I tried sorting my light grey bricks into old grey and bluish grey piles, but I can’t tell if I actually managed that or if I just ended up sorting by amount of yellowing. Should I even bother separating the light greys?
>>
Watching LEGO City builders on Youtube is so infuriating. All they do is to put modular buildings side by side, slap a road in front of it and call it a day. I mean fine, but thats like 1% of what you can do with a City. Most of the time when I see a set, it serves as inspiration for what else to build next and coming up with more and more ideas along the way. Picrel is from the LEGO House and a positive example on how to do City builds.
>>
>>11850190
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVbEerGjUpU closest I have seen for “creativity” that I can remember is some guy building shit outta marsk blue and having to figure out how to do so without bankrupting himself, also thats a fuckass long car
>>
>>11850190
That's a pretty neat city but it still feels soulless because it's lacking zaniness (think of the town levels in Katamari games where there's wacky shit going on everywhere you look). If you're not going to do silly shit with minifigs you might as well just omit them from the build entirely.

Like what color is the middle piece here? Old grey or bley?
>>
>>11850195
That was a fun watch. I tink being limited adds to the creativity. The exposed studs gives it a nice touch. Might sub to his channel.
>>
>>11850209
That piece didn't exist until they switched over, so dark blay.
I'd say that's honestly the easier metric, any post-2003 piece can go right in the bley box.

>>11850228
But it’s light grey, and it says 2002 right on it. I guess the date is helpful though, thanks.
>>
>>11850265
The piece may have been designed in 2002, but it wasn't first (barely) used until 2004 and only saw widespread use starting in 2005.
I mean I guess if you're a zoomoid who doesn't remember the switchover tough luck, but you should be able to look at a piece and at least have a rough impression of what side of grey it debuted on.
>>
>>11850265
>>11850273
I should also say that, in the worst case scenario, just BL the piece and see if it actually came in old grey/dark gray.
>>
>>11850189
I recently had the same problem with light gray and light bluish gray, especially for axles and bushings, it's really hard to tell if it's just light bluish gray that has been yellowed, or old gray

Got that last bag finished up, her are the highlights. That style of cherrypicker is completely new to me, and that signpost is a first for my collection. Interested if anyone has info on that red brick with the understuds on the side.

Any bonkle fans happen to know if that silver claw is actually Lego? I see no stamps and the nub isn't sized for standard bricks, but I know Bionicle had some odd pieces.

Came in some old space sets. Specifically, M-tron for that color.

>Came in some old space sets. Specifically, M-tron for that color.
Yeah, I have a LOT of those from 1990s Space sets. Most of mine are light gray. I also have a bunch of the counterparts where the sides are covered in studs (mostly in black).
>>
>>11850307
It did, one of them was much more yellow than others so that went in the old grey pile and the others in the blue grey pile. I guess the worst case is I have to check how much it contrasts with other pieces whenever I build something

since I was a child I dreamed of official Star Trek Lego. it's finally real, and I cannot afford it. my soul hurts. I want it so much, yet I cannot internally justify the high cost. what odd torture. surely I can spend my hard-earned money on something like this. but... it's so much money! how can I claim to be a fan, and not make this sacrifice? do I insult myself by not purchasing it? am I not the fan I thought I was? tears as I doubt myself. resentment for this Lego thing I also love, who now torment me so. and more internal shame as I realize it's just a toy, and I'm a grown man, and have such silly sad feelings over it. much like those TV shows which flaunt giant mansions and yachts, it's simply not for me. be happy it exists, and other people enjoy them.

extreme irony is... I did.

cobbling together budget-crew was the most fun I had with my Lego in a long time. I no longer care so much about autistic accuracy. I've said here before my bit about how Lego constantly re-makes the X-Wing, and each time Lego does it, it makes your own X-Wing more and more valid, it doesn't NEED to be muh-official-Lego-version.

it's LEGO you can use your imagination, surprise, the solution was there all along
>>
>>11850190
One thing I dont like about many city builders is that they make cars and road lanes only 6 studs wide. I dont CARE what kind of math you use, normal cars should fit TWO people side by side so so should lego cars. thats why you should use 8, but preferably 7, stud wide cars.

That's my ted talk.

more tears of frustration
$200 is too much, too
I will not be getting this one, either
even though I desperately want it

I might have cried, and spent $150. even $150 is a lot to spend on a toy, but I feel like that's my 100% limit. at $150 it would still need to have ALL the figures (like, at least 8 Minifigs) not only 3. I'm not spending $150 on 3 Minifigs (I want Zelda sets, too, and have not gotten any) and $150 would still make me feel immense guilt and regret for the privilege of th-thanking Lego for offering me the chance to give them a lot of money. it would still feel like a virtual mugging.

maybe Lego will eventually make a $50 Trek set with a couple of figures? (everybody in the room laughs hysterically. n-no, I was serious. they laugh harder)

Lego doesn't really cater any of these Icon sets to casual or moderate fans anymore. The entry point on all this shit is probably an average of about $300 at this point, so they are catering to the AFOLs who have an entire basement of floor to ceiling shelves of display sets, and then the rest of the basement is their "Lego city" that they have probably spent tens of thousands of dollars on, so another $300, $400, $500 set is a drop in the bucket.

Most of the time they could release these GWPs as little sets on their own as $20-$30 sets, but they either set like $200 thresholds, or require you to buy a $500 set during the first week it is available, or you're buying like a 200 piece set with 2 minifigures for $150 on eBay.

They should put out at least one or two small sets when they get a big new license. They obviously aren't going to do a full theme for every IP they get their hands on, but a couple small sets in a smaller price bracket would be nice.
>>
>>11851058
>I dunno what you talk about 3 minifigs man.
I wasn't saying Trek, more general Thing-I-Wanted like, the Zelda sets where Lego thinks 3 Minifigs is enough for $150.

if I'm setting my spend-limit at $150, the set still has to hit value-limits, too. Sure some Things might require less Minifigs. Like, and A-Team set needs only 5 Minifigs (please toss in the girl character, Lego! and maybe a couple of generic villain henchman? but the 5 for sure. maybe even the Spanish guy they had in the later episodes, too)

I've never done "discounts" on Lego outside of Target/Walmart clearance luck. for Trek I might try and figure it out. what do I check Amazon constantly or something? I'm being snarky, I'll ask Google what to do...
>>
>>11850941
Star Trek will probably get more sets under Icons. Maybe it will evolve into a separate theme since LotR is rumoured to branch out of Icons fall 2027 when they do the new movie sets. Simpsons is also rumoured to branch out. We also got Spongebob now too. We might see a midi scale starship collection for star trek in the near future, maybe minifigure packs too. Hell, include minifigs with the ships to separate it from star wars.
>>
>>11851068
>the Zelda sets where Lego thinks 3 Minifigs is enough for $150.

That sets $130. And it is also widely available now, at places like Target and Walmart so it is only a matter of time before one or the other puts it on sale or clearance, or there is some other way to get it for cheaper.

Speaking of Citytron, kinda wish I could find someone selling this abomination separated by individual bag. I feel like my collection is incomplete without the spaceship and launch pad (bag 16 I think?), although neither are actually anything all that special, but obviously I'm not forking over 210 bones for it even if I did want the rest of it.

Finally, someone understands. I cannot deny the sovlful look of 4 stud wide cars from the late 90s but personally for my own builds I won't accept cars that don't accommodate 2 figs side by side. The absolute minimum for a baseplate is 6 but then the sides will protrude slightly to make space for minifig arms. Add side mirrors and you have a total width of 8.
>>
>>11851402
6 wide is kino but you’re right the mirrors do make it 8.
This Harry Potter crap is decent with the way they did the doors.

after Lego sells enough $300 ridiculously-huge pokeball sets, and then $150 huge sets, and then whoa-only-$100 sets, and then....

eventually Pikachu will get a polybag. maybe 12 years from now.

but you are absolutely correct that this is what people expect, and Lego bullies them into $300 instead

The problem with the doors is that they are often too tall or too short desu. Actually your example HP set is preferable in terms of size compared to the gigantic sneedchampions sets.

Did some mods to my sea serpent. Feel free to copy any ideas you like (the dragon is from the chocolatier CMF)! I'm not concerned with keeping it similar to the OG Sea Serpent, which is why I raised the railing to better suit minifig display. Speaking of gingerbread, I was deeply relieved to find out that the gingerbread Vader doesn't have an actual head underneath, just a blank head of the same colour. The "front" end doesn't really serve a purpose when it's actually on the side of the ship but unlike Lego themselves I'd prefer that these be actually usable for a base layout that isn't a straight fucking line, so these can double as an intersection.
Height from the ground should also match other official modules, obviously.

Oh, yes, doors, but not really. They're openable/removable when the roof is off but basically I didn't want to do what Lego did where either the airlock is open to space when you don't put a cap piece on the outside or it's just a straight-up wall.

you are correct. I apologize for using Trek as the reference.

I was trying to say that the accurate Minifigs are 90% of the way to making something look like it's real Lego. sure there is muh-official-model but Lego has re-done the Star Wars Landspeeder like 12 times already and I'm pretty sure your own Landspeeder is going to be unrecognizable as a lame not-official-Lego model.

if you build a Shrek wagon and put the CMF Shrek in it, it will still look pretty cool. (sorry you have to build the wagon yourself) and lots of other things need more-accurate Minifigs, but you're right, some things not as much

You are entirely correct. It is legitimately shocking. I feel like this should have been the one of the easier CMFs to get right. And they found a way to ruin it. Easily the worst decisions are the custom mold heads for Shrek and Fiona who really don’t have freak heads. Why don’t they have regular minifigure heads? Shrek should have the ability to wear a minifigure knight helmet. If they needed the ears (they don’t) then give them “hairpieces”.
>>
>>11854115
I knew there was a reason a Puss was thrown in that awful statueslop set. Merlin is indeed the worst possible choice, since the rest of the characters were from the first 2 movies. Since the obvious and funny troon joke with Doris would never happen, they should have made the 'float' character Monsieur Hood or the Headless Horseman or someone else from the first 2 movies. Thelonious and Gingy are the only ones I'm interested in, though Farquaad/Charming have great parts for medieval figures.

Even the lowest knight's meagre retinue lends strength to our battle. Do homage to thy lord and a share in the greater glory and spoils of our just crusade be thine.
>>
Isn't that DK arcade coming out August 1st? I've seen people build the set already and its still not even on their website. I wanna mald at its CAD price.
>>
>>11854608
I think I've only ever seen one of the boxes ripped open once or twice, and it was only like a single box open. The bigger issue is even finding this wave to begin with. I've managed to complete the full set, but I think I've only seen a fresh case once or twice, and probably only seen any remnants maybe 6 or so times.

I was clearly referring to the behavior around it, If you looked at the image that I posted and correlated it with what I said, you have understood that. It's called context clues, and you've learned it in kindergarten.
>>
Lol, how much does it cost to just buy the figure on ebay or bricklink? Can't be worse than going through the hassle of hunting in a retail store.
>>
>>11854608
>>11854743
I've only ever found one store where the a single CMF box had been ripped open and even then it was hidden over in the hot wheels section. The real issue is the fucking boxes being in stock to begin with and even when they are it's usually shelf warmer figures. The amount of Boba Tea, Chocolatiers, and Soccer Players I've found left is insane. It took me nearly a month to even find series 29 after it released and another month and a half to get all the figures I wanted.
>Hur dur anecdote
Buddy just to get the CMFs I wanted I had to go to 4 seperate Walmarts and 3 seperate Targets. That should be a large enough sample size to tell you that the insane shit in your post is rare as shit if the only thing I managed to see was one single opened cmf box among 7 stores in a 30 mile radius.

Finally got that extremely dirty bulk batch cleaned and sorted, here are the highlights. Biggest pain in the ass to sort, but it also had some of the coolest pieces so far. Personal favorites are the card pieces, tri-fighter dome, and a monorail car section. Also, this is the first time I've seen that crane scoop with an intact spring.

>>
>>11857886
>plus it has the added benefit of removing the amount of classic spacemen in rotation since guys who collect those are usually fags
removing some from the supply makes them MORE valuable. you would be increasing their value by doing this. they may not be able to get them, but if they already have them, they'd be worth more
>>
>>11857918
so I SHOULD buy them is what you are counselling
>>
>>11857950
You are likely gonna crack that shit if you switch the arms around, just get the blank torso so you don’t have to deal with that as soon due to chinesium plastic
>>
>>11857950
if your intent is to make less available, yes, buy them

if your intent is to make them less valuable, don't buy them

for example, if YOU bought every last one of them, nobody else would have any, or be able to get any. but... that one nerd who did have one, could charge Infinity money for that one, and you have rewarded that one nerd for his effort to hoard it

this is all nonsense, there's no way you could buy so many as to effect the price in either direction. but it's a silly thing to debate, so I did lol

I have no idea as far as the base goes what to even do with this pod. You can't actually open it without all the veg dying, and it's too big to get inside through any of the airlocks.

Although speaking of domes, they didn't think things through way back when they changed dome pieces from a hinge to a clickjoint, so now if you just put it flat on a clickjoint plate there's always that half plate of space for it to decompress through. Thank fuck the pets have their own spacesuits.
Avoided it with my teal and coral spaceship at least, but the base sets it was made from all blatantly put it this way as well and give no fucks. It's annoying.
