She was very clearly made with Fatalis DNA (and some Gore Magala thrown in for good measure), and I totally wasn't expecting her to transform once I broke off enough of her shell. That phase transition where she blew up the whole arena was the first time I fainted this entire game, if only because I wasn't expecting it, got myself surrounded by Wylk crystals, and had nowhere to dodge to when she detonated them all at once.Overall a fun fight, though I hope there's a harder version of it - looks like she doesn't have a weapon, armor set, or any unique materials, so I'll have to wait for an HR or G-Rank rematch for that, I guess. I liked her design - I always had a thing for angelic dragons, though her literally turning into a Fatalis after shedding kinda threw me off - IF WE'RE DOING THIS, THE MASK STAYS ON!Also Arkveld had an egg (I swear it's not mine), so now I'm likely going to have to deal with her kid in the future, unless this is the one that's going to end up in Eorzea when the crossover happens.

Finally canonizing EDWs and giving us one to fight as the final boss sounds good on paper, but when your game is entirely Low Rank difficulty, you're doing everyone a disservice like this. Zoh Shia was specifically built as a last line of defense - presumably against the original Fatalis - and was supposedly responsible for the destruction of Wyveria and loss of all of their technology, so making it a Low Rank definitely cheapened the whole fight....At least she's prettier to look at than the Frankenstein'd one from the artbook that the Hunter's Guild was supposedly trying to revive (which may or may not still be canon, given the Guild guy's reaction to your report during the credit roll and that scientist dude's comment earlier when the nature of Guardians was first revealed); I'm guessing they misunderstood what was meant by EDWs being made from 'monster material'

Things like it and the Crypt Hydra were interesting on a conceptual level but even for MH1 they don't fit the final game's vibe at all. Parts of them being recycled for Zoh Shia, Narkarkos, and possibly Ahtal-Ka's giant fuck-you puppet mech make for more refined versions of these ideas, however over-the-top they are in their own ways. If memory serves right, Duremudira was ostensibly EDW-lite but was supposedly just some mystery tower-squatting fucker instead.To be frank, the finer details of in-world history should really go mostly unexplained. A bunch of villagers in a fully pale white area just casually namedropping a long-gone nation with a brief history lesson makes for some tonal whiplash compared to every other mainline release where ancient civ stuff was just kind of there and never the focus. Would make more sense in Stories, seeing that the core games' world-building is what's interesting. Explain too much and it eventually becomes gay and lame like the Horus Heresy.

It doesn't matter if it's MH, WoF, 40k, or any other series/setting, there's just certain things that shouldn't be expanded upon, and instead left ambiguous for the reader/viewer to ponder over and create their own ideas.Less is more. Few things can kill the integrity of a setting quite like unnecessary explanation and exposition.
