This is really bad. Swindle is one of the few standout combiner team members that people would probably buy on their own. It's not a good robot or a good jeep/FMC, which is really disappointing because the Combaticon limbs were three for three so far. A cosmic fumble.

Chunky boys.

>>11642682
>yeah they didn't really think that one through. and there's no reason the cylinder can't simply be more of a chin.

The original toy also did that (it's so the grey face forms the back of the combined minicon mode) but it wasn't as noticeable. They always manage to make transformation joints uglier, look at the bike mode sides when compared to the original.

I actually don't mind him overall, the vehicle mode is alright and the robot mode ain't too bad. Also the trailer/gun carriage is a cool idea. That said the opaque baby blue windscreen is awful, it really needed to be clear plastic. Opaque windows don't work on open-topped vehicles.

Absolutely not. CW Swindle wasn't great but he actually had ground clearance, which is more than I can say for AOTP. He was also a Deluxe and could be an arm OR a leg, as opposed to this thing which is a Voyager and can only be a (rather crappy) leg filler.

I never talked about prices, you're free to do whatever you want with your money. If you want to complete the new Bruticus you'll have to buy that box with wheels, if you think it's not worth it you just saved money and that's great too.

The only thing I said is that saying the CW one is a better vehicle mode is laughable. That's it.
>>
>>11643020
That's about $10 more than what Motormaster cost. It's outrageous but not any different from the other base combiner figures.

>>11642931
He looks fine to me. Not perfect, but no worse than Vortex or Brawl who are in that same "not perfect, but still pretty nice" category.

How do you guys cope with FOMO? I get that I could just NOT buy something, but what if it's never available again? What if aftermarket prices just keep going up? What if it never resells again?

The new trio of announcements hasn't really excited me. I think the voyager price hike has me being extra critical of Sideways and Swindle, both of whom look kinda shit for their pricepoint.
>>
>>11643272
I look at all the bots I have that I could have 100% gone without and in hindsight wasn't even actually all that interested in to begin with, and the fact that I don't have any fucking room for anything.

That helps a little.
>>
>>11643272
I spend a lot of time looking around online for it not being sold at a retarded price and eventually just start forgetting about it, but it takes awhile depending on what it was. I can't say I've gotten better at coping with fomo but it's never really destroyed me. I still feel depressed I missed out on Unicron but my life isn't worse for not having it. The want might also be stronger then the enjoyment I'd get having it. That's been the case with a couple things I've bought only to re-sell after a couple months when I realize it's just a toy.
>>
>>11643277
I had a period where I bought whatever looked cool and now I have a bin full of figures I don't think I could even sell like the Kingdom T-wrecks figure I bought for $50 that now sells for $20. Might just give them away if I can't find anything that's worth the effort in trying to sell.
>>
>>11643277
The "issue" is I'm already very selective with the things I might want to begin with, so when I miss out on one it's something I feel like I truly wanted. I guess I could always be proven wrong once I have it in hand, but still.
>>
>>11643306
That's just life, in this hobby there's always a high chance some scalper dickweed will fuck you over from buying what you want. It's hard not to feel disappointed but you just have to do what you have to do to cope. Maybe one day you'll come across it long after you stopped looking for it.

yeah but i'm okay with that one..
at the very least, if toys really wanna do the missile launcher thing, first of all it should be one that actually IS a missile launcher in the source material or whatever, and secondly it should have a 'safety' you can turn on.

I'm happy with the two I have. the lava triceratops to be TM2 megatron's minion, and Transmutate with the idea of 'oops she tried to scan a beast mode. she isn't very good at it'
>>
>>11643241
if transformations weren't so annoying these days, I'd probably regularly get large bunches of mine into altmodes just to pose together
if I get a more convenient camera setup, I could see taking more regular pics for you guys, but as it is.. I just don't feel I have time.
>>
>>11643359
The contrast between transforming my armada figures and the legacy line is pretty funny. I can transform the armada figures like an army guy loading his rifle.
>>
>>11643363
I think the modern design team is too focused on making "collector action figures" instead of making fun transforming robot toys.
>>
>>11643335
Fuck yeah, hes that botcon one right?
>>
>>11643370
I mean more simple toys exist as separate lines, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't want my transformers to be more collector oriented and look as good as the masterpiece line. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a good middle ground for engineering and looking good. Or not anything that would cost under $100 for the most part.
>>
>>11643010
Vehicle modes with clear windows are also undrivable. They're toys, you fucking turbo autist.
>>
So, I missed the preorder window on Pulse for Onslaught due to being at work at the time (though I managed to get Sideways - looks like he hasn't sold out yet). What other sites can I check for him? I see he's up on BBTS, but I'm very skeptical of their "Price does not include tariff surcharge" disclaimer (why the hell would he even HAVE a tariff surcharge on him? Hasbro's HQ is situated in Massachusetts, not Tokyo), and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to tack that shit on as an additional fee if I ordered there. He's not up on Amazon, nor am I seeing him up on Target's or WalMart's sites.
>>
>>11643376
The point I'm trying to make is having an opaque windscreen on an open-topped vehicle doesn't work or serve a purpose. On a fully enclosed car it's fine because it's hiding robot bits, but on a jeep or whatever it just makes it look like any driver would be completely incapable of seeing the road for no good reason.
>>
>>11643370
which.. I'm okay with. I'd rather transformations not be compromised. In fact I'd like to see more panelriffing chinese magic in some of these

HOWEVER, we need much stronger plastic. These Kingdom guys, I can feel parts flexing, especially the parts like Tigatron's flanks that literally have to be flexed to fit into place.

Onslaught wasnt nearly $200 on his own

Limbs could interchange and do scramble city mode

You dont have a right to complain about combiner wars when were at the stage the jews who run Hasbro are now charging nearly 100 a fucking limb, their voyager sized and somehow SOMEHOW they still look like shit
>>
>>11643067

everyone's aware that starting in 2019, all prices started shooting up, with flimsy excuses. Because they think making 5% more money while cutting the value of the dollar in half somehow works. or because they're run by chinese, one or the other.

NTA but how much money do you spend monthly on toys? I'm relatively new and seeing people talk about new waves in terms of which ones they're skipping instead of which ones they want to get is just insane to me.
>>
>>11643518
NTA, but honestly, I tend to skip most new releases unless it’s a character I really want. Most toys eventually go on sale, especially the main waves, so I just wait until then so I’m not spending as much money. I refuse to pay $90 for Nemesis but I already know he’s going to go on sale for $60 on Hasbro Pulse Outlet

This WOULD bother me, but half the time I see an older figure in a crazy pose that's the last thing I notice about it. I have a hard time believing I wouldn't keep him in the Nova Prime "fuck these two things that are both at 45 degree angles offset from either side of me" pose.

>>
>>11643743
I've got the old Cybertron Optimus, but I only have the Nova Prime version of the Siege mold. Still, I think it's probably similar enough for a comparison.

In my opinion, the original version from the Cybertron toyline is so much better that it's not even funny. Just about the only thing the new one improved was having ankle tilts. But in every single other way, including size, aesthetic, sturdiness, alt mode, gimmicks, and playable features, I prefer the old one by far!

As for whether it's worth the higher price, that depends on how badly you personally want a better toy of this version of Optimus. If you aren't particularly attached to this design, then the Siege one, despite not being a big step down, might still be able to fall into the category of, "good enough."
>>
>>11643772

Cybertron personally is the only good UT series, but even that has a few stinkers that not even a Generations toy could fix. Still, a new Thunderblast would suffice to hopefully work, and I really wish they make the Planet X Soldiers as recolors of the AOTP Cybertron Sideways. Maybe in another troop builder pack, or just go all the way and sell them individually in complete retail, but with the faction switch gimmick removed (as in, no Autobot and Decepticon logos in the slider parts).

As for another wishlist item, I want a new Sqweeks in the Studio Series line. We did scratch the surface on The Last Knight stuff, why not go all the way with more TLK?

My idea is to bring all pre-transformers as the main focus, that could be from Diaclone, Micro Change, Macross, Beetras, Dorvack and others.
The characters included in this image are:
- Spin-Out, a human friendly character, partner with a human kid.
- Magna Convoy, the leader.
- Dreadlock (VF-1S)
- Laserwave (Astro Magnum)
- Motorarm (Beet-Gadol)
- Megaplex (MC-12 Walther P38 Gun Robo)

Different topic, but among the Transformers Prime characters that got First Edition toys, which ones do you think are the better version between that and Robots in Disguise? To recap, the characters with First Edition toys are as follows:
>Optimus Prime (Voyager)
>Bumblebee (Deluxe)
>Arcee (Deluxe)
>Bulkhead (Voyager)

NTA, but I think a better way of putting it would be to say that you need to innovate without changing the core appeal of the brand. Transformers cartoons like Beast Wars or Armada changed a lot of things but at their cores they are still series about two warring factions fighting over some resource in order to win the war. That’s honestly the main problem I think Earthspark suffers from, setting it after the war takes away a core aspect of the franchise that draws people in.

That was in Season 2 - the probe was sent out AFTER the Transwarp explosion, which means Megatron had his Transmetal body with the Railgun tail weapon. >continue to play with 86 Soundwave

I can't believe I am saying this

I think they should have kept the Netflix cassette bots.

Yes, ravage looks slightly better this time, but the previous one for all its compromises is a full transformer. That little cassette transforms into a full bot without any add-ons. the new one even has to put on it tail. It's one thing to attach the rockets but the tail? seriously?

The same goes with lasebeak. The 86 can't even do a proper flying pose. The neck got blocked. Why? IDK. And I seriously can't say this looks better than the Netflix's incarnation.

I really think the only reason we got 86 Soudnwave as a leader figure because they stopped doing legend class and add-on packs like the prime master bodies and micro masters so they have to get those smaller items pack with deluxe and voyager figures or else it would be out of possiblity of release.

Fucking love him. Only real drawbacks are that the articulation in the shoulders is a little limited and some have reported issues with chest piece being fragile due to being made from clear plastic. He looks awesome though and he's really fun to mess around with.
>>
>>11644784
>articulation in the shoulders is a little limited
I can deal with it. I'll take "possibly not being able to T-pose" over "looking extremely fucking awkward when T-posing" like with AotP Slingshot and Fireflight. Or AotP Superion.

>some have reported issues with chest piece being fragile due to being made from clear plastic
That one might be a little harder for me to accept, though. Mostly because my Toxitron Collection Jazz (the eye-searing orange version) developed a noticeable crack on the roof / backpack, due to it being painted clear plastic.

Thanks, I'll place an order for him tonight. I need more 'Cons in my lineup.

That's a weird take. I'd rather have something that looks awkward but I can decide if I want to use or not than not even having the option in the first place.

Also Tarn is exactly the same case as those.

Super optimusus is the only reason I like Optimus.
>>
>>11644870
I don't consider Fire Convoy as Optimus. He shared the Convoy rank but he is not Optimus, like Primal, Lio Convoy, Big Convoy, they all have some resemblance of the Convoy/Prime look but they're not meant to be an alternative version of the same character.
>>
>>11644877
In that case no in that picture is Optimus other than arguably Star Convoy
>>
>>11644870
>>11644881

I really like Convoys during the 2000's era, where they all have seasonal combination upgrades, like:

The default combination with the trailer to form Super Mode.

And ML, SL and GF all have a flight mode combination: Jet Convoy, Wing Convoy and Sonic Convoy.

Finally, the ultimate combination: Magna Convoy, Omega Convoy. Sadly Galaxy Convoy don't have an ultimate combination, but he can use the axe from Megalo Convoy.

Yes. it is funny how hard the movies initially went on "engine becomes a different guy" because they had three or four different versions of what Soundwave should be. And when they finally did get to him, his helper just shoots out as a missile, not any kind of visibly integral part of the altmode, which itself is cybertronian, so it wouldn't anyway.
and then his helper in turn coughs up his own helper, so like, damn

I thought of that, but I was thinking more conceptually.
Like Hasbro was considering doing Powermasters after they did a Headmasters line, but didn't feel like putting in the engineering of a whole bunch of figures who transformations have to be unlocked. so you'd have a bunch of minifigures turning into engines that didn't do anything and Hasbo decided it would be more exciting to kids if instead of engines, they were Prime Masters giving powers of the Primes of whatever that nonsense was.

Doubledealer looks like someone bothered to remember he had little guys attached to him and an excuse for Rumble/Ratbat retools.

Same really. Used em since 2010 and they were insanely good at points
Early 2020 they did a site overhaul and redesign a lot disliked
Then no longer doing the "Payment Invoice" system
They'd just hit you no warning for shit and you'd have 4 days to cover it or lose it and face a negative strike
Then jumping shipping more and more
Then the Covid shit and how they handled that scamming tens of thousands of people

It just got worse to deal with

I haven't paid attention to HLJ for years, not since they were begging customers to ship their private warehouse orders. Was that during COVID lockdown?
It feels like they were never the same after the 2011 earthquake.

so sick of things that function being that easily ruined
>>11645729
yep that's as good as it gets, I'm afraid. Beast mode head really should have been larger for both of airazor's modes, but whatever.

I think you can squeeze a little more forwarditude out of the knees, but yeah that's basically it. the tail is sort of a joke, like tigerhawk's and silverbolt's. gotta be same designer.
>>
>>11645759
>the tail is sort of a joke, like tigerhawk's and silverbolt's. gotta be same designer.
According to tfwiki, Filch and Tigerhawk were designed by Shuhei Umezu, though the Airazor mold was done by Yūya Ōnishi. Shogo Hasui designed Silverbolt.

Every Transformer is designed in Japan. Hasbro "designer" means concept artists and colourists. Takara does all the actual work.
>>
>>11645789
every interview and designer note i've seen since then contradicts that. not to mention back when it was kenner.
takara teaches them the engineering, and then they do their inferior versions
>>
>>11645791
>every interview and designer note i've seen since then contradicts that.
Every single time the american designers credit something about the transformation, the mention a japanese name. When they talk about color schemes, that's when they're usually involved. It's pretty clear that most of the design is made in Japan and the american guys are the ones who decide the characters to be done and their decos. Also the ones that act as a link between the higher ups at Hasbro that control the budget and the japanese designers.
>>
>>11644989
Man, they could've gone full Sentai if they left enough space on Omega to turn Wing Saber into armor. Like the inner red halves become his chest and the blue halves become his shoulder canons. Then have 2 drones fit in or on his shins, while 2 more become gauntlets.

Slag has a tail backpack that just sits there and doesn't really tab, but stays in place.
Swoop feels a bit undercooked and his proportions feel somewhat off, specially in pteranodon mode, but it's still a good toy.
Snarl is the better one of the three, only thing I dislike is how the back doors where you hide the head don't have enough clearance to open enough unless you flex his spikes a bit so they don't bump with each other.

Best one is still Grimlock. Nonetheless, they're adorable potatosaurs and look great as a group.

>the tail is sort of a joke
It sucks, not just because of how small it is, but also because it's completely the wrong shape for Filch - she had a much longer, more wedge-shaped tail on the show. Fortunately, the issue can be somewhat corrected with upgrade kits; I bought the Kingdom Airazor "Tail Thruster" kit and repainted it to match Filch's colors as best I could, and while it's still not show-accurate, it looks a lot closer to what an actual Magpie's tail should look like and also gives her a neat pair of wrist blasters in robot mode.
There's another kit out there specifically for Filch (which also includes a new head for her robot mode), but the tail is still too short and not quite the right shape.

>>11645978
Yeah, I posted these pics not long after I got her. Still don't think I got the color on the tail just right, but it's close enough - I have no idea why they never released an alt color version of the kit for her, given the tail is a better fit for Filch than it was for Airazor. But yeah, lengthening the tail really goes a long way towards making her look less awkward, though the tiny head is still an issue (but one we have to live with, sadly).

They inflate the numbers by including slop from "Ask Vector Prime" as canon. They're the same character. Slag's name was changed to Slug because not only is 'Slag' apparently an offensive term in Great Britain (somehow. What do they call the leftover junk fro ore refinement?), but Beast Wars later established it as an in-universe swear (and Rhinox's favorite one, at that).

This confirms what I noticed, Rook's head mode looks like utter shit now because it transforms differently, now Rook's arms are the same as Mirror's, meaning the horns are too low in head mode.
They always need to fucking reinvent the wheel and fuck up something. Is it really that difficult to look at an old design and understand why it was made in a certain way the first place?

The head modes are the most important part of these minicons, for fucks sake. But it goes beyond that, the individual modes have less articulation than the originals (the removable Rook's legs and Crosswise arms are solid pieces).

It's baffling to me that the old toy looks better and better when compared to this, and that thing barely can pose. This was supposed to be the Sideways I always wanted back then, but it really isn't.

I owned the original Cybertron Sideways and getting the AOTP version of it has burnt me out from ever bothering to get anything that can fill a nostalgia itch from Hastak's side. Whatever it does better than the original is marginal at most, and the fact it isn't even strictly better than the original in all regards is a peeve.
I also owned the original Armada Sideways, and again I feel as if I were to buy it, I'd be walking into that trap again. And I refuse to get burned for a third time because this feeling initially happened with the new Armada Starscream.
It's a matter of me realizing that these "new" toys can't fill the nostalgia itch because it's not doing enough better for me to care.
