>>11643921I don't hate dreamzzz, it's had plenty of neat or interesting sets, but I do hate that nearly every single lego theme since the Lego movie has become completely and totally interchangeable and nearly indistinguishable from eachother. It's all just quirky mish mash where any Ninjago could be any LEGO movie could be any monkie kid could be any dreamzzz etc. Crazy mashups can be very fun when there's an actual baseline to mash up. If every theme is any theme it's no longer exciting to see a space robot pirate fighting a mech ninja etc. A return to an era of well defined, focused themes is crucial. Give us 6 years of 2-3 wave totally individual themes and then slam them together with some multiverse shit for 3-4 years. But it should never be the standard norm for longer than key archetypes to make appearances.

With the number of units Lego produces I'm sure it's an incredibly tiny, tiny amount relative to production costs like you're suggesting (since it's a one time cost vs number of units, and this is why when small companies say molds are expensive, that's because those are usually a huge number relative to the small production run), but the point is that it doesn't matter. In Lego's case, they shifted their business model to be the way it is, with minimal new molds, maximizing use of their existing parts library, etc. So it isn't so much that "new molds" are the bottleneck as it is Lego doesn't want to make more new molds. Their goal is ultimately to make as much profit as possible, and since they feel like the current path is going in that direction, they don't need to change anything (or... I guess in the case of Lego they're now going to be trying that Smart Brick, so hey, trying something new, for better or worse). That meme some people have posted with the Mega vs Lego Pikachu isn't necessarily wrong, a lot of people think Lego can do no wrong and will buy anything they produce, so why should Lego change?

I get what they were trying to do with having different colored uniforms indicating different roles and serving as a callback to classic space and Futuron, but the way they went with it made the designs seem gaudy. There's already quite a lot of details on the torsos, so adding the big brightly-colored helmets on top just looks distracting. The Futuron-inspired torsos on the big spaceship look better since they mostly consist of white + secondary color that ties in with the helmet, but I'm not a huge fan of the new helmets. They look so much bulkier than the classic motorcycle helmet.

It's Christmas time and I saw the new Christmas train on the Lego store and noticed that it can function with electronics but I also noticed that it's a new battery box and remote. Also that the new train wheels no longer have a steel bar inside.
