bit shit. If they want us to buy shit they've already sold to us, could they at least pick things that people don't mind having duplicates of? I'd feel at lot less dirty if he came with some Foot Soldiers instead of meme figures that only came out a year ago.
>>
>>11615972
That wouldn't make any sense to come with foot soldiers.
>>
>>11615975
That would be perfect then, because it doesn't make sense for NECA to pack him in with something that sells for less than RRP and only came out a year ago. Doing things that don't make sense seems to be the current NECA business model. Does it make any sense for Casey Jones to be packed in with John Connor's minibke? Fuck no. Didn't stop NECA from doing it though.
>>
>>11615981
You can keep whining about "sells less than RRR" whatever the fuck, but it does make sense to pack them together like this. At least it's a proper theme.

No, it's your brand war bullshit. The only reason you are defending such a shitty half-baked product is because of the company that made it. I can be critical of Brian fucking up the hips of the Ultimates and Randy pulling cheap shit like the Casey with minibike because I don't have any loyalty to any company. I can criticize just about every company that has made TMNT figures for their shortcomings, from Playmates being cheap fucks with their paint apps to Mezco's ugly half-assed Toon Turtles. I don't worship one company and consider them beyond criticism, nor do I hold a grudge against any single company.
But only one company will have some retarded nutjob defending it from criticism every single time.

Considering the humans looked that way proportionately to the turtles in the 2012 toyline and animated series anyway, I think that argument is invalid. Most of Shredder's bulk in 2012 was his bladed armor pieces and his gigantic The Maxx style boots.

I think it's because people don't DO much for thanksgiving anymore. nobody makes hand turkeys, nobody makes a centerpiece, maybe some wood davers made out of pimecones... they just go to house, eat, watch football. so there's just not products to promote or get hype about, beyond food.
that said, I will absolutely get that thanksgiving lovers digiorno pizza if I see it.

these are kinda both too bulky and too scrawny in some areas.. it doesn't really accomplish anything well to my mind. They really should have done playmates-styled 2k3 characters. Chunky, bulky, veiny, and in scale with the others so far
>>
>>11621127
>They really should have done playmates-styled 2k3 characters.
Yeah, because they were getting along so fucking well with Playmates.
>>
>>11621147
playmates does not own playmates-styled figures.
nothing they did in the 2k3 line is specifically theirs, except maybe the goofy modified turtles like the ones with football gear made of junk or... the ones with like random war paint on em
>>
>>11621323
>playmates does not own playmates-styled figures.
>nothing they did in the 2k3 line is specifically theirs
Sure, but the fact that they never actually sued S7 for any trademark violation regarding the vintage line and that S7 initially had workarounds like "appeared on other merch" to get figures made tells me that Playmates don't exactly own anything from the vintage line either. They were just kicking up a stink with Nickelodeon execs about S7 impeding on their master license. So take a guess as to what would have happened if S7 had made Playmates styled figures.
>>
>>11621358
yeah but i meant- when I said own, I meant yknow, shorthand for this whole situation where they can raise a stink

they really cannot raise a stink if someone happens to make something bulgy and veiny, with fun, creative accessories. I flat-out refuse to accept that, if they had tried that, there would have been pushback. Again especially since the 2k3 line really wasn't playmates styled (from the neck down, they were built as toys for the ungreenlit WB TMNT show from... 2000ish? hence the proportions)
>>
>>11621420
>they really cannot raise a stink if someone happens to make something bulgy and veiny
As the master license holder, they can kick up a stink about whatever they want. They kicked up a stink about NECA for years despite NECA's releases not even being close to anything they put out. I bet the reason those Chinese Lingjihun Turtles were pulled from BBTS was because they had a sook.

The art looks cool, but the figures look like a school art project that got a B. And I'd say the B was really generous. Whoever sculpted them needs more practice before they decide to charge people $200 for shit like this.
>>
>>11622945
Iunno that looks like a deserved B to me.
The proportions are changed a bit to be more Playmates-like, but it fixed an error in the original where one bracer has concave squares instead of convex ones. unfortunately it also fixed what wasn't broken in the rotary saw weapon, so now- wait, the teeth trail away from the direction of rotation, right?
>>
>>11622961
>Iunno that looks like a deserved B
You can see Rocksteady's open eye in the concept sketch, and they've interpreted it as some weird squint. Also the scutes on Bebop's armor are completely disproportionate to the drawing.
>where one bracer has concave squares instead of convex ones
I never interpreted it like that, but I can see it now. I have a postcard someone sent me of Triton's fountain in Malta that seems to have an optical illusion where it does a weird inversion like that.
>it also fixed what wasn't broken in the rotary saw weapon
Yeah.
Like I said, a B was generous.
>>
>>11623009
are you sure we're not the ones interpreting it as a squint? it's really hard to tell from this angle.
>bigger scutes
good point, but I think that's like how they have big hands and feet. it's playmates chunkification. Not to my liking, and one of the things that got me out of liking TMNT in the mid-90s, but still. I don't think they were aiming to hit the originals flawlessly, and missed.

I thought about that. I've circled what could be interpreted as the pupil on the figures and the eyes that I can see in the concept drawing. The issue is that what could be eyes on the figure are in a completely different spot to the drawing, and still look nothing like the artwork.

Nah, 2012 had a decent mix. Only downside is too much Mikey. Like, holy shit, not only can his VA do one voice (one octave different from Beast Boy), but he gets too many attempts to be funny.
>>
>>11624341
There was also the problem of making Mikey just straight up retarded. it doesn't work. why would teenagers raised in ninjutsu for so many years have one who's an idiot?

in their PROPER personalities, mike is quite possibly the brightest one. The artist, the guy who sees things differently from others and pieces solutions together. The guy who's so fucking bored because his brain is so active, that he can't stand anything dull like practicing, or dull serious speeches, and has to goof off and crack wise to give his brain some more dopamine to keep going. I guess I shouldn't be surprised no adaptation gets this, but if they need help, and I've said it before, think Egoraptor.

surely the idea is 'hey while we're in a comic about mutations, we'll see a new one appear who's kind of like the turtles (generic rounded face and humanoid body) but kinda like the street sharks (a fish)'
like in Turtles Forever when the serious 2003 shredder used the insanely powerful toonforce-tier energy of the 1987 mutagen to deliberately make a bunch of monsters

Apart from Biker Mice, none of these other franchises has ever had a revival while TMNT reinvents itself every few years without ever really going away for long.
>If you count them, there's going to be a new Swat Kats comic already funded by the fans
The Swat Kats revival has been in development for a decade with the creators pushing to get a studio to pick up the show again. Biker Mice has been in development since 2023. Mattel have realised Street Sharks still has an audience after the 30th anniversary, but are still giant faggots that won't release waves 3 and 4 of the 30th figures despite the main characters selling out everywhere. I don't know enough about what's happening with Moo Mesa to comment on what's been happening with it.

So my local Walmart dumped the pile of unsold Blue Bellybombs and Shredd/Krangs onto the discount section for $10 each. Picked up Shredder/Krang and had some problems with it: the figure came apart at the torso upon removal from the plastic tray!

Good news, it was a connect port but to get it to reconnect, I had to remove the loincloth piece. Was able to successfully reconnect it though and to be frank, the figure looks decent without the plastic loincloth. He's my very first non-OG Playmates Shredder and is a cool character, even with the crappy shading issues. And the Krang figure is also cool mini-figure wise.

My biggest gripe against NECA is sometimes, pins that should be in sockets aren't in them. My Demona has one of her ankle pins outside of the thing that houses them. Even dunking her leg in boiling water and trying to force it in didn't help.

It has nothing do with NECA, it happens with any pinned figure, and all you have to do is heat it up and push it through. It's no big deal.

What happened to doing the rest of the punk frogs? maybe you can't get Napoleon but you could do the other two, total originals, who could whine?

I got this not leatherhead today. He's a heavy one.

>Who?
>Not Leatherhead!
>Well great that it's not Leatherhead, but who took her?
>I just told you, Not Leatherhead!
>Yeah you told me it wasn't him, but who was it?
>Are you deaf? It was Not Leatherhead!
>What is your problem? You were the one who brought him up! Just tell me who took April!
>NOT LEATHERHEAD!

This seem about right with the copyright of certain characters?

is paramount not owned wholly by viacom?
>>
>>11626653
I completely forgot how to spell viacom when making that image.
>>
>>11626668
fair, but uh, so the thing about that is, viacom owns the entire franchise now, unless i've been lied to
you might have pointed out a few things they didn't get, but having a section for viacom on the right is silly because it's literally 'everything else' including all of 1987 (hence that not having representation on your chart)
>>
>>11626636
I don't think 4kids owns anything. Or Playmates for that matter. Honestly, the only ones that would probably be off limits for Paramount without an agreement would be the Saban characters, and a couple from the vintage era like Usagi and Panda Khan, and a few Mirage characters Bloodsucker, Cerebus, and there was one or two more Mirage characters that escape me whose creator held onto the rights.
>>11626653
>>11626669
You got it backwards. Viacom is owned by Paramount. Viacom no longer exists. I don't know why people keep bringing up Viacom. They haven't existed for over half a decade.
>>
>>11626636
Ok, I was curious about those later Playmates characters, so I did some wiki reading, and these are the appearances they made (or almost made) outside the toyline, if any.

Halfcourt: background of Shredders Revenge DLC, and an unnamed mutant giraffe basketballer that homages the character appears in an episode of Rise.

Monty Moose: relatively large role in IDW comic.

Walkabout: toy only

Scale Tail: almost appeared in both TMNT 3 on Gameboy and Mutant Mayhem, but was cut during development both times. Appeared in issue 2 of Black, White, and Green comic.

Hot Spot: toy only

Killer Bee: toy only

Needle nose: several minor background appearances in IDW comic.

>>11626669
I just don't think Viacom is willing to deal with Saban/Hasbro. They own everything from the Next Mutation, that's why IDW went through some hoops to make a new version of Venus.
Dunno on their stance dealing with Konami.
>>
>>11626739
because viacom ran nickelodeon, MTV, etc. paramount ran star trek and until pretty recently nobody ever paid attention to that, since star trek ran on whatever channel it felt like.
so to us, viacom is the big one. Nick/MTV are the big names. Paramount is whatever.
>>
>>11626904
>unwilling to deal with
so does that mean you think they own it or not? because you said you think they own it, but then 'dealing with them' is irrelevant. and you said there were hoops to jump through with venus, suggesting- unless you're trying to say Paramount (see anon I picked it up) is the ones telling IDW what they're allowed to use and might be doing so with stinginess that Saban wouldn't?
>>
>>11627076
Pretty sure they couldn't use the Venus they way they wanted so they turned her into a Punk frog that got frankensteined into a turtle.
>>
>>11627090
hm. possible. i wish things like this were more transparent.
>>
>>11627074
>viacom is the big one.
>Paramount is whatever.
This is weird to hear. Paramount is one of the big 5 movie studios (formerly big 7 until MGM and 20th Century Fox were consumed) and they existed almost half a century before Viacom. Half the movies I watched as a kid had that damned mountain logo. Paramount were always bigger to me.
>>11627076
>Paramount (see anon I picked it up)
Thank you. I normally contained my autism when it was mentioned in the past, but seeing someone says Viacom owns Paramount made me fetch my fidget spinner while I work on my Sonic OC donutsteel artwork.
>>
>>11626636

If 4kids made them the rights automatically went to Mirage, and then by extension Viacom.

And for what its worth, Monty Moose is in IDW.
>>
Now that I think about it, all the toy characters were designed by Mirage staff, so by extension they should have gone to Viacom too.
>>
>>11627203
yeah but who the fuck ever thinks about MGM or paramount or uhhhh Tristar? like people who call movies "Films" maybe. for the lay person, it's fox, disney, viacom, warner, and NBC. these are the people behind franchises we actually like.
>>
>>11627213
not necessarily, only if they also bought the entirety of playmates's rights. you can design something FOR another company and they at least partly own it
but I do believe that is the case, and they did buy those rights.
>>
>>11627213
I mean the Mirage staff designed Venus, Bonesteel and Dragon Lord, yet Saban still owns them.
>>
>>11627213
>all the toy characters were designed by Mirage staff
I thought Varner Studios designed the characters, but they were contracted by Mirage.
>>11627236
>yeah but who the fuck ever thinks about MGM or paramount
MGM are the ones with the lion logo that turns into Tom at the start of Tom and Jerry cartoons. Paramount are the ones with the mountain logo. Tristar had the Pegasus. Same as the 20th Century Fox logo with the drumroll and the horns opening for Star Wars. This shit was memorable because they were associated with memorable movies.
The funny thing is I can remember the "Viacom" voice at the end of their shows, but I would struggle to actually name 10 things they made.
>NBC
What worthy franchises did NBC make? Cheers and Frasier? Seinfeld? Do they make anything else that isn't aimed at housewives or milquetoast motherfuckers that think Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers are peak comedy?
>>
>>11627422
Cheers, Frasier, Seinfeld, and SNL yeah. to me those are bigger than anything MGM ever made. Tom and Jerry feels so ancient, even by Looney Tunes standards.
I guess I'm just more a TV guy than movie guy. so it's probably just me.
>>
Oh shit, NECA started the 2012 line?
>>
>>11628201
Yes, the 4 turts and Shredder are out.
>>
>>11628218
Any words if they're gonna keep going? I'd love if they did the Turducken Chimera or NOT April's Mom.
>>
>>11628238
They showed off Tigerclaw at NYCC and had a sneak preview hinting at Slash earlier in the year, so they will probably go pretty far. Chimera is a pretty big guy and would be pretty expensive, but April's clone mom seems more likely eventually.
>>
>>11628201
Yeah, they're in Targets now.

I've been re-watching the series, there's so many fun versions of characters they can do. Rahzar, Pigeon Pete, Napolean Bonafrog, Kraang Irma Mech.
>>11628486
They either got in trouble for using old kaiju they don't have the license for/didn't pay for, or scrapped the classic Godzilla line because they thought it'd fail. Also, the comic is IDW, who bought the license to use a lot of classic kaiju.
