Not a story yet. One of the alien species ends up hijacking everyone's afterlives and turning everyone universally into cannonfodder for their warrior class, who freely enter said hijacked afterlife and stay there indefinitely in order to become the platonic ideal of a warrior by fighting literally everyone. This, in turn, causes all souls that escape this hijack by fighting well, and enter their proper afterlives, to be marked by the spirit of war. In turn, every single reincarnated being has an affinity for war now and all afterlives are have become kind of aggressive places. There's also a bunch of soul-forged relics that escape this artificial Valhalla and end up causing chaos in the living world.
This faction is less inherently evil than the Affini.

I don't think they're incapable of understanding the concept, they just have empirical evidence that it's not true in all cases. Some sophonts need to not have self-determination in order to truly flourish, and those sophonts become florets. Others do best with some self-determination, and remain independent with varying levels of assistance from the Compact in making sure that self-determination is not infringed upon by the sorts of societal ills that ran rampant in EVERY other stellar civilization they encountered.
