Thread Question: What sort of costumes do you think bugs would have for Halloween?
>>78484938Dress up as a mammal
Ah, finally...!Having it only in the /xeno/ thread didn't feel right. Here's Chapter 24 of The Howler!>https://archiveofourown.org/works/61103611/chapters/188151331In this chapter, Nithry gets culturally enriched
>>78485466Nice, even if the attempts at communication aren't completely effective the simple act of trying is definitely going to help. I can only assume this is to set up Nithry being instrumental once the translator actually comes into play, though even with him getting slightly more comfortable with Eigen around I wonder how well he'll be able to handle more complex interactions with a crazy person, besides the issue of the translator actually getting to them and whatever happens to them in the meantime. Funny how jumping into the dangerous reserve actually delayed worse danger for at least a short time, though dealing with Eigen by any means necessary is going to result in a lot of issues soon.
Welcome back /bzzt/, have a mosquito.
and an owlfly. Day 9 and 10.
>>78486004It looks like she already has more than enough blood>>78486020The clubbed antennae of owlflies have such an interesting look to them
Also don't use a black and yellow color scheme for a bug because people will call it a bee even if you list the species name in the post.
>>78486467Some other color scheme and he probably would have called a butterfly or moth, though that would have at least been closer in looks than bee
evil moth
>>78487358rape
>>78487414Wouldn't she be the one doing the raping since she's evil?
>>78487444I never said I was doing the raping
>>78487463Fair enough

>>78489526love bugs
I wonder if you could destroy a bed bug infestation by importing shitloads of spiders into your room. I will be researching this idea further
>>78491407I'm pretty sure you'd just end up with two infestations at that point
Day 11, silverfish.
>>78494038Very nice, should have asked before but is she a cleaner for hire or does she work for a specific place
>>78494202Hired cleaner. If I ever get the time, I want to design her co-worker who would be a house centipede.
>>78494261Would very much like to see that, there's basically no art of house centipedes
>>78494291Need to figure how many arms they should have. I made a rule that insects would have 2 and arachnids would have 4, but i have no idea for centipedes or even crustaceans.
>>78494345Since you don't like drawing multiple sets of limbs in might be in your best interest to just do 2 especially since you'll have to worry about all the legs, but I've also seen some designs with 4 arms and even a few with 6
>>78494475I guess 2 could work. I think I've seen other people do it and make the other limbs small/vestigial and just wrap around the body sorta.
>>78494610Yeah, small limbs could help bridge the gap between two and four
>>78497403Caress the bug abdomen
>>78497403To grab the bug is to consent to being grabbed.
fug the bugs
>>78517448bugger the bug
Day 12, the black beet.
>>78518782Very cute, I wanna grab that green tummy
>>78518782Interesting to see her in color, seems like you made her a bit pudgier. Was the type of firefly she was supposed to be changed or is this just a redesign?
>>78522185When i first designed her she wasn't based off a specific species, just really a general idea of a firefly. However I learned that most female firefly species are wingless and resemble larvae except ones found in Japan. With that in mind, I based her more on a genji firefly. She always meant to be Japanese so I got lucky there.
>>78489131I mean, I would not be opposed to having a houseguest like this in my garden.
>>78524271Didn't know that about fireflies, cool stuff
Watch out for moth attacks
>>78530260I'm reminded of that ENF comic a guy did where a moth lady's babies eat her clothes and she has to answer the door naked.
>>78530805That's a good one
it's funny when bugs get stuck with each other for a while during mating, and one of them drags the other backwards
>>78484910
>>78537622If only it was possible to cuddle the spider
Huff the fluff
Day 12, water strider (or pond skater or water bug or...)
>>78541516Nice to see art of a water strider given the severe lack of attention they get
I just remembered I did not plan/think of any designs for the remaining bugs I have to draw.
>>78554746Well, there are a bunch of -tober challenges going on, could check for inspiration from one of those, or maybe some sort of random generator to get some basis ideas
>>78554746Have you done a butterfly before?
>>78556066Drawn other people's butterflies but never made one myself.
>>78554746I always thought web spinners were adorable. The way they gently pat the ground with their 'hands' to spin their webs is way cuter than spiders.
>>78557098They are very cute. Too bad NO ONE draws them.
Day 14, webspinner!
>>78565258I will never experience this
>>78562509An insect tailor is always a rather interesting idea, especially with a bug as unknown and unique as a webspinner. Webber is a bit on the nose but I'm sure the name was made on short notice
