>"There's a reason your custom models look like toys"
>"This windscreen piece makes your lego look like a lego set"
>"It looks blocky and simple"
Why do some mocfags have such a complex about the fact that their format is a toy? It's not even all or most mocfags but I've genuinely never seen people who do custom statues or action figures bitch about something being "too toyetic". People in the comments justifyably dig into him but it's just weird how often I see this mindset in the hobby.

What I expect:
>A Gollum buildable figure like Stitch and Dobby
>Atleast 4 sets based on the Hunt for Gollum movie from $25 to $100 price points
>Battle Packs based on the trilogy, like a Gondor and Orc battle pack or Eleves battle pack like Star Wars does
>A Smaug set done like Hungarian Horntail and upcoming Ender Dragon, basically a statue that moves its wings
>Atleast 4-5 LotR trilogy sets, keep in mind Rivendell is retiring next year I think so maybe they will do a smaller scale set
>All 18+ set will be now under LotR theme and not Icons, maybe they re-release some other 18+ sets without Icons set numbers and logo.

Made these 1:1455 scale ships loosely based on rebrickable designs. I'm really happy with them as I didn't have to order any parts for once. I have parts coming in the mail for a 1455 scale nebulon b frigate, CR90, GR-75, and a lancer frigate. Tempted to buy parts for an arquitens too but I've spent enough recently.
>>
>>11769931
Good shit, I like the how subtle the olive green and dark tan have been blended into the blays. Also good use of those printed window pieces like the other guy said, cool print but dragon masters was when the URPs started to really infest castle so they didn't get used well.
>>
>>11769696
He also said that large custom made elements limit flexibility to achieve better results. This is fact.

As for having a complex about their format being a toy. His goal is simple. Model making with bricks. You're here for the kids toy, not to craft a model. Same kit, different objective.
>>
I built another small ship this time making something for a space theme. I limited my part count in the hopes of coming up with a design that could be sold for under $10. This spaceship has a little over 40 pieces counting the mini figure so I have no reason to believe Lego couldn’t make something similar a an economic entry point for kids.

Lego already knows which one they are doing. the voting is all just a show to maintain hype

looks like at most it's going to be 2 minifigs. in another $200 set. hard pass. I'm only 5% curious about the finished thing, but it's almost guaranteed I won't care about it at all.

now if they throw in a minfig version of that hot anime witch magic girl or whatever she's called, then I might get a little bit more interested, but still not enough for $200. and that character is in none of those vote sets so that's not likely anyway

Hold on. Hold the fuck on. Would a child existing in this day and age understand what a phone booth is? Yes, I fucking know that's his original choice of costume changing location, but this isn't a set built for adults. Why the fuck would a child know what a fucking phone booth is?!

That's a phone booth in the picture. They used to have pay phones inside little glass cubes you could stand in, pay money, and make phone calls. In the earliest iterations of Superman, he would go into one of these booths, change into Superman from his Clark Kent clothes, and pop out. What I'm saying is, there are exactly 0 kids who know what a phone booth is. They haven't existed for decades.

Kids would know what they are from just seeing it in a show (or lego set) and just understanding the concept of a box with a phone in it lol

Fake fan spotted, Changeling is CANON
>Changeling is an alias used by several characters in the DC Universe. During his time as Changeling, Logan was a member of the Teen Titans.

Hello, /lg/. I've been getting back into MOC building recently, and I've been focusing on World War One aircraft. First I built a fun playscale Fokker Dr.1, and then I built a Sopwith Camel. This is my second attempt at one. I think it looks pretty good, especially with the dark green color, but after I finished building it I started wondering if I made it too big. What does /lg/ think? Too big? I'd rather not redesign it because I've already made instructions for it and don't want all that work to go to waste.

holy cow you just made Lego a bazillion dollars if they are smart enough to find that suggestion. they made the wanted posters for One Piece random, it sounds like something they have mechanisms in place to do.

imagine all the extra sets bought! people would buy the same set over and over to try and get the shiny! literal insanity. would be a fun show to watch

No anon the Moc is great and I like the size. If you wanted to be autistic about the scaling, look up the dimensions of the camel IRL and then compare it to the height of the minifigure. But that’s not necessary for lego because first off it’s a toy and second off minifigures can’t ever be in scale with humans because of their exaggerated proportions

Ok, how many sets will Lego make for both?

I say:
>Man of Tomorrow
1 big set, Brainiac ship
>The Batman Part II
Atleast 2 or 3 sets, but I wonder IF they do another batmobile because Pattison's Batmobile they release this March retires December 2027 so it will still be on shelves when Part II releases... and we don't know yet if he gets a new batmobile but I kinda doubt it.

Here are my expectations for DC in 2027:
>Lego will finally give DC a chance because they get two big films with Superman and Batman in the same year, and also the MCU only has Avengers Secret Wars coming, so they are free of Marvel sets. That is if they do not go beyond the Spider Verse sets, but I doubt they will do more than one set.

So the sets we get in 2027 are:
>A Man of Tomorrow Brainiac ship set like Anaon said.
>Two The Batman Part 2 sets, depending on what type of accessories Batman gets. There is a possibility he gets a third set that includes some building and a Batmobile. I also expect these sets to use the mini modular concept introduced in the Marvel sets.
>At least one Superman 2025 movie set and maybe one for the Supergirl 2026 movie, but chances are low for those.
>A D2C Fortress of Solitude set based on the 2025 film that has a lot of characters. >Maybe they include a small T craft if the Superman movie sets for retail will not include the T craft.
>>
Why don't Lego separate DC from Marvel? Designers keep saying both themes are still under the same theme called SUPERHEROES even though they retired the SUPERHEROES branding for years, so why don't Lego separate them? Different design teams, different budgets so they aren't beholden on the same budget and team.

>lions knight castle
>switch heads and you have a few female heads for peasants.
Im a little bit tired with factions when it comes to medieval lego. I would prefer more neutral torsos that you can minifigure moc with, it can be even in colors of said faction, but having every military figure wearing a tabar is just to samey for me. I know i can put an armour over it, but still, lego should include more torsos without an emblem.
Also Im curious /lg, how many of you buy 200dol sets and keep it as a model/do some minimal-medium rebuilds like changing some details, adding structure or hight? I dont think I let any set sit on my shelf more than 2-3y and some of them are becoming a moc after a dozen days from being build.
Lions castle is an superb example because in a span of last 3 years I did 2 mocs out of it, rebuilded it twice, one with a medium changes.

What about a cave man theme, you have warriors and hunters outfitted with bows, spears and clubs, some sets are cave fortresses and teepee villages, multiple factions that have different body tatoos/paint and have different animal companions like saber tooths, wooly mamoths and wolves and an eventual subtheme could be introducing dinosaurs.

Do we know exactly when development on the smart brick started? All themes since the mid 2000s have been multimedia focused, I can't help but wonder if lego decided to kill off generic themes thay couldn't as easily be adapted to other mediums in order to put as much attention and money into smart bricks with just how hard they have pushed them since release.
>>
>>11772179
it feels like they’re deliberately not using more generic themes in case a license comes along that fits it
like they don’t want to be deep into year 2 of a successful pirate theme if a Pirates of the Caribbean revival starts raking it in because then they’ll effectively be competing with themselves
>>
>>11772205
It seems like such a non-problem to me. Just do what Lego magazine used to do to cross-promote themes, create dioramas and comics with the licensed pirates interacting with the Lego Pirates, showing that they're compatible to play with one another.

And it feels like nobody showed up for the Galaxy Explorer classic space remake and the Blackton Renegade remake, since both of those could be had consistently for 50%-60% off. Hell, you can still find the Renegade at nearly every retailer for about 30% off.

Despite the fact that so many people claim to like the dedicated space stuff, it feels like it does terrible. They barely even throw Space a bone, even Castle and Pirates get treated better.

>>
>>11772386
afaik the galaxy explorer did ok and was seen pretty favourably
the issue with it may have been that lego just overproduced it, they were everywhere
the renegade is a weird one, i think a number of people didn't like it for whatever reason, although i personally like it
>>
>>11772386
I thought the galaxy explorer remake was well received. The blacktron invader was a GWP so they limited its accessiability and the renegade is just an awkward design in general and not as appealing to most people. We also have had a space cmf line but no castle or pirate cmf, unless you really want to argue dnd as a license covers for castle.
>>
>>11772408
Space getting a CMF series feels like more of them getting a bone thrown to them than anything. Castle and Pirates still get a lot of neat remakes/updates in recent years, like the El Dorado remake, a couple of 3-in-1 pirate ships, castle has had numerous 3-in-1 sets, and the Lion Knights castle which just retired, and both Castle and Pirates have had a bunch of GWPs/remakes of smaller sets, like Majisto's workshop, one of the forestmen hideouts, etc. And even though most people think they only kinda, sorta count, nearly every BLD series has one Castle or Pirates set....sometime both. The next series has Coconut Bay and the Duskmark Keep (or whatever.)
>>
>>11772422
Not all those options castle and pirates get are particularly great, especially in castle's case. Having GWPs walled by needing to justify spending more money then you may want is far from ideal and while the Forestmen hideout was at least considered a good set the Majisto set was pretty hated and extremely lazy with shit like no printing on Majisto's torso or anything in the interior. The Lion Knight Castle and BLD sets are fine and all but these are all like $250 to $400, buying one is a real investment for most people and not everyone wants to spend that kind of money or dedicate the space to large display.

filthy casual here. Is there a place to get bulk parts for building castles with? I know I can go to bricklink but it seems like you have to know somewhat in advance what you want.
And what I want is a fat sack of gray bricks to build with.
>>
>>11772514
The sad truth is that there's really no great option for doing so. You can try scavaging a bricks and minifigures, piecing stuff out via bricklink, or buying whatever is available as a parts pack. Might be useful to try building it in a digital builder first to get an idea of what you want to make and what it'll need.
>>
>>11772514
Your best bet is random facebook marketplace or ebay listings for buckets of assorted pieces. I know a few second-hand Lego stores do "bricks by the kilo" but don't know how common it is.
>>
>>11772514
Set up a saved search with all the specifics you want on ebay and have it notify you when a new listing shows up. That way you can get on a good deal before someone else does.

Like the others mentioned marketplace is a grabbag.
>>
>>11772514
just buy a bunch of horse knight castles and use the parts
>>
>>11772524
This probably seems like the best bet. The surplus bricks will inspire my imagination even if they aren't specifically Castle themed.
>>11772526
>>11772521
The issue is that I don't really know what I need beforehand. Half the fun comes from working with what you got and improvising. With ebay, I suppose I could cast a wide net and just have an alert for listings with lots of random parts, like you'd find on marketplace.
>>11772532

I support the marketplace suggestion for various reasons, but grey basic bricks will be rare even in lots with castle sets. You should try looking at Bricklink to get some grey bricks on top of your bulk finds. This will give you the pure mass of grey bricks you need but also miscellaneous parts that you wouldn't have thought to get on Bricklink.
Look for 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, etc bricks in either light gray or light bluish gray. Original light gray will be more expensive, but you may prefer it. Get some 1x3 and 1x4 arches too, they are pretty cheap. Plus 1x6x2 for doors. You will need a good amount of smaller bricks, but the longer ones will give you better value per stud. Also consider getting castle wall or corner panels, they will bring costs down if you don't mind how they look on the inside. I'm talking about those 4 or 5 wide ones with the arch windows in the middle. You could also get picrel or the 2 wide equivalent for very cheap, but they look even worse unless you double them up to make a 2 thick wall and hide the empty space.
Something you could do to save grey bricks and introduce some variety is use black and coloured pieces to make half-timber segments.
Other things you may want to get:
Some 2x2/2x4 45 degree slopes in red, black, blue, or whatever to make rooves. To save money you might be able to get some of those 6x8 slopes that are almost flat depending on what colour you want.
1x2/2x2 inverted slopes if you want overhangs on the battlements or elsewhere.
Regular slopes in grey, eg 2x2 for detailing crenellations or 2x2x3 for the base of walls.
Taller bricks, eg 1x2x2 or 1x2x5, even 1x6x5 or 2x4x3. The first two are quite common and cheap per stud.

Alternative option: get some Harry Potter sets and build a tan castle instead.
>>
>>11772620
Overall, just shop around. Find a big store on your continent (perhaps go to the page for 1x2 brick and filter by min qty 500 in grey, choose one with a low price) and check out their catalogue. You can filter by colour by putting the exact colour name in the search bar (eg light bluish gray) then click on the part categories (brick, brick arch, panel, slope, etc).

Suck it losers. I am so sick of Canadians shoving their elbows up over noise while ignoring the self inflicted problems we have as a country.
We had an election where 11 MPs were under investigation for taking foreign bribes. We didn't know which ones, so who knows if they were re-elected. But hey...Trump said a mean thing on twitter!
Now after the Liberal did not win a majority, they have bribed enough NDP and Cons to switch sides to give them one. How is anyone ok with that? Especially those who screech the loudest about how much they love the country. The floor crossing to majority is an absolute betrayal of our elections.
But hey...orange man bad right? Doesn't matter what happens up here as long as we can feel smug and better than Americans.
Ok I am done. I won't reply with any more off topic politics.

>>11772620
Thank you for that amazing reply. I took a screenshot it so it won't get lost. I checked ebay and there are some incomplete sets for sale close to me so I might pick them up for fodder and make an order of parts like how you described.

1. Check Facebook market place. Lots of boomers trying to get rid of their kid's stuff and adults trying to sell their toys. The prices tend to be pretty good too
2. Check a Bricks and Minifigs/second hamd store. You can essentially get a large some of exactly what you want though the prices aren't as good
3. Go out to yard sales. They'll have the best prices but the wares will usually be in less than stellar condition and you can't guarantee if a yard sale will even have legos at all.
4. Buy new. Least economical by far but there are many sets with gray pieces. Hell Star Wars is nothing but gray pieces. Not to mention the 3 in 1 castle set.

I don’t want my country annexed by the global hegemon, particularly while that hegemon isn’t capable of any sort of long term political, economic, military, etc. strategizing. None of your soirant is responsive to my position, as I don’t see how we’re facing anything like a binary choice between home-grown governance (however flawed) and subsumption into the US (which would fix inefficacy and corruption how?)
I don’t know what “cat” or “kitty” means.

>Hey we're not America!
It's amazing how fucking terrible the country is spinning out of control and yet its people are more concerned with Trump joking about annexing them rather than their Government forcing Euthanasia, the Immigrant population increasing to 15% of their population in less than 10 years, or the fact their government keeps taking away more and more of their freedoms. Canada sucks.

By coming up with original ideas rather than adapting it as close as possible. Similar to what LEGO did with the LEGO Batman Movie or more recently Rebuild the Galaxy. They could also create a series based within Star Wars with original characters and ideas. It would be so refreshing but it probably will not happen.

Anon China and India own your nation. You are literally being replaced while your healthcare system is killing people it can't afford to keep to make up for the insane immigration Canada is seeing. Canada is already on the road to being changed into a completely different nation. Trump is the least of your concerns. The fact you care more about Trump the. Your domestic policy is actually sad. You have no real pride as a Canadian. You're just proud you aren't American. That's not a culture, that's literally letting another nation define you.
>>

For the moment, I’d sooner be occupied and run by China than the US inasmuch as China at least exhibits some interest in running a nation (thinking in centuries, as the cliche goes, as opposed to not at all).
The whole MAID thing is a complete bugaboo, and hysteria around it is drummed up by repeating the same four or five stories of overreach endlessly.
And I don’t see how I’ve given any indication of indifference to Canada’s flaws. I could agree (and maybe in fact I do) with any criticism you might have of this or that domestic policy, but it still wouldn’t follow that aping the US (or being absorbed into it) is any solution. Thats all I’ve said, which has only ever been directly responsive to the other user (the one who without any encouragement raised the figure of Trump, you should note).

No chinaman ever called us the 35th division, and besides, I’m wealthy and not-Muslim enough get around the worst excesses of China’s human rights abuses.
But apart from that, your retarded administration is actively alienating allies and pushing them into normalizing relations with China. And what’s worse, we’ve discovered there are no safeguards against your country lashing out in completely unpredictable and self-destructive ways (whereas China is, at least, governed by predicable, rational self-interest). If you’re genuinely worried about China, you should be more concerned than I am about the US abdicating its role as global hegemon.

Thoughts on the smilely? Maybe a controversal opinion but I really wish lego had stuck to it as a universal format to be modified like they did from the early to late 90s. The female version could have used a rework though, much more constraining compared to the "male" face.

if you don't mind third party bricks, amazon has any brick you want in bulk
occasionally, they even have official Lego bricks in bulk
right now I've found:
official lego, 200 white 2x4 bricks for $50
third party, 100 gray 2x4 bricks for $10
third party, 500 gray 2x4 bricks for $35
just put in the lego part number and the color you want into the search bar and you'll get a ton of third party results

I want to get the Neuschwanstein set but i dont know if i should get the Lego version or the BlueBrixx one
Price was the Blue Brix one is signicicanlty better its also 250 but has 9000 pices compared to the lego one but BlueBrixx always has some minor issues
I bought the Roman Domus from them and liked it but the quality of the stones isnt as good as in lego
The clutch power isnt as good and at parts i had to use plastic glue to get them to hold the plates are a bit askew and the bricks are sometims a bit scratched up
Its nothing major and for the price i really cant complain
So to the people who have bought one of those sets which do you recomend?
Should i get the lego one or the Blue Brixx
