As a artist I somehow now have a stalker that called me a pedophile bc IDGAF if ppl post lolisho online. I got bills to pay and I can care less what someone posts online. Dude was in my server and wanted me to call out misskey.io for allowing that and I told the dude I wasn't and to stop calling that shit CP bc it isn't. Dude goes schizo, goes to some friends, falsely accusing me of being a pedophile and tries to loop their friend, the shit fanatic, into calling me out on Twitter. Didn't go anywhere. Cue a few years later I get messaged on one of my art accounts this long Catholic booth confession about how this dude was consuming vore porn, as a minor, and got called out. Then apologized to me for calling me a pedophile and making me lose my friends. Responded, letting them know to go fuck themselves. They somehow ended up in my server again and dude would sperg out with ppl posting BlackWhiplash's art. "THAT ARTIST DRAWS INCEST" and periodically mini mod in my server. I would be busy when ts happened and ppl would come to me privately expressing discomfort, so I ended up banning him and he's just been on this whole crusade since, but too scared to publicly call me out. One way or the other, aesthetic appeal for non-human creatures stems from us projecting human characteristics onto them. More often than not, illustrated full ferals, object creatures and toons/chibis still exhibit some human characteristics, mannerisms, behaviours, expressions and movement. A strong understanding of those at their most complex will make it much easier to draw them in simplified or exaggerated forms.A realistic human body is also a source of inspiration that's always with you when you draw, aside from your drawing equipment. You can use it to learn volume, shapes, shadows, colors, texture et cetera. There's tons of material to help you learn how to draw humans well, and as I already said, when you get better at drawing people, you're also getting better at drawing everything else.That's not to say you CAN'T just start drawing anthros right away. That's the way I started too. However, if you're going to take it seriously at some point, it's better to learn that stuff sooner or later. Or just treat it as a hobby and do your own thing. It's your life.
