Here's my idea. Alongside the go shurikens, Lenore carries her late husband's wooden telescopic spear. It condenses into a small form factor for easy carrying. Her husband was a silver eyed warrior. They had a textbook fairytale romance. Before meeting her, her heart was cold, her world was devoid of beauty. His love made her whole, and her love made him whole. They wandered remnant as huntsman and huntress, husband and wife. However, upon learning that another silver eyed warrior was easy pickings, salem created a grimm parasite and during a particularly hectic battle to save a town, he was stabbed in the heart, and the parasite embedded itself. He recovered from the stab with aura, but he began to change. Slowly, he became violent, malevolent, and not the man she fell in love with. But at times he was still there. Like a dementia patient having a few true moments of clarity. Horrified that he could even consider hurting her, he realized he had to sacrifice himself. And so one fateful midnight in fall, he held her hand and whispered into her ear "My love will be with you forevermore" upon finishing the sentence, his eyes activated, and his heart slowed, and puttered, and stopped. He died holding her hand. His body was cremated, and in the pile of ashes laid his stone heart. That heart now sits atop his spear as a constant reminder of the love humanity is capable of, and the joy that it brings. Engraved in the muscle are his final words.

While we're expanding the Haven faculty, I'll throw my hat in the ring. I've mentioned it on and off in the past, but I think a character inspired by Bartolomeo Beretta would be fun. He'd be an older dude, an expert weaponsmith, (and in this case the weaponsmithing teacher at Haven) and would find most weapons and most people incredibly boring. Originally I had the idea that he'd live in a remote area and only take on projects he deemed interesting, but I think I can contextualize his presence at Haven to be him wanting to see new weapons year after year in the hopes that something is going to catch his eye. Cotton's hard-light sword could be one such weapon, for example

Olwen's/Olivia's switchaxe, Trefoil (unless someone has a cooler name for it), was inspired in part by Crescent Rose, however cliché that may be. It took her all of her primary/elementary school years to actually wield it unassisted, and at least three semesters at Beacon to develop a combat style with it (she still trains heavily with it even as Queen). Considering she views it as the last thing her late father made for her, I think Olwen would be devastated if it got lost and won't accept replacements, but is committed enough to fix it in the event it gets broken, seeing as wear and tear is just another part of Huntsman way of life. Probably the dumbest thing Olwen does with Trefoil is trying to traverse around like how Nora does/did with Magnhild.

The shurikens were simply weapons she became proficient with after she developed her semblance. Their long range and light weight made them ideal for stealth. Her staff is a memento of her late husband. Atop it sits his stone heart.

It took her a good few years to become proficient with the shurikens, but through enough training and adventuring, she's quite the formidable threat. She still isn't entirely great with the spear. She knows an intermediate amount about fighting with it, but seldom uses it aside from specific defense scenarios.

She doesn't care too much about the knives and she routinely makes more. However if the staff, particularly the heart was destroyed or stolen, she would find the person responsible, and inhabit their shadow, ensuring the rest of their days were as miserable as possible. She might even murder them and then herself.

She forgot the staff in her classroom once and nearly went nuclear until Caeruleus called her asking if she meant to leave it on her desk

Onyx's pistols are Crook and Flail, 2 desert eagles (or in-universe equivalent) that have been modified angain and again over the years. They're the tools she uses for most firefights and bounty hunts, often with Gravity Dust to put more kinetic impact into each shot, turning what would normally be a 50 AE shot into what hits like 50 BMG. She's always been a crackshot with a pistol when her dad taught her how to shoot, so she decided to go with something with more "OOMPH" to it. If lost she'd be rather distraught as she's spent plenty of time and money on modifying them to her comfort— replacing them to the point they're at now would set her back a bit financially.
Dumbest thing she's done with them was in her early career. She'd taken out a drug lord from Mistral that was trying to set up shop in Vacuo. Upon tagging and bagging her mark, one of the dead target's concubines had decided to avenge her lover by running Onyx over with a humvee. Trying to be cool, instead of moving out of the way Onyx decided to blast the pissed-off concubine through the windshield, killing her too. The result: the still-moving car ran Onyx over.

Odelia built it herself, with some adjustment and fine tuning from some of the smartest gunsmiths in Mistral.

Odelia has been using guns ever since she was 11, so using Astaroth in all of it's forms wasn't an issue. It was trying to get used to efficiently shifting said weapon into it's various firearm modes without messing up or forgetting that one firearm technique may not work on another type.

Odelia would sulk. A LOT. Her weapon is very special to her, and losing Astaroth would be like losing a part of herself (to her at least). She'd likely go straight to trying to rebuild it after a few days of being sad.

That was such a rush job that overloaded the dust regulator that it broke before the team visited Atlas (Not that she didn't have a weapon at all, considering her left arm.) That was then taken and rebuilt into Carnation Lily, signifying its rebirth from the ashes. Its functionally the same but has been modified to allow a second spear-head to attach to the other end.

So when you think of a pistol, youre most likely thinking about a modern, magazine fed handgun. The little box you put in the grip to load the pew devices. For any actual use, theres not really any reason to deviate from that design.

Jets pistol is the Mauser C96, one of the first auto loading (not a revolver) pistols to see military service, and Im pretty sure the first machine pistol. In the real world machine pistols suck because the recoil is prohibitive, so they were quickly issued stocks. Even then they still kinda suck because, uh, if you would shoot one you would just kinda get it. Its awkward.

Anyhow, the way you feed the pewpews is through a clip that marries up to the breech, and you push the bullets down into the weapon. Obviously thats clumbsy and requires you to have fired X number of rounds or you wont be able to use the clip. Youd have to single load them.

Jet however literally summons these cheap, disposable clips out of his ass, for him its actually faster to feed his psychotic machine pistol with those as opposed to a detachable magazine. Hes absolutely dumping the entire internal mag per volley anyway, and any decent clip fed weapon ejects the clip when the actions runs anyway. I tried to capture that in the Jet vs Weiss spar.

So this is probably the best interview ive ever seen. The reason I mention it is for people who dont quite understand Lavender's pivot, or more importantly, mental illness. This particular illness is OCD, really fucking bad OCD, but the critical point is that people really do fundamentally think differently than you. Whats so brilliant about this is that you can tell this guy is a genius. He's self inspecting super deep emotions at 90 miles an hour, while putting on his costume, articulating all of it perfectly. All of his tangents eventually lead back to his points. A passing person would see this guy as a spaz, but even the smallest amount of interest would keep most people's attention. Even if its exhausting lol.

Now obviously Lavender's illnesses are different. Addiction, depression, PTSD, drug induced paranoia, possible schizophrenia (forget everything you think you know about actual schizophrenia, Hollywood done fucked that all that up), she's a candidate for OCD herself. What the thing I think people who dont like the heel turn dont understand is that sometimes that last puzzle peace really just does fall into place outa no where. This is going to sound like bitching especially since most of the Lavender complaints have been directed my way lately but I genuinely don't think it's a case of them not understanding her arc and why she gets a redemption as it is a few people being convinced I'm speedrunning her redemption because I'm an unapologetic waifufag.
Now that's not to say there aren't people who actually dislike that plotline but whenever they've popped up it's never felt like a lack of understanding as it is just a story disagreement. The stuff I most commonly see however is

>sarcastic remarks about how everyone's going to instantly forgive her because she had unfortunate circumstances
Neither of these feel like a lack of understanding they feel like willful ignorance at best.
Again I'm fully aware of how this sounds and that acknowledging it isn't going to mitigate any complaints but the last time I saw the argument being "Lavender shouldn't have become a hero/joined beacon" was at least a month before I got my current job whereas "Ficbro's going to rush her redemption because she's a waifu fag" happens fairly regularly whenever an update happens and she happens to be in the scene.

Im curious what schizophrenia is actually like if you're willing to share more.
Personally, I'm excited to see lavender turn face and I'm hopeful that that road is littered with mistakes, each smaller, and less severe than the last. So far reading the parts of the fic that include lavender have been like reading the glass castle. There's a constant sense of dread in the good moments because you're always wondering how they're going to fuck it up.

(the guy, not the gun) There's the basic concept of him being the Haven weaponsmithing teacher and being bored by most weapons and most people, but I wanted to figure out some more things for him. I like the idea that she's relatively unaware, or simply doesn't care that much. You could also go the enzo ferarri route wherein she wears all black and dresses like that to mourn her husband. Enzo famously wore a black suit and sunglasses every day after his son dino died. So while it might put others off, she doesn't really care too much. Odelia is actually a very good drawer.
She's just more focused on her guns than drawings, and thinks they're nothing special when she may very well be the best drawer in her class. Because she can't stay idle for long (as noted earlier), she doodles a lot in class so that she doesn't go mad.

Her notebook is filled with sketches of her bandmates, Caeruleus and especially Miss Thornwood (Mari's teacher alias).
