That's actually what I did over a decade back and I then went on to read it serially. You'll probably enjoy the troll designs and worldbuilding for their planet (it's not dissimilar to the hellborn races in Hellaverse) and they're based on the Western Zodiac so there'll already be a few you'll root for just based on their sign. Once you're interested in that, the rest of it - the humans, the Sburb mechanics and jokes - will all come to you and you can approach Act 1 with a better perspective and probably enjoy it a lot more. There's plenty of canon and fan content for you to get into from there.
