IIRC they do not typically hold enough friction to be really used as joints and they're not meant to, since most frequently they were used to make Technic steering/drivetrain systems with suspension. The yellowing is probably dirt getting rubbed into the microscopic indentations caused by the scratching. The back is unaffected because it's not as exposed to the other pieces as the front is.

Some questions about washing secondhand Bionicle. Do I need to take sets apart before putting them in the soapy water? Can rubber parts like Krana go into the water with everything else? And how do I wash a Midak Skyblaster (I assume it has a metal spring inside so it probably shouldn’t be dunked in the water)?
>>11726099You don't have to, but if you want a thorough clean, you should take them apart. I'd be weary about pieces that are notorious for breaking. Krana would be fine. The material is basically unbreakable. I'd just clean the surface. If you want to excessively use water, just make sure you dry it carefully after the fact.
