Speaking of stories, an idea for a new one crossed my mind this evening. Maybe I'll write it out.

It's an idea I had for a sci-fi story set on a distant planet that's a colony of Earth's interstellar empire. The colony is relatively new, and so with much fanfare they receive an administrative investigator from the Earth government to look things over and see how they're doing in person. Perhaps because faster-than-light communications aren't always reliable and the Earth government wants a firsthand, in-person account.

Anyway, the colonial government receives the investigator, and she's this colossally, absurdly fat woman. Half a ton at least. She doesn't walk on her own but gets around with a harness of four robotic legs, a bit similar to Zim's backpack from Invader Zim.

The story would basically be the investigator having a look at key aspects of the colonial administration, all while the administration's own representatives tag along with her and basically gawk at this colossal blob of a woman. I would probably put her into various size-and girth-related incidents throughout the story's runtime, highlighting her immensity and the effects it has on just her sheer existence and presence in a place. I'd probably throw in some slob elements, some bodily functions most likely, and play up the contrast between the investigator who sees it as no big deal and the representatives who are very put off. Naturally we'd probably have a meal scene where this behemoth shows us how much she can eat.

We'd gradually also learn that well over half the population of Earth is this level of obese at this point, and Earth is basically a hedonist's paradise fueled by the wealth of its empire in the stars.

Just an idea I've had, but I find myself liking the idea of it.

It is such a beautiful moment, it almost seems like a scene that came from the end of the movie. Nick seems so unsure of himself, but he looks back at his reflection and the tuxedo that Judy got specifically for him. It's almost as if he realizes that he was so insecure with himself and his accomplishments until he saw that he is really there, and he has someone there to back him up.

At that moment, he felt happy to finally have found a place in the world that's worth being proud of, and of course the scene following this shows the person he admires the most at that moment. His ultimate motivation piece, and the bunny who he would risk everything for by the end of the movie. It's a small moment, but I think this scene is just done perfectly to show that Nick believes in himself thanks to the help of Judy. Also I just like to imagine he's remembering his mom in that scene, someone he can make proud the same way he made Judy proud.

It made me so happy reading that and seeing someone else get it, thank you. It's resonated with me both as a piece of filmmaking and also on a personal level every single time I've watched this film. Little moments like this are what I love about movies and it always make me so happy to see them.

It's like I feel proud both of and for Nick for everything he and Judy have accomplished together and how much better he is for having her in his life. The whole moment is only on screen for maybe like, 10 seconds and yet it tells you so much in that time.

On the second watch, yeah wow everything happens so fast. 30 minutes in, Nick and Judy have the book and are on the run with Gary being publicly made then another half hour comes the separation of Nick and Judy.

Marsh Market is barely in the movie (10-15 ish minutes) which was a shame, I sort of wish there was a little bit more development on that but I digress. I feel like they wanted to fit a lot of more stuff in this movie, but because of the lack of run-time nothing has time to breathe. I mean, when the betrayal happens to the chase there's only about 10 minutes! Then it's off the races toward the end of the movie.

Disney definitely has the budget to make a much longer movie, but I think ultimately it's gonna come down to test audiences to find out whether or not the Zootopia team has the green light to even go past the general 90-110 minute mark. Oh, I pray for the day I read a run time of 140-160 but kids & GA may not agree the same.
