>>78171463I speak as someone who hasn’t played one of these party racers in years at this point, though I still remember my time with old games on PS2, but I went to back to take a look at some of the biggest ones in the past few years. As best as I can tell, the track diversity/lay out alone completely blows everything else out of the water, the shift from land, air and water terrain done so seamlessly is incredible, Mario Kart and others seem to have a really obnoxious issue where they’re by and large straight forward tracks with maybe some obstacles laid around and of course hazards that you can deploy at others. Actual gameplay wise, it’s more or less the same, but it has a surprising amount of depth in that you can actually counter having gadgets deployed against you via deploying your own at the right time, but I’m still trying to get the hang of it myself and it’s really bringing back some bad memories of how annoying that shit used to be even in the old games. Vehicles/characters have defined stats that you can customize and shape to make ‘builds’ so to speak, so you can switch out parts to upgrade or seemingly handicap yourself if you really want to. Also, there’s a whole 3 hours of interactions/dialogue alone, which is apparently longer than a recent Sonic game or something lol. Like i said though, the graphic and attention to detail/motif on the stages are very cool and really inspired, the soundtrack is A-1 too and there’s like 100 different songs that you can play during matches/in the menu. For the amount of time I’m likely going to squeeze out of it and the fun I’m having I’d say it’s worth it, but it’s something you really have to feel and play for yourself to decide on.
