== BIOMECHA GROUPBUILD ==

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

are trigger airbrushes as beginner-unfriendly as everyone says they are? how much more difficult are they to use compared to a double action airbrush?
>>
>>11634864
God damn, that thing's design is ugly as hell. What the fuck happened to Digimon? How do you go from WarGreymon to THAT?
>>
>>11635125
They are good for coating the whole thing quickly (priming, topcoating etc), but not really for shading and things like that. It's all about fine control of the spray.
>>
>>11635141
While I didn’t expect my pic to be in the OP, I will say that Digimon are always ugly, which is part of their charm. KaiserGreymon is the combination of like ten different spirits, hence the clusterfuck.
>>
>>11635154
And I think Bandai's being sadistic enough planning to release MagnaGarurumon exactly one year after KaiserGreymon's by proxy. They didn't announce him in the recent reveals last week, so it has to be another September release.
>>
>>11635145
I know that's a common complaint with them, but I really haven't had any problems doing fine details or shading with my trigger airbrushes. It's definitely not quite as accurate, but I think it's perfectly fine for something the size of gunpla. Only time I bust out the classic style airbrush anymore is for much smaller stuff, like minis.

Can you free-hand camo with a trigger airbrush? I don't think I could (but it's probably not so much about the trigger as about the distance from the hand to the tip of the airbrush for me).

And fuck you too, if they are making an all-original Digimon design with no parts shares P-Bandai. It's criminal, especially for a Garurumon parallel.

Say, if you are outside Japan and your P-Bandai item is bound for shipping in December, when exactly will your item arrive? I once ordered an item slated for November last year, but it came in on December 1.
>>
>>11637328
They send you an e-mail with the tracking number the day that it's put in a shipping container. There's no rhyme or reason, other than sending you an e-mail when the pre-order period ends telling you when they expect to ship it out, and the second e-mail with the tracking number itself.

From what I can tell, there's variance depending on the specific items you ordered (I assume they estimate the shipping date based on when your ordered kit gets printed and boxed). I've seen other anons get their P-Bandai shipments a few days before me, probably because their order contained different or fewer things.

Brown Background Anon here, got some decent deals from my local import store so I got some shit to show.

GQux Guncannon is a nice preview of some of the RX-78 construction, and while the torso is novel and does a decent job of simulating the bulk of the original design, it’s a bit of a wonky end result. I’m looking forward to the RX-78 white version to add to my collection, and I like the parts of the Guncannon that I’ll be building again.

The more I compare the GQux to other builds, the more I like it.

I got the magnamalo from hlj earlier this year. Its barely a model kit youre just putting armor on a frame. They also walk but mine came with a dead motor. 2/10 model kit and it made me cancel the others.

Nothing flashy here, just trying out the RMZ line. Honestly, not a bad kit. There are some minor annoyances, though. The ankles are probably the the biggest offender in that they're not even a ball joint just pegs into a hinge polycap. It gets a pass because it's the first in the line, but I do hope future releases get an upgrade. Other minor annoyances are the lack of color separation on the black parts. It's minor because you can just paint it (I did), but at least on the HMM they're separate bits. One thing I thought was odd was that are pre painted parts. The white on the tail and the gold on the blades. The real annoyance here is that those parts have a nub on them. Again, you can fix it with paint, but the really odd thing is there are both white and gold parts already.

Minor gripes aside, I really enjoyed this kit. It's right up there with modern high grades in my opinion and it might even be a little more. Like a high grade with a bachelor's degree, though that might be due more to size. While definitely smaller than its 1/72 cousin, it's still decently sized at 1/100. I'm not currently at home, so I don't have a MG on hand for size comparison sadly. As much as I love the HMM line, I do see myself getting more of these and currently have the noticeably smaller Command Wolf on deck.
>>
>>11639070
I was a bit disappointed in the ankles also, but ultimately I feel like I can get over it for a Zoids kit at a decent price.
>>
Got this on a whim. I like it

There is no real reason for it to do that if you use the right cement (no resin) and the color of the plastic goop matches exactly the plastic you are welding.

== ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD ==

Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

This model is cool as fuck Anon
Where did you buy it from?
>>
/smg/nigger here

QRD for someone who has built 80-something model kits? What do I buy and where does the weathering go? What to buy (as far as brands are concerned, I know that there is Bandai, Meng and a few others)?

Building a model for a girl who *loves* anime, she likes Evangelion, TTGL, Code Geese (Peace was Never an Option) and Escaflowne. No clue if she has seen Macross, Gundam or The Big O, but I might do Gundam anyway and also include a flash drive with the full anime of said series (depending on which one, the local shop has a lot of UC, Wing, G, SEED, SD and Build), if she has not seen it. I know that she has not seen Rayearth, if that matters.
>>
>>11649579
Are you asking what kits to buy or what you need for weathering?
Because kit wise it depends on who makes what, Bandai has made Code Geass kits and the RG Evas, there's a Moderoid Escaflowne, there are the Plaiobot Gurren Lagann kits, I think they're doing a reissue for Gurren Lagann itself next year? and there's Lazengann and Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann.

Weathering is something you'd probably be better looking at some tutorials for but it's not too hard if you just want to make the grimy rusty look.

>Are you asking what kits to buy or what you need for weathering?
Both.

Thank you for the information. I will do my research. Any recommended YouTube channels or websites (apart from Scalemates)?

Anyone know much about Chinese plamos on Ali/etc? I was hoping to find some cool original shit, but the only inexpensive shit I see is clones or IP copies. They seem alright, but still...
>>
>>11650031
If Chinese bootlegging companies attempt to make an "original" kit, whether it's a Wuxia Notdam with dragons and spikes or a Gundam IP design at a scale that Bandai hasn't done yet, they tend to try to charge prices comparable to Bandai if not more. If it's a wholesale copy of an existing Gunpla kit, they tend to try to undercut Bandai and sell it for cheap.

More of the original stuff is starting to make it to US webstores like USAGS or Newtype. Ali is where you go to find Daban shit.
>>
>>11650057
I see. Any of the budget shit (ie, sub $10) worth peeking at, or is it gonna be a waste of money compared to the alternatives? I just haven't built a kit in a while, but I need to fill up an Ali cart and thought it'd be cool.
>>
>>11650064
The general rule of thumb for those is, expect to have to do a decent amount of your own work to make it look good (filling in holes with putty, filing down connection parts to make them fit properly, etc.). They tend to cut corners in order to maximize profits, on top of generally not being very good at what they do. It also varies depending on the bootlegging company, which unfortunately is something I have very little knowledge of. For instance, there's apparently at least two companies that bootleg the HG GM Spartan, one of them good and the other bad. They also will occasionally change the naming on the packaging and some of them will quickly go out of business and sell their molds to others on very short notice, so it's something you kind of have to do your own research on or know someone who keeps up with this shit regularly.

All in all, it's generally something you buy if the Bandai version isn't readily available, the Bandai version is too expensive, or you just want to roll the dice and get some kitbashing material. I know that Daban tends to be "reliable" but their shit also requires work. I think JMS is another reputed bootlegger. But again, this is not something I go out of my way to do research for.

>cheap acrylics i can get from walmart, home made thinner (3 parts distilled water, 1 part 99% isopropyl)
>testors metallic gold
>harbor freight avanti airbrush kit, rigged the brush to run on my 8 gal shop compressor
>krylon fusion flat black all in 1 for primer

*whistles*

So its supposed to do the detail work traditionally done by the hobby knife?

Is it like a razor blade, or more of an ultra fine file?
>>
>>11650528
>So its supposed to do the detail work traditionally done by the hobby knife?
No, it's a scraper/chisel, it doesn't "cut" stuff like a hobby knife.

>Is it like a razor blade, or more of an ultra fine file?
Neither. It's a relatively thick piece of ceramic sharpened at 60 degree angle. You can't shave with it (though you can shave off a nub if you have steady hands), you can scrape off flash along the side of a part and you can make v-shaped panel lines.

Chinese OCs aren't going to be cheap, at least that's what I've seen. This girlpla I'm building right now cost about the price of MG Nu Gundam and it's very detailed with plenty of part/ color separations plus gimmick where you can swap between full robot head and human head, among other things.

In recent years, the chinese plamo hobby industry is getting pretty serious so for these OCs, you will be expecting them to cost serious money similar to the Japanese counterparts.

>Limited version Hguc hyaku shiki restock

There are 2 version of this

The champagne gold set that with the mk2/zeta and the chrome standalone version

Just what color is this supposed to be?

Which one should I get?
>>
>>11651388
How much are they and how much do you like the Zeta, Mk II, and Hyakushiki, and do you paint
>>
>>11651388
>>11651416
>both Hyakushikis have different coating
>Mk II has different colours
>it's the 0088 P-Bandai Zeta and not the default Zeta, apparently has more colour correction than the regular
It just depends on how much you love the other things and whether you paint. I have the regular HGs for the Hyakushiki and Mk II and look forward to getting the Zeta, but I know people who disliked the regular Hyakushiki just painted it themselves
>>
>>11651416
The 3 in 1 is like twice as expensive than the standalone chrome

But I don't particularly care about getting another revive mk2 and the new zeta- that I think is clearly inferior than the original- though the box set zeta used the one with the color separated wing binders which is nice
>>
>>11651438
Then just get the other Hyakushiki if you don't care about 2/3s of the set?
>>
>>11651139
That kit being? And why is it so difficult?
>>
>>11651727
It's not about a specific kit, anon.

Every kit I decide to build next has to have something I haven't done before/has to require a new skill I don't have yet/etc. That's what makes this hobby interesting for me and it also makes every kit I build the "most difficult, skill involved" for me at that point in time (which is obviously subjective).

Bit of an update: I bought a EVA-00 from a no-name brand (neither Bandai nor Meng, plus it is box scale). The girl that I am building for really likes Rei, which is why I chose it. Two of the guys in the shop said that they were very good. I posted in /smg/ originally, so I will copy some of the stuff that I said over there...

I will be doing a repaint with the white being replaced with Vallejo Game Color Bone White with a white filter using AK 3rd gen acrylics. The orange will be a custom color using AK 3rd gen paints. No clue on the gray and red.

Any recommendations on a wash and futher weathering apart from some sponging and drybrushing of aluminum? I am thinking of a dark blue-gray wash with Vallejo Pale Blue as a base and perhaps a medium filter over the black parts, but I have no clue whether this is accurate enough or not. I guess I could rewatch all of NGE since it has been a good five years at least and I just started watching anime for the first time in two years, but I am knee deep in a rewatch of Maison Ikkoku, so I do not want to change things to something else.

I will be gluing as much as possible together, since I don't believe in snap fit, but there seems to be movable joints, so I will leave those free. Later an anon on /smg/ said just snap them together, less of a hassle.

Any other tips would be most welcome, since this is out of my comfort zone.

>I will be gluing as much as possible together
If you're going to do that then make sure you use cement and not actual glue.

Any recycle niggas around?
I'm going to nipland soon, and want to take a bulk of runners with me to dump into the bamco recycle bins.
Problem is, I won't be around gundam bases for at least a couple of weeks. Are there any other spots other than gundam bases to dump loads into?
>>
>>11653741
The extra jet fuel that will be used to carry your plastic trash over to Japan is going to offset any good you'd do by recycling it there. Stop being silly and recycle it locally like the rest of us.

If anyone here has the black magician girl model kit i'd like some help, please.
I followed the instruction like i always do but something just feels wrong about her neck and how it came out. The necklase is too lose and the "neck looks jaringly ugly like this. I can't push it down anymore without the risk of literally snapping her neck but i feel like i missed something here. Or it actually is how it's supposed to be and i'm just tripping?
