I plan on getting the random repaint of the mold exactly 1.5 years from now when the prices actually match it's demand.
>>
Nothing on SS86 Cyclonus yet, right? I don’t care if it’s literally the same toy as the. Kingdom release though it’s probably going to be just straight up the same mold, but probably slightly more accurate to the movie coloring.

He looks like he has those MP Soundwave hips, only without the crotch plate to hide it.
>>
>>11759541
I wish they had just done this with astrotrain and gave budget to shockwave or wheeljack, who are still using the old molds that were mediocre then, while the astrotrain mold from the same line was easily one of the most impressive and lasting. I think all it needed was some gaps filled and a wrist rotation, and to abolish the trailer.
>>
>>11759544
Astrotrain was the worst though and is only getting any praise now because the new one is uglier in bot mode.

Big Convoy is exactly as mediocre as I thought he would be. The only thing improved here is that his joints are smoother, but that comes with the territory of the og being twenty years old.

The whole thing is too squat and bulky generally, with the result being that his kibble somehow ends up being even more restrictive than the original at blocking decent poses.

General sculpt work is fine, the fur texture is grossly rough. The proportions really are not good at all. Going roughly off the character sheets is good and all, but he does not EVER look this fat I the show.

The headsculpt somehow is also worse than the original, with it being oddly long and skinny...

I am so lonely. All the other Autobots think I'm a gas guzler. No one talks to me. No one wants to be my friend-- They think I am a coward. They send me from planet to planet, shielding people in their name. And as I get better at it, their disdain for me grows more and more. I am a victim of my own success. Trailbreaker. I don't even get a real name, only a purpose. I am capable of so much more and no one sees it. Some days I feel so alone I could cry, but I don't. I never do. Because what would be the point? Not a single person in the entire universe would care. Take it to the Allspark.

Shuttle mode was compromised too. Look I know this general loves New Bad Old Good but Astrotrain was a shit tier back then and people even then preferred to just hold onto their Titans Return figures.
>>
>>11759572
Siege astrotrain was multitudes better than the titans return one. You can't even call the third mode a train it was closer to a stick with guns on it. Not to mention it had less articulation and more robot form compromises, the only saving grace is that the shuttle mode is more cohesive.
>>
>>11759577
>the only saving grace is that the shuttle mode is more cohesive.
It wasn't even a shuttle, just a generic spaceship.

The FitnessGram Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal bodeboop. A sing lap should be completed every time you hear this sound. ding Remember to run in a straight line and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark. Get ready!… Start.

Quickstrike's scorpion head moves more out of the way than it used to in robot mode, but now it sits too high in beast mode, showing the big obvious robot pelvis, whose thighs are not even attached low enough. And yeah he used to have fucking clownshoes, but now his scorpion mode has what is just obviously robot shins for forearms, and way too small pincers.
and worst of all, these things are way too minor for anyone to bother making a kit for them. I really, really wish we got more 3p CHUG scale shit.

>>
>>11759802
I mean
you're not wrong at all, but I also think that reference images you look up online should be reliably correct. it's nuts that you'd need to look them up in some official Hasbro archive or something.
When I google a particular animal so I'm representing it right in a drawing, I never worry it's the wrong one. and it's very rare that I get something totally fictional, like a plant that was really made from mushroom caps stuck together with toothpicks

the massive, MASSIVE amount of mistransformed, misleading, and obscured images of transformers is a failure with many fingerprints on it. And realistically, Hasbro's own archive almost certainly has mistransformed shots, since that's how EVERY OTHER FIGURE is shown to us in previews
>>
>>11759809
>but I also think that reference images you look up online should be reliably correct.
That's what Hasbro thinks too
>>
>>11759808
Maybe we can confuse the shrinkflators by moving every size down a tad, so the new 'deluxes' are bigger than the old cores, since old cores were too small.. but now that's the new starter size. then yknow, leaders become what we expect from voyagers, and they start doing commanders regularly.
and also they lower their prices hahaha yeah. Come on guys get it together.
>>
>>11759809
Hasbro throws out their archives because whenever a new CEO comes in he doesn't want anything to do with the old stuff before him. Only the designers of the toys would keep references around and only if they had the space, because Hasbro does not just have a big wall with every toy they've ever made on it because whimsy is dead and everything has to look like a coffee house now
>>

It's hard to pick a 'dream' one because I'm just a beast guy, so there's no impossibly obscure recolor characters I can think of. Everything is plausible, even if some are unlikely (and many would need a normal version before they could have a recolor)

It was always very hit and miss when it came to competing with the original movie lines, much less the screen itself. The HFTD voyager Optimus was always better than the SS options, for example. At best you got something like SS Starscream, but it's the DotM deluxe just upscaled.

They could release the HTFD Voyager Optimus--even as a leader class--and it would immediately be the best shit in Studio Series.

Well that's easy, because that's what she always was and because people wanted an official female seeker for decades. (though we also have Nova Storm, often forgotten about)

For fuck's sake anon, that's what I mean and in no way contradicts what I said. This is why I always talk about the autism of this general. I mean in broad strokes, obviously. You've seen Kingdom Tracks to Road Rage right? Are you really gonna say she's not "red Tracks" at the end of the day? And yes, I would have also liked her as pictured without any retooling because the seeker design is inherently kind of androgynous to begin with.
I love how there are people out there who will clamor for a new Strika and then say your pic related looks too much like a dude, all in the same breath.

You're being incredibly disingenuous.
Road Rage is a red Tracks because she's based on toy that was red Tracks. She's never not been red Tracks, in any toy or piece of media.
Same for Nova Storm (not toy, but character model), who wasn't even female until IDW retconned it after the Siege toy came out.
Slipstream was never just a recolor, her proportions are clearly different, you couldn't just take an old Animated Starscream toy, paint it purple and teal and be done.
>>
>>11760120
>no shuttle front in sight

>>
>>11760163

At the end of the day, people just want the toys to resemble what the character is like in their heads.
Nobody cares that Nova Storm, Road Rage and Strika are blocky fembots because they've always been blocky fembots.
Slipstream is a wild card because people have different ideas of her. To some, she's another seeker recolor, she doesn't need to look different nor should she. To others, she's a seeker but more feminine, she needs to look different even at the expense of the seeker aesthetic.

I still own the original and what I always wanted is a Sideways with heads that looked as cool as the anime designs. The new one manages to make those look even worse, the new minicons fucking suck. Less articulated, partsform and can't even be bothered to hide the head mode eyes. They changed the black one transformation so now the horns in head mode are completely wrong. Also the bike mode looks way worse with obvious hinges on the sides compared to the original. Sideways has terrible looking feet and fat lower arms that are completely innacurate and they also botched the faction change gimmick as it doesn't have a blank position for bike or minicon-less modes.
Yes, they added joints. That's good. But everything else is trash. Fuck that thing, that's not the Sideways I've been waiting for all this time.

The shit gimmick ruined the entire toy, he walked on flat clown shoes that sounded like they were scraping off every time you slide them, and he looked liked a cobbled together pile of junk. But hey you could shove a minicon on his head and make him look more retarded, 10/10 best toy in the universe.

I have several original figures, but I don't have rose-tinted glasses. They are not perfect and there is plenty to improve.
Several of the figures lack wrist articulation and have sideways gorilla elbows, obv no ankles, and despite some stellar deluxes, most still had nothing more than a neck swivel even if they didn't have gimmicky electronics preventing a balljoint.
Most of the Autobots had inaccurate weapons, Optimus gets neckfat if you put his facemask down, the size-accurate Bulkhead has a bunch of tacked on shit, Lugnut and Sentinel Prime are forever a midgets, there really isn't a perfect TFA Bumblebee, Ratchet and Blitzwing are just... Ass...
And that's without mentioning all the characters who never got figures to start with.

Ntm with current prices, I'll never buy the figures I don't own already from childhood (like Wreck-Gar, Samurai Prowl, Blurr, the jet twins, or Wing Optimus).

something I've noticed with modern hasbro editions of the older anime transformers designs is they often lack the same sense of gesture and dynamism in the sculpt's form. They just look stiffer and more awkward. With big convoy for example the legs have a slight curvature to them that's missing from the new version.

The animated figures are another example>>11760160

I've decided to do Breakaway first - he has fewer modes, and fewer things to address versus Basara Prime.
I'll start with the packaging - it's been a long, long time since I've seen a Transformers toy in a box like this. They posed him in the middle of kicking his ball, which is fun, and he's got two other pieces in there - part of his ball form, and the stand for you to perch him on.

He's got a decent range of motion in his legs, as well as a faux ab crunch that's part of his transformation - this lets him bring his knees pretty high up, which is exactly what you want for a soccer-bot. I'm a little disappointed with his elbows, though - you only get about 90° bending them forward. His wrists are balljoints, so they can move around pretty well, and his head has enough clearance to look up and down a bit.
His toes have pegs on them so you can stick his ball on one and make it look like he's kicking or balancing it; his feet also have peg holes under them, so he can attack to the blue stand in robot mode. He comes with no weapons (he's an athlete, not a soldier), but I suppose there's nothing stopping him from spiking his ball into an enemy Decepticon's face or kicking them with his cleats in a pinch.

Ball form. They tried to make his transformation a bit more interesting than what you'd expect - his entire chest piece with his arms has to spin around, and his feet fold up and tuck in kinda weirdly. Sadly, he's a partsformer - that piece that was separate in his box is needed to cover the hole where his feet go in, and it just clips onto his back when in robot mode. Still, there's something strangely pleasing about having him as a perfect little sphere once fully transformed.
Oh, his soccer ball actually opens up like a clamshell and pegs into the bottom of his base, so all of his pieces get to stay together.

won't pretend to know how these toys are designed. Compromises have to be made with it having 3 modes of transformation and with toy safety standard.

I can understand the low crotch; it probably has something to do with the Jet Convoy, but my beef is really with the black block of the chest.

The coloring and the how big it is, it does look like Jetfire is baring his man tits with the chest winglets opened and the gold nozzles on the side just merge with the front block. Like he is wearing a mid-section corset, those without the top part covering the breast and for jetfire's case it is now a man who is wearing it.
Had that block colored in white with black painted top would mitigate the look (I think)- but it would change the look of the shuttle somewhat.

Still, the low crotch would still be a problem. But at least we would only have 1 major visual flaw instead of 2.

Man, after finding Nexus today and looking at the combiner head in person and all I can think is he has a heck of a fat head compared to the previous 3 combiners. Guys, has any of you thought well on what weapons suit the best with Star Optimus Prime's unique blue blast effect? I'm pretty sure someone has to use it with the different Requiem Blasters in existence (the boxy laser pointer version included with Megatronus, and the upcoming Mini-Con Superweapon included with Armada Jetfire, but we have the former so far, so someone should try showing off that blast effect with a picture since I can't buy Transformers for being forkin' expensive).

Classics/Universe was positioned in a very different context with a somewhat different mission statement. The entire industry was vastly different in 2006, and Transformers reflected that even ignoring the movies being on the horizon (which is what Classics was an intended overture for). So no, I don't think CHUG was originally a mistake, but we're so far removed from that that the comparison is hardly warranted. Nothing lasts forever.

I mentioned this in the last thread too but these same people started coming in around prime wars and then an even bigger wave of them came in around COVID.
