Always having to look at walls and feeling boxed in bothers me more than a lot of open space with little in it. How much it bothers me depends on other things the game does however.

I guess this is more of a complaint about always using the same kind of area boundary, but the current larger map size helps get that out of sight and out of mind. Atlyss tends to rely a lot on canyon walls to form the bounds of a map, and that's just not how things really are. But it's less jarring than in some other games (e.g. Edge of Eternity, where you can't even jump), due to not being that "realistic", serious, or particularly extensively written. I think Atlyss could leverage the whole "shattered world" thing a bit more and just let you gaze into the abyss from time to time instead of always using rock walls. If players falling off cliffs is an issue, it could use an invisible wall and some text pop up in the lexicon box (the lexicon box was a good idea and I'd like it back actually) that says "nah, you don't want to do that" or something.Another possible barrier could be a brush thicket, or water that lead to controls becoming unresponsive and instantly falling through the floor (and some indication that you can't swim here). Or invincible creatures that really have no tolerance for lost souls, if they can fit into the lore.
