Amazon finally put the howler down to about 20 bucks for about 20 minutes a couple days ago, 3 isn't the exact number I wanted to aim for but that was the order limit so it's what I'm going with for now until it eventually goes on sale again. The dog itself is pretty nice; articulation is good, it has a surprising amount of weight to it, and the paint detailing on the body is putting a lot of work in to sell it visually as fur rather than plastic, although it also puts the flat brown plastic of the saddle+reins in really stark contrast, which is not great. Still, for $20 I'm super happy with 'em, and will definitely grab a few more in the future for the rest of my night trooper squads to interact with. Would be extra nice to get some recolors of this for variety, but it seems like that would've been announced by now if it was gonna happen, so it probably won't.

I can't hate it too much because it's at least on the new stormtrooper body, and I absolutely love that, but I really hope they make it better before throwing out a single release and/or a 4-pack, because as it is now I don't want to put down the money to properly army-build these when it's so far from ideal.

It's once again that time where I post about new aliexpress 3.75" clones, this time they did the heavy trooper and I absolutely love it, except for one issue - they made it wrong, for seemingly no reason. The strap+pauldron it should have is on their "elite" trooper instead, while it has the strap+pauldron only seen on BARC troopers and rarely AT-RT drivers, so to get a correct heavy trooper, you have to get at least 2 figures, technically 3 if you want the BARC pauldron to not end up on a regular trooper. In this case I mostly don't care, since it didn't make me buy figures I otherwise wouldn't to fix the problem, but I hope it's addressed on future repaints so I don't run the risk of ending up with extra figures solely to get correct heavy troopers.
I was, of course, incredibly normal about getting a reasonable number of a trooper variant I've wanted to have for 8 years now, even on a battalion that certainly wouldn't've been my first choice. The 442nd is neat, but I honestly might've skipped it if not for being the first offering of the heavy trooper.
There's also this guy, who I thought might've been a pre-paint of Fox, but was apparently a pre-paint of the Kamino security captain, which went up a couple weeks after the 442nd and will be at my door within a couple weeks from now. No heavy trooper for them, which is a shame, but "what if shock troopers were gray" is enough of a selling point for me on its own. This could still lead to a new Fox, though, which would be great, considering the last official one was on the articulation-downgraded animated clone body and also goes for like $60.

>>11629754Honestly, I think part of the difference in quality is tied directly to Lucas not giving a single fuck and letting the people writing the books do whatever. There was zero oversight and near total creative freedom, whereas now everything has to conform with Disney brand standards. The current crop of writers definitely aren't as talented as the old guard, but I think a lot of why Star Wars is shit now really has more to do with it being a corporate product than anything else.
