Anthony reviewed these and didn't notice or mention the swivel at the knee in his bashing of them. Truly a fair and unbiased individual. Don't get me wrong, I agree with him that they are shit for the $30 price tag, but he is letting carelessness, and/or bias creep in to facts about the figures. That knee swivel is on the DCMV Abyss figure and it helps a lot in posing as it acts like a hidden thigh cut, which most McFarlanes besides motorcycle riders lack.

McFarlane Toys has no interest in making cool toys. Their focus is on making collectible versions of things you recognize and will pay premium for, knowing once you're on the hook you'll keep chasing rarer, elite, $60 editions.
"Fuck toys, fuck articulation, fuck aesthetics. It's the blue ninja from those video games and people will spend money on it."
>>
>>11627086
>Anyone who gets a toy early is already biased for the manufacturer and cant be trusted because they got free stuff.
I mean that's not necessarily true. I once got my hands on some Earthrise Transformers before any videos of them surfaced on YouTube. Sometimes people just find things in the wild early.

>Stop preordering figures and stop buying figures from companies that dont produce enough to buy figures without preordering.
I buy figures based on the characters, not whether or not the toy is the greatest engineered figure ever. But then again, if I don't like a line I don't collect it, despite the actual property. Like, I don't collect Toddslop because they're objectively bad figures, even though I'd love to have a DC equivalent to Marvel Legends.

McFarlane Toys figures are not all objectively bad. It also depends on what you value. If you heavily value articulation, many are bad or even downright awful. But if you heavily value sculpt, many are outstanding. There is no way to objectively weight these as the preference varies per person.
>>
>>11627126
Here's an issue though: most modern domestics are miserable to pose. Hasbro and McFarlane both embraced the ratchet, severely limiting positioning in poseability to specific predetermined points, rather than the way toys used to be which was a smooth friction joint that could stop anywhere along its range, that is a large portion of super hero domestics right there and even a large portion of domestics entirely.

Mattel's Masterverse line keeps ratcheting to somewhat of a minimum in only key areas like the ankles from what I have tested and Origins doesn't seem to use ratcheting. But those are kind of niche lines compared to DCMV, MK, Marvel Legends, and Star Wars

Just to finally finish off the topic of my white whale, the second CE Wonder Woman just arrived. Happy that she's in good condition as well because I didn't know what to expect after the seller told me the other one was so badly damaged that they couldn't send it to me.
Will unpack her by the end of the week when another batch of figures arrive along with some flight stands.
Gotta say I really like how her colours pop as well. There are quite a few figures which would be perfect for metallic-looking suits, yet they didn't bother investing in better paint.

>who gets a toy early
NTA, but any reviewer of anything who gets a product is suspect. It's why newspapers and tv shows never allowed their film and theater critics (or even restaurant food critics) to watch/eat for free. I always laugh when you go to Best Buy or Amazon and see all those ACTUALLY NEGATIVE reviews, especially for things like the summer Spin Master Superman toys, where the parent's writing the review making comments like "my little Bobby swallowed the Krypto toy and I had to take him to the hospital" when they give it a negative review because the toy says "3 and up" and their little brainlet child was 5 and still swallowed the plastic dog. You can just imagine their next sentence would, "I really wish they hadn't made it look so delicious."

>>11627072
>have to trust
>make definitive judgement calls
You should trust who has earned your trust, son.
I do watch these, it's how I decided the SpinMaster BAF of robot #4 would actually be more accurate to paying $30 for the McFarlane "theatrical" based on visible information like the length of the cape and the design of the torso, etc. Also, that the BAF articulated and looked on screen just as, and in some cases (paint app) better.
But that was a judgement I made, not one I got spoon fed, anon. If I saw a McFarlane robot for $5-10 on clearance, I'd probably pick it up as well.

Think of how many new molds could be made for figures if they didn't have this crazy idea that people want 1/10th scale vehicles.

1/12 can fit toys with bulky armor more cheaply than 1/10. There is no advantage to 1/10 scale besides potentially level of sculpted detail possible.

Hasbro reuses molds as much as McFarlane does though. It's just less noticeable because they use overlays... which are also reused. See pic.

And toylines work on budgets. Each wave has its own budget, so they don't spend over a certain amount of money and this budget is standard across the year. So one release doesn't affect the other. This means that a vehicle being made won't affect the budget from a standard wave. Inversely, this also means that the vehicle not existing wouldn't increase the amount of molds being produced for a wave.

If you wanted to increase the molds being created, you'd need to increase the price. This is why the vehicles all have brand new molds, because they cost $50+. If you wanted more brand new molds for the DC figures, the figures would start costing $3-10 more.

So vehicles being released is just there to make McFarlane extra money with their higher price point, which benefits fans who want that sort of thing. No one is negatively affected by them being made, aside from retailers who hold onto stock too long.

>Hasbro reuses molds as much as McFarlane does though.
Stop comparing to Hasbro. I said literally nothing about Hasbro. Start comparing McFarlane now to McFarlane before 2023 or so.

>If you wanted to increase the molds being created, you'd need to increase the price.
Anon, McFarlane already raised prices multiple times this year. WHERE'S THE NEW MOLDS?
>>
>>11627991
The point of the comparison is to show what is possible for a toy company to give you for your money.
If a large company like Hasbro reuses molds for $28 figures as much as McFarlane does, it points toward what they're capable of producing for their prices.
Be thankful they're not Mattel, who reuses molds even worse.

And prices being raised is only to keep up with inflation/tariffs/other issues like demand. Everything has raised up in price across the board over the past 5 years, from food, fuel, and all luxury products, including toys.
Creating new molds would be an extra price increase, which too many people here have already said they're not willing to pay or able to afford.

So which do you prefer... the current quality of product or finding two or three more molds per wave but nothing else changed for $30-35? To note that Hasbro is reaching $30 for their 1:12 lines without any improvements.

And i use Hasbro as primary example, because they have relatively high standards for budget children toys and very few companies (like McFarlane) have released higher quality budget children toys than them.
>>
>>11628000
>The point of the comparison is to show what is possible for a toy company to give you for your money.
>If a large company like Hasbro reuses molds for $28 figures as much as McFarlane does, it points toward what they're capable of producing for their prices.

Except if we compare to McFarlane before 2023, they were shitting out new molds like it was candy with a 19.99 price point. So it was clearly possible to do so. They could've went to 24.99 to buffer for costs and continued shitting out new molds like candy. But they raised the prices but didn't give us the molds. The reality is that a goblin from Mattel got in there, took over and started doing Mattel level reuse to ruin the lines and maximize profit rather than doing what McFarlane had done before. And McFarlane doesn't have shareholders.

>Everything has raised up in price across the board over the past 5 years, from food, fuel, and all luxury products, including toys.
This is just THIS YEAR, not 5 years, anon. They had a price increase a year or so ago to 22.99 too, then this year they went to 24.99 and later 26.99, and that is only for basic figures, ignoring the Page Punchers and Digital figures. Ignoring that the CEs went to $35 while still reusing molds. WHERE ARE THE NEW MOLDS FOR THE MONEY, ANON?

>So which do you prefer... the current quality of product or finding two or three more molds per wave but nothing else changed for $30-35?

Anon, frankly I don't buy the current product because it's just endless improper reuse. I'd probably be more likely to buy a new mold every once and awhile for $30. But that isn't even the choice. Because CE and DTE McFarlanes already are $35 and they STILL reuse molds. The only entirely new molds from Batman Returns wave are Catwoman and the penguin pack (who have little if any articulation, are a prohibitive exclusive, so cannot cost as much as a new highly articulated figure). The Penguin, Batman and Max all have reuse, heavy reuse in the case of Max.

And if you compare to Hasbro in 2008, of course there were making a shit ton of new molds for their brand new toylines.
When shit is new, they HAVE to make new molds. Once they make enough molds, they can start reusing them.

>This is just THIS YEAR
No shit? Everything else has increased in price THIS year too. It hasn't stopped, and as i pointed out, there's preorders for HAsbro shit for $30 now AND they're not increasing the quality either. So it's not going to stop getting more expensive in the future either.

Your entire problem is with the economy, not McFarlane.
You just don't notice because you don't buy any other toyline, or buy your own groceries, own a car, buy clothes, eat fast food, and other shit that normal people have noticed has gone up in price because they leave their house.

See pic? There's some mold reuse here, but there's way more new molding. This budget children's toy cost ~$45 one year ago. The previous image i used was released just a month ago, has way more mold reuse and it costs ~$65 RIGHT NOW in stores.
The higher prices are simply because of the current state of the economy. The mold reuse is just how shit has been done for 20 years or so. You can't expect other companies who make budget children toys to act differently, because this is already a standard that's higher than 90% of childrens toy companies out there.

>When shit is new, they HAVE to make new molds. Once they make enough molds, they can start reusing them.
This isn't how McFarlane worked, and it's evident by the fact that none of the molds they made were blank bucks that could be reused for many characters. There were molds that could be reused for different versions of Batman or Superman and the like with some modification but that's it. Even the booster-beetle buck they made later in 2023 had that dumb boot sculpted in so it wouldn't work on specific characters (they reused it anyway). McFarlane had never been a "body buck" producing toy company. Until Mattel Goblin. They did reuse, but in non-obnoxious ways. Until Mattel Goblin.

>Your entire problem is with the economy, not McFarlane.
So I thought if they went to $30 or $35 extra for basics I could get my new molds, anon, mentioned in just your last post? No new molds now, canceled due to The Economy?

>See pic? There's some mold reuse here, but there's way more new molding. This budget children's toy cost ~$45 one year ago. The previous image i used was released just a month ago, has way more mold reuse and it costs ~$65 RIGHT NOW in stores.
That is essentially a 2 pack. And McFarlane's 2 packs went from $40 to $80 with mostly reuse of both figures just by throwing in a megafig instead of a 2nd regular fig. Makes 45 to 65 seem not as bad. If I had to get one I'd certainly buy that Desert Viper pack before I'd buy the Spectre vs Atom Smasher abomination pictured here. Though in reality I don't want either.

I've actually wondered about that phenomenon for years, regardless of the community there's always some barely functional mutant who goes on predictable cycles where like every two weeks or so they just go full werewolf and lose their shit for a couple days, longer if you antagonize them during the peak of their unholy manic episode.
it doesn't matter what the topic or focus is, there's always one of them.

There's a lot of cool comic looks still out there, but sadly McFarlane Toys can't make them anymore since they are limited by what can be made with an existing buck for the most part (except Swolecrow for some inexplicable reason, they could've used the Mr Bloom body with some paint and a new head with some tampo for straw).

I don't think so. That Batman figure is about a 1/10. It could be salvaged with heavy customization. But this >>11628798
you'll never be able to paint over that extremely huge yellow Bat Symbol with a smaller symbol that isn't pixelated without the huge abomination showing through. And the grimacing headsculpt isn't great. And the articulation is subpar and elbows are terrible on that mold despite everyone hyping it when it came out. It's like a 5/10 at best.

In a small way i do regret passing this up in favor of rainbow batman but i can always, for awhile atleast, grab one later. Itd look good with hugo but its honestly grown on me since seeing it in person. It does suck to spend like $30 for a new head but as a origins fan i guess im used to this crap.
Ive been messing with swolecrow for a few days now and i dont think its that bad as far as muscles go. I think it loks decent but i understand maybe you guys wanted a smaller torso.
I think the riddler is worse than scarecrow as far being a buff stuff daddy. Why would the riddler ever need to have such a build when his whole thing is fucking with your logic? He has never been potrayed as a yokred mf, in rhe show, rhe cartoon or the movie so why does the classic riddler have such a well built physique?

But yeah, McFarlane - who hasn't cleared a good vanilla JSA or JLA, or Legion of Doom/Secret Society - much less a basic core LOSH, should totally do a time-traveler's wave. Let get Rip, Super Nova and Michelle, the Woman of Tomorrow figure easily turns to a Goldstar, the Blue Beetle buck with cape and Mid-Nite or similar head into Gold Star, and plenty of unmasked peg warmers easily convert to Hunter.

These are still clogging shelves at GameStop and Target has brought them back, just in time for Christmas. It's still a cheap, flimsy cash-grab by Todd, but I'll take one at half off (or less) for the chair, doo dads, and the console.
Saw some SpinMaster movie stuff at a Ross finally, and the Toys R' Us at Macy's has all their stuff at 50% off (not just the Superman movie but great deals in person that aren't on their site), I pretty much got all the junk I need for the nieces and nephews, including LEGO.
But I suspect this won't drop down till maybe 10% or something stupid for Black Friday, like the current small discount on Amazon, or after the Holiday.

Hush is baby's first Batman comic. It has a mystery box style storyline that features a rotating door of allies and villains, new and old, and gives a somewhat brief summation of Batmans history up to that point. Plus Jim Lee is considered to be the definitive DC artist by a whole generation of people. It's why they out him in charge of the New 52 art design. For better or worse.

Year One is a much worse book and had more negative consequences on comics and Batman. I can at least tolerate Hush. But Year One has slop that tries to connect into it, like Brubaker's The Man Who Laughs, which is one of the most hog shit, poorly written stories I've ever read. Also Kevin Smith loves Year One, and decided to connect his stories to it.

>>
>>11631402
Year One is bad. It features a scene where Batman is some thrill junky who gets stabbed in the leg by a child prostitute and never bothers to rescue the child. Catwoman is also turned into a hooker in the story and is aiding the child prostitute, and there's also a scene where Batman allows a homeless man to be burned alive to save himself, and scenes where Batman is trying to be scary for the sake of being scary at a dinner party. Kevin Smith later retconned the scene to have Batman piss himself during the dinner party scene. It's all character assassination after character assassination, and the only thing keeping it from being All-Star Batman is the fact that Jim Lee isn't drawing it.

Hush just reads like a standard run on Batman trying to do another Knightfall.

>Batman allows a homeless man to be burned alive to save himself
So you wanted batman to die along with him? This is his first year as batman, he almost let a teenage boy fall from from the balcony. He's not the bat-god that we all know and love. God forbid batman makes mistakes on his first year out.

It all depends on who draws him and sometimes the version.

In a manner of speaking, kinda sorta. The version created by Fox and Mayer got a mixed bag, versus their classic All Star Comics looks; and this doesn't take into account 'honorary members.' I honestly think my collector brain was trying to convince me it could be a good purchase. I like flash, i like the idea of the speed force and then i just grabbed him while shufflng through adam strange and simon baz (?) [gimp mask latern] figures. Ive never been the biggest fan of mcfarlane toys so i understand what ill get figure wise and value wise but it is kinda lame how they handle any accesories or gear if you get any. Ive got grappling hook guns g alore and an assortment of the same few hands in a rainbow of colors BUT not too many heads. Part of my issues with dark glash is that was a speed metal version that had more pop to it with the yellow accents while this dude is just a grey black mass that will easily be overlloked on a shelf.
Idk, ill trade someone like jarrett for a nice power girl or if any anons have a red tornado thatd be cool.
>>
>>11632025
Its got the good frank miller working on it, and while you may not empathize with batman you can easily understand the urge to correct a world thats gone out of control or just read an old guy hanging out with jail bait hoodlums.
Give the animated version a try as a background noise, its got ariel winter as carrie and she had giant gozangas.
>>11632040
Fuck that wave, the game sucks and this pixel paint crap sucks. Mcfarlanes handling of the dc license has sucked too. Just a bunch of self sucking man.

A better speed force related value actually would've been, hilariously enough, Max Mercury, half a year back or so when he was on sale for like 9-10 bucks. The body he uses was not too bad and he comes with somewhat cool effect parts that can work on him or multiple other figures. I got him on a whim and was pleased for 9 bucks. The big downside is of course the headsculpt.

As a Flash fan myself, you're right. The choices for figures of his rouges gallery really sucked up until Todd pushed out a bland mirror mister that's really only marginally better than the DCUC version in that it has more modern articulation - but then also comes with all the modern McFart flaws. At least we got that one unmasked Barry head sculpt.

Maybe todd could do like a villians focused wave or sub series of villians. Not everyone fights a superman or batman villian afterall. Shit just re issue some older figures even, like sportsmaster or zoom and repackage them in a box fearuring only bad guys in the art.
I just wish todd had focused on one or two action figure lines instead of just throwing the dc license into every mold he could.

The Chinese list a shit ton of what they call cake toppers, gift toys, etc. on ebay and aliexpress and it feels just like that.

Hmm, let me know your luck, what you bought and how much.
Would buy that Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne just for the shit and giggles if they are like a buck and the shipping was decent.
Always swore I wouldn't give real money to Aliexpress but since I just paid for Electric Blue and Red Superman from some rando on line via Pay Pay, I should stop shitting on AE.

They're blind bagged, and I'm really only looking for that Reverse Flash and Flash, so I'll have to figure out how to get them without buying a ton of bags. I don't see any for sale on eBay yet...but hopefully soon, they're still pretty new. Even better if someone on Aliexpress sells them after opening the bags.

Finally completed my Justice League with Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Wonder Woman is an okay figure, her legs are far too long and her head not being able to move properly due to the hair is a major nuisance. Looks-wise, she's a great fit though
Aquaman is great to pose and the only weird thing about him is the head. Still mind-boggled as to who saw that head sculpt or paint job and thought it should be greenlit

Glad to say though that apart from my replacing Batman with the No Man's Land version which I have yet to unpack and two optional slots (Shazam and Martian Manhunter) which I don't specifically care about filling unless the upcoming figures turn out to be good, I'm finally done with McFarlane

Thing is I'm not a fan for buying additional figures to replace them but both heads you posted look amazing on the body.
Fortunately for me, the head doesn't bother me that much, plus my cope in this case is the weird head at least being a non-generic one. If the head looked like the TDKR Superman one, I would immediately look for other options lol

Pegs but the ball is a little loose in the head itself like the hole is slightly to big but it still plugs in. My solution was to take a ziplock bag and fold over a couple layers of that thin plastic around the peg and now it works like a normal head movement and all with a good grip.

The furrowed brow shows why you should not make a whole highly expensive figure out of a background prop that is in like 5 seconds of a film. It isn't meant to be under as much scrutiny as a multi-hundred dollar figure. The brow definitely doesn't work and half the face plates don't work.
