Is collecting the lego speed champions range worth the money? By that I mean are they fun and cool, not as a serious investment because it's lego.

I don't have the space for those big lego technic and creator cars and they're just too goddamn expensive.
>>
>>11885023

>Um, where are her breasts?
in the same alternate dimension as Dr. Beverly Crusher's

[sarcasm mode] you see, leaving those breast marks off of the character is, in fact, better for MOCs. since you can now use that pink torso for a male character. with a thin waist. if the breast lines were there, it would be half as useful. for example, Dr. Crusher is the only character with a blue TNG uniform, and should have had those breast lines. they were fine using breast lines on Troi. BUT... you need the generic torso in a $400 set, y'know... for MOCs. instead of making the character accurate to itself, Lego chooses to make the torsos more-usable... for MOCs. besides, kids don't care about breast lines, only the adults care, and they were clearly selling the $400 Star Trek set to kids. besides, we all know who Peach is, and you can imagine those breast lines on her if you want. oh yeah, and don't forget to feel shame properly, you pervert, for wanting breasts on tiny plastic figures. gross. [end sarcasm mode]

>Why did she need a custom molded head what the fuck?
Mario figures with regular-minifig heads would have contrasted too much with Sonic sets? Lego lacks design standards, even among their own sets.

they re-did Woody with a regular head. the probably-true answer is they molded the Mario heads now, so they can sell them, and... later in a few years, they will make minifig-head Mario sets, and sell those to you, too. that way they get double your money
>>
>the mario sets look cool and are affordable

what the hell is happening
>>
I genuinely want to know what Lego was thinking. I have wanted Lego Mario ever since I was a kid, and Lego City Undercover made me want it more, but when we finally get it, it's ugly shartbrick slop.
I've heard rumours that it was Nintendo forcing the gimmick onto Lego, I'd believe it, nu-Nintendo is genuinely scummy and greedy.
Unlike Sonic they went out of gate swinging, most of the major characters in the first wave, and variants like boxers (unfortunately not featuring Mario's iconic nipples) and fire Mario and Luigi, unlike Sonic which seemed to ignore outfits and power ups outside of Super Sonic and Shadow.
I want all of the figures so I can make a Super Smash Bros diorama.
>>
>>11885128
none of these sets support smart bricks
>>
>>11885128

>>
>>11885092
speed champions imo are some of the best value sets currently available, if you are into cars definitely get them, they are way more affordable compared to other themes and have great builds. the only downside is a lot of cars have a lot of stickers

How much have you guys spent in total on bricklink? I just started this year and I think I'm already nearing $2K USD
>>
>>11885139
$2000 on individual Lego pieces

b-but if you do the math, if you were buying the actual sets, to get the same pieces, you would have spent $30,000. sure, you'd also have a ton of extra pieces, in order to have gotten the few you actually wanted

what a deal! only $2000 instead of $30,000!
the fact that Lego sold you a bucket of plastic for $2000 is not noticed at all...

in that case why not just make a 1x2 brick shaped cutout in him , like they do with horse. Then have a brick build solution as a saddle. Or scale Yoshi up a bit so he doesn't have such bizarre proportions. His head looks way too small for his body and his saddle is massive.

>>11885156
I don't get the scaling either, Mario should have mid legs Luigi should have standard legs and Peach should have the giant dress piece from that one female giant from Harry Potter and if Lego ever made Waluigi, he should use the Woody/Avatar arms and legs.

The idea sonic and animal crossing died so mario can inherit their budget is crazy to me, aren't lego like $6 billion in profits every year? Every theme should have a big budget. Killing off sonic makes no sense when it will be even more relevant with sonic 4 and shadow movie and sonic 5 is in the works. We also get shadow knight. Like wtf lego, they better take a hiatus and return big with sonic. Like wtf is lego doing exactly? Sonic is a japan ip so it should be a big part of the japan initiative lego starts in 2027...

What license is yet to get Lego Theme ?
We already got Anime, Video Game heck even Sport Lego Theme based on official license.
The only thing that can be even more ridiculous than Lego Dragon Ball is if they make set based off TADC or one of other indie animated shows

Does anyone have any experience on building partially off the table? You can tell by the difference between Lego Star Wars set wave from 2016 compared to Lego Star Wars set wave from 2020

No, humanoid Yoshi sucks ass so it's good he's not a regular minifig. The problem however is that there was no need to make him have a rideable feature because it only makes him look weirdly stocky and simple when he should have looked like a Jurassic Park dino or Rex from Toy Story. Oh well, maybe it will take some getting used to because he looks good in the front.

I guess LEGO finally found the footage where he said that he doesn't like or care about lego anymore and thought he would become some kind of famous director of a movie he either abandoned or is still working on. Then he got a reality check shortly after those statements, that doing LEGO reviews was his whole income and quickly became enthousiastic about reviewing LEGO sets again to fuel his junkfood addiction.

someone at Lego has the idea that...
YOU HAVE TOO MANY MINIFIGS
(whether or not that is true)

if you buy a couple of sets, then a couple more, month after month, year after year. you should have hundreds of characters. you don't need any more. just a few in each set is good. (that's sarcasm if you couldn't tell) don't you already have a hundred Stormtroopers? why would you think we need to include TWO in a new set? you spent like $700 on that Lords of the Rings toilet bowl castle, and we put FOUR soldiers in it! FOUR!!!! c'mon, 4 is enough.

I'm a vintagefag so looking at modern licensed shit never leaves me impressed but I feel like I'm going crazy here, does no one else think the heads on the Mario minifigs look awful? I've seen nothing but positive reception to them and while the print quality is definitely impressive I find the actual molds comically ugly on the minifig torso. When doing their own original character designs I think lego is actually really good about creating alternate head molds that look fine on minifig bodies but with licensed stuff where they have to adapt something to the format I think it comes out ugly as fuck in like 95% of cases.
>>
>>11885570
It's probably pretty cheap to buy them now.
>>
>>11885747
I think they should have just been standard minifig heads but they look fine to me. Then again I also think the only issue with the electronic Mario sets is the price tag and I think brickbuilt things are good so I'm clearly not on the same wavelength as most /toy/ posters.

That set pictured here >>11885654 probably came out in the range of like, 12-14 years ago already. And it was something like $30 at that time. These days, you're lucky to get two, maybe three minifigures in a set that costs that much.

They've lost the fucking plot with Star Wars battle packs too, since the "cheapest" ones are now almost $25 (maybe $30, depending on what that new Endor battle pack includes) and they even charge up to $45 for a battle pack that has all of 4 minifigures and maybe two little side builds.

Speed Champions is secretly the best Lego theme ever. [blog post explaining why removed]

$28 is honestly not toooo much money, especially for a Lego set these days. you'll probably enjoy "the build" and they do make neat little display pieces. when you are "done" with it they can be tossed in ziplock bags for storage and later getting-back-outs.

I would easily spend $200 on a playscale Venator or Executor in the same vein as the 2024 Star Destroyer, but what is the point of an $800 gray slab? For me it was this guy. I always liked the two scouting crafts and the engine in the back you can pull out to change the crystals. No idea what "bug" it's suppose to be so kind of weird as an insectoids set but I still think it's a solid ship.

It would be even more in point if the koopas and Bowser had orange or keetorange skin, but I think that's way too tied to old art and would look weird with modern proportions.

These are great. I'm a big fan of the theme but have never been able to get into doing any mocs for it as the clash in old and new dark greys always bothers me too much. Lot of critical elements like the legs or the printed slopes bother me with the new dark grey.

I feel that with the grey and bley clash but have justified it in my universe as it's a post-apoc setting, can blame the colour differences on wear and tear. Definitely easier to work with other factions that avoid grey altogether though, heh.

Officially he's blue, and the Yoshi is blue too. If you want an official Periwinkle Koopa you'll have to harass shiggy about it. The good news is that a blue shell is essentially inevitable due to the Mario Kart subtheme, though you might have to settle for one with spikes on.

With the collapse of their hive worlds and colonies devolving into factional warfare between pretenders to the throne, gotta get by somehow in the chaos. Plenty of folks both respectable and otherwise looking to solve their own particular problems; and often the solution to those problems is a simple application of energized violence.

I don't know why, but I just couldn't really get into the Insectoid theme. I think part of it is, by the time it came out, I was already 15 or 16 and in highschool, so it came out right at that age for me that toys were starting to become "uncool." I also didn't like their color scheme at all compared to basically every other space theme that came before it.

Most space themes seemed to follow a pretty standard formula of one usually lighter color, one darker color, a third color for accents, and then a neon color to pop against the other colors. Insectoids was just dark grey, dark blue, dark green, black, and then neon green.

As I've gotten older, I actually kind of appreciate the lore they were going for for them, sort of making them a continuation of UFO guys hiding amongst bugs trying to not get detected, but I can't say the theme overall has grown on me too much more since then. I did get a couple of the smaller sets back then in the late '90s, just because they had some cool unique pieces that didn't really appear anywhere else.

I honestly kind of wish they had maybe used these guys in the 2013 Galaxy Squad theme against the buggoid aliens. Even if it was just a reference, like a single Zotaxian minifigure tucked away in one of the buggoid pods or somewhere hidden in a chamber in one of their hives.

Now that it's over, Sonic was pretty shit. Not counting characters we never got, you think that Lego would have dipped into alt costumes instead of *Sonic and Tails but a slightly different expression*, no Riders costumes, No SA2 alts, not even a classic wave. That would have been cool. Animal Crossing and Mario have alt costumes, why not Sonic?
>>11886897
It bothers me they went out their way to ignore vehicles and locations that would make good sets. Imagine if Sonic had UCS sets, just slightly alter the Death Star to make a Death Egg or a Space Colony Ark set and include plenty of minifigures or a giant Egg Carrier set, instead we need to give Knuckles a mech, Sonic an RV and Shadow a mech.

Thanks to this autism chart I'm reminded of the Conkdor, and itself reminds me how much Lego and Mario have in common with how easy their design language is to read in the way very distint things are repeated. I mean this by how its shell is just like the spiny and that tells you already you can't jump there. It's the same in how you can understand new Lego molds because of something that's clearly a stud or a bar clip.

>>11886662
I think Toad hits somewhat of a minifig uncanny valley because his head already looks similar to a minifig's. As much as I would have wanted him to have such common head with a mushroom hat, it would have looked weird next to Mario or Peach's moulds

Really just a tossup on what to build huh, anyways any advice for drying lego?
>>
>>11887603
I just spread it on a towel and wait. Also move it around once in a while to move the water droplets stuck in deeper bricks.
>>
>>11887603
What >>11887611 said. I give them a shake into a bucket first (like a jerking 'peck' motion) to get most of the water out of the inside of a brick first, especially pieces with tubes because water likes to stick in those and not evaporate. Then when I put them on the towel, I make sure that any interior cavity is not closed by the towel, so the moisture in there is exposed to the air. So basic bricks go studs-down or sideways, minifig torsos lie on their backs or front, plates and tiles go upside down. It's not possible to position perfectly for all pieces (eg jumper plates) so you may need to flip some over halfway through.
If it's cold, you could speed up the drying with a space heater or hair dryer (from a distance to not blow them everywhere).

why the fuck does the super star destroyer need to be 8000 fucking pieces and $800?

The midi scale one is fine, these large scale ships don't need to be so fucking big it's ridiculous, almost $1,000 for a fucking set that could be a couple hundred bucks and still look better and take up way less space. Who the fuck even has space to display all these fuckhueg sets?

This is why I actually like the midi scale sets and think there should be way more of them. They look fine, the scale is much better and you can actually display a lot of them.
>>
>>11887696
Star Wars line pretty much only exists at this point for them to one-up previous versions of sets. Each new version is higher piece count, higher price, more this, more that. Rumor going around is that the new UCS Millennium Falcon that comes out next year is going to be in the $1000-$1200 price range, because it is supposed to be bigger than the current one, have more of an interior, and have a stand. Once again, one-upping the current one.

I also saw a video lately that people suspect the huge sets don't necessarily need to sell that well, as they are literally just a marketing gimmick to get people talking and news/toy outlets generating buzz that "Lego made a big new thing, didn't you hear? It is even BIGGERER than the last BIG thing they did!!"

>I also saw a video lately that people suspect the huge sets don't necessarily need to sell that well,
there are roughly 1000 The Lego Stores
if each store only sells ONE $1000 set, that's a million bucks.

how much money does it cost to design, produce, ship, etc... 1000 of the same sets? I don't know, but it's probably a lot less than 1 million dollars. and that's only if each store sells 1 of 'em. there's probably on average, at least 5 rich idiots per store. maybe as many as 20 in some areas. (look at that $650 Pokemon pre-sale numbers that leaked!)

I bet, at this point, Lego sees all sets less than $200 as pointless give-aways, like when the drug dealer gives you that first hit for free to get you hooked. almost like a charity. get the kids hooked, they will grow up to buy $1000 of Grey Bricks. Lego probably makes 90% of its profits from those $X00 sets

You post this all the time, and that's great and all, but they are still making more money by selling thousands upon thousands of $20, $30, $50 or even $100 sets. They'll make money off those $1000 sets, sure, but the bigger plan is to draw more attention to themselves as a whole.

Even if we took your example and made it crazy and said 10 people each bought that $1000 set, at each of those 1000 locations, that's $10 million, and Lego is in the business of making billions. They make money hand-over-fist, and they literally JUST reported yet another massive profit increase so far this year.

Mario did a pretty cool job of making up random bullshit. There's so many settings in Sonic and as far as I can tell the only thing that got anything in sets was a teeny tiny computer for Shadow and Green Hill like areas. There was stuff from other levels but nothing actually part of the set besides characters. Like the biolizard was just the lizard. Missed opportunity.

Surfing Mario has random shit but it's a Odyssey outfit, a crab from the OG Mario Bros and Mario Kart and a little cheap cheap beach that that kinda fits Mario kart or whatever
>>
How do you feel about the "conflict in a box" design philosophy of sets since around 04 or so? I see the appeal for younger audiences, but as you get older I feel like the limitation of "both factions need to be represented" makes a lot of sets feel half assed as you either get what feels like two compromised sets or, in better cases, one good set and an absolute afterthought of a side build for the other faction. I grew up with the brand during 2006 to 2011 but find myself not returning to a lot if sets from this period as they usually don't look good to me, the prior approach of mostly just having a main model in a given set and maybe some smaller vehicles that interact with it for flagship sets is a lot nicer as I've come back to the hobby.

Yeah but it the minority. You look at 80s and 90s sets and they were usually a main model or, in the case of city, there was a base model designed around smaller but still compleye feeling models. In that set both the wall fortication and the ram feel like complete builds.

They don't really do it much anymore, outside of like Star Wars and Ninjago. In Star Wars they generally don't care since its usually Storm Troopers and Rebel troopers, or Clones and Droids, and they're all army building all of those anyway, and Ninjago is predominantly for kids and it is a way for them them to get good guys and bad guys all at once.

I legit don't get why they have to retire the theme, make it even smart play if you have to keep it alive

Why are they retiring it? Did Sonic flop?

Nintendo demanded Sonic sets retire for the Mario relaunch.

>No cars for Tails, Amy, Rouge, Shadow, or Metal Sonic.
At least move the theme to Speed Champions.

That's the most bizarre one because lego designers LOVE their vehicleshit and almost always turn 90% of every single line into it but despite there being aSonic racing game out now they just made two entire sets while half of the numario line is in fact mario kart sets?

is the head this one with the eyebrows and moustache erased? It's quite delightful, I with lego made more neutral faces. They look especially great in the classic style.

>Where in the fuck could I hide a giant lego box from my kids? Until Christmas
if you are buying giant Lego boxes for your children for Xmas, you must have a huge mansion. just pick a random closet from your 50 closets. or the trunk of one of your 20 cars. then all you have to do is hide the keys to that car. keys are a lot smaller to hide. or just hide them at the actual store, by not buying it, until actual Xmas.

hide them at your buddy's house. make sure they are not beyond the temptation or forgetfulness to claim it as their own. (did I buy this? why else would it be in my closet?!)

Genuinely one of the most overpriced sets Lego has ever made. No figs? Also by the look of the studs it isn't even that big.

>>11887877
Does it fit inside a suitcase?

It's kinda crazy how many people the Zionist Machine tricked into joining Brickler.
>>

Got two of them but need to put them together and then mix and match with the other two technic sets I got for parts tinkering
