The moment Sol stepped out of the rift gate, Yukia and Kakabel followed, their eyes wide with anticipation. They were finally here to see the village of Four Trees for themselves. Even though they’d accepted the ritual’s side effects (no dueling for Kakabel, debilitating weakness for Yukia), the joy of a vacation was worth every sacrifice.“I’m shocked you even managed a single room,” Yukia said, her breath fogging in the air. “How big was the bribe?” She’d been certain they'd be sleeping in a tent.Kakabel stroked the soft fur of her ermine familiar. “Someone from the Church had more pressing affairs to attend to. They were willing to offer the room if I covered their costs.” The ritual had curtailed any chance of backup in the event of a crisis. At least with her familiar, she wouldn’t be completely alone.The guards flinched back a step during the search of their belongings, giving Yukia and her frost-emanating horns a wide berth. After a quick search of their bags, they waved the duo through.Kakabel peers through the crowd her eyes stopping on a face she’s seen before. “Hey Sol!
