Where should I start?A: Do the exercises in either "Keys to Drawing" by Bert Dodson or "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. Additionally, you can try the first few lessons of https://drawabox.com/ for building up muscle memory.
>>77808434>I think you guys are taking more from my post than I intended. I finished the pic. Hallelujah. Why the psychoanalysis?Because you always come off sounding more distraught and frustrated than you later insist that you are. When communicating in text, you need to remember that we can't necessarily read the tone of voice or the facial/bodily expressions you're envisioning in your head as you write. Imbuing one's words alone with the appropriate vibe is a skill many writers would kill to master.
>>77818828He always does this where he'll do a thing, people point out that it comes off a certain way, then he accuses everyone else of seeing things that aren't there or that a clear insult was never meant to be an insult. It's like the whole PirateSoftware level arrogance of always needing to clarify because no one "gets it."
>>77819527I just dislike the fact that I'm also being accused of looking into their mental just for expanding on what the other guy because he himself said he didn't understand.I'm personally too much of a schizo myself to call any other headcase out, but jeez man. It truly must be a touchy subject.
tf happened here.
>>77820503Don't focus on blending for now. I recommend just attacking the changes in value with just extremely opaque blocks of value. Try to get an eye for seeing the "Value zones" vs blending the values haphazardly.
>>77820606i try doing that first, and then i blend after. I think right now i just overrender for 0 reason. It'll get better with time, just need to be patient and consistent.
today's study
>>77820720Miserable fuck.
>>77820757kill yourself
>>77820757?????
>>77820757>and /trash/ers wonder why they have 0 friends.
>>77820780I'm all of these!
>>77820520>>77820503>>77820720Are you even trying? Kill yourself.
gonna challenge myself and try doing a see through value study.
>>77821390Rendering becomes a lot easier when you have your forms down. Spend more time on that before you start rendering.
>>77821390i dont think you're ready for that.
Have to wake up early tomorrow, so this is as far as I can go tonight.
>>77821390You're going to be polishing turds for a fairly long while, but I can't say that's a bad thing as long as you learn something. Realistically speaking you're better off making it so the foundation is solid before you go trying to do value studies. You can barely draw a proper oval let alone get the proper alignment of the objects you're trying to recreate.Again respect the hustle, but at least in my opinion, you're jumping the gun. Study how to properly create the objects and most of the information on that stems from the same bullshit I constantly yap aboutYou'll most likely do your own thing so here's a least a video on value and value blocking.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWTcTUNXcOg
>>77822382i mean i still do construction studies on the side. I dont just do still lifes. Seriously, i appreciate the concern, but it feels like so many people in this thread breathe down my neck anytime i jump into topics that im not "ready" for. I redid the 250 box challenge because a friend of mine was telling me "you don't care enough about learning 3d construction and perspective." And then i go read two perspective books to study up and learn. I have no problem failing and drawing bad. That's the point of being a newbie. I like to challenge myself. I like failing, cause it teaches me what i did wrong. I take peoples advice, trust me i do, i wouldn't do the things previously if i didn't but it feels like alot of people literally just ignore EVERYTHING i say when i tell them how i approach Learning new skills. Also i've watched that video, i'm mostly using ctrl-paint as a guide for approaching painting. There's a reason why im doing everything in greyscale before i even touch colour.
>>77822516this is why everyone calls you arrogant. You have 0 idea what you're talking about, and you think you're so much smarter than you actually are. I pray for you to come to your senses one day.
>>77822516I mean what do you expect from a drawing improvement thread I guess? Every time we see you doing something that is beyond your station we're most likely going to refer to the thing that it seems like your skipping over. Especially if the thing that you're skipping over is very crucial to the thing you are trying to achieve. It's a tough position cause the only other option is to sorta ignore you. Most advice would just be a repeat of the same thing we've already said, or something you already know. Ignore when bad, point out when you've done something good.
>>77822563>>77822558Messages like this is what i mean by "breathing down my neck". I literally just explained that i did this purposely to CHALLENGE MYSELF. Meaning i KNOW IM GOING IN WITH LACKING KNOWLEDGE. I have no problem with being reminded like "hey, just so you know, work on your construction." Like you said, my paintings will be shit for a decent while. But at the same time, i started drawing 9 fucking months ago, and painting this week. I've fully accepted that. I guess I'm just rambling at this point. Also i have a suspicion this is the same guy who was perma shit talking me last time i was here.
>>77822516Your friend is right, though. You don't care enough about construction. The only reason you get any (you)s at all is because some turbo sperg has been focusing on you specifically to shit on which makes me now think you're just samefagging to farm engagement.Idk why you won't just learn to draw, you're obviously fine putting in effort.
>>77822707True, i'm actually just samefagging, same way i samefagged them harassing me over my alt discord account! >Idk why you wont just learn to drawTRUE BROTHER.
>>77822707Eh don't be too hard on the kid I suppose. We all jumped into something were weren't really "Ready for" Hell I tried to learn how to animate before I could even draw and I spun my wheels doing 3 years of that.Honestly it's not very difficult to believe that some random anon has a hard on for this nigga. He's kind of "The youngest and biggest beginner" in here>>77822662Well at the end of the day, Values are influenced by planes, and being able to accurately depict your planes will heavily influence the placement of your values. The best of luck as always.
boxes are a scam
>>77822780i appreciate the advise, and im already back to studying and practicing cylinders and squares in 3d space as i finish typing this. The reason why i throw myself into things i don't know, is to build resilience and comfort and maybe pick up some shit on the way. Is it the most efficient way? Probably not. But it sure makes entering new concepts less scary once you pass the first hurdle, as opposed to alot of people here who will fully say they will never read a book/guide to study a new fundamental that scares them, never deciding to exit their comfort zone. Also the schizo is definitely some sorta /ic/ or acrg poster cause the nigga was talking about how black people cant create anything with "soul" lol. Onto your comment with planes, yeah i started realizing that with more polyhedronal shapes with hard edges like cubes, but i struggle with more curved softer edges, but ig that comes with time and studying. Also sorry for rambling/venting, it does get a little annoying/frustrating to try, study, practice and challenge yourself and then get hit with "Ermmm actually, you dont care at all lmao" from dudes who literally find opening their sketchbook to even doodle a simple sketch a monumental task (not pointed towards anyone in this thread.). Ever since you told me that my line confidence would hinder my progression, i added it to my daily warmup before i start drawing, same thing with book recommendations, video recommendations. Even started following more riot splash artists and looking at their processes. I genuinely really appreciate most anons advice, your advice included, so thank you, would hope atleast some people would be like "huh, i think he does care about improving."
>>77819527But a lot of you are legitimate schizos, so I don't really understand why anyone should be expected to trust your (in)ability to properly read anyone through text or otherwise. No one needs to give your observations the benefit of the doubt, especially when you refuse to address the actual issue (like art critique) and insist instead on prescribing medication for strangers.>Hey, how's my drawing>maybe you're depressed
>>77822780I wouldn't call him the biggest beginner though. He obviously can put in the effort for rendering out relatively complex things. At least he can understand how to use his tools to make things a certain way, it's just he's spending a lot of time doing exactly what you and everyone else is calling out.
>>77823055I like the drawing the lines into perspective to correct them. Good shit. Either way I know you put in the effort. You really just are at the point were the only thing anyone can say is more of the same you've already heard. You'd need to start asking questions I guess. Honestly. I'd say don't focus too much about posting your work here. I mean feel free to ignore me but like. We aren't going to see some grand artistic change from you in the next few days, or weeks or maybe even a month. Progression is slow as fuck and often time not visible. It's easy to just point at a beginner and be like "AH LOOK AT THIS NIGGA HE HASN'T IMPROVED" but in reality improvement is rarely that fucking quick. The most you'll get is either me telling you X Y Z or some random hateful person calling your a nigger.>>77823290I don't say biggest beginner as a negative thing. I say biggest beginner as like...out of every artist in this thread he is the most beginner. Started only 9 months ago so skills aren't really there yet. Not putting him down just trying to tackle it objectively based off of the people who post (And who aren't schizos who are never going to improve)
>>77823055>feel opening their sketchbook to even doodle a simple sketch a monumental taskNo reason to call me out this hard.
>>77823290Yeah ik it's gonna be a long haul of just repetition and learning and honestly im excited to see where i end up in the next few months of consistent grind (if engineering courses don't kill me). I just like posting here cause it's nice to have a community, and i do appreciate some anon's critiques such as yourself, but yeah some strange people here. But ig it is 4chan.>>77823389The person i was referring to was a mutual friend who also happened to draw. They're a furry, have been drawing for 7 years, and is desperately afraid of studying. They do not want to tackle perspective work, they don't want to practice anatomy, they dont want to practice anything, Yet they're also incredibly judgmental of other people and their work ethic. It's a bit mind boggling.
Wip bump
>>77823055>cause the nigga was talking about how black people cant create anything with "soul" lol.Could be that one guy that's infamous for always going on and on about how Asians have superior art genetics and every other race should stop even trying to compete. Your existence is a threat to that narrative, so I can see why he'd be real hell-bent on crabbing you.
Finally finished it
Working with different styles is fun

>>77826527I wonder what he thinks my race is based on my art.I've had people assume all sorts of shit and it's rarely right.

Attempting to unmush my brain with some doodles and trying to work my way towards a happy medium between the classic(peak) and modern designs. Settling on a look is hard.>>77822263Drawing 4 arms like that without them looking glued on is worth feeling good about though I'm sure it was a bitch to do. Great work and nice stitties.>>77828377I think this is the first time I've seen her fully rendered but she looks very nice and the mixture of hard and soft shading makes for very appealing pudgy bits. I'm shocked that dress is able to contain her.>>77828919Man that movie was weird but thanks for the nostalgic backhand. You got her look dead on and its cool watching it progress from your traditionally thicker lines to its final form. Good shit.
is this how a pose work
I think my line work has gotten a lot betterNow I'm hyping high stabilization
