This is why i usually only read finished things, but this was good enough to be worth reading right away.
It seems the author’s activity on the project has increased as time has gone on so thats a good sign. Im used to independent projects where the creator loses interest over time, things slow, the author gets distracted with side projects and things end up unfinished

The most jarring thing about the comic was the disparity in quality between the art of the humans (which is pretty bad) and the art of the non humans characters, especially when they are on the page at the same time. Enjoyed the comic regardless and i guess it should be expected with a furry comic

At least the quality's been getting better fairly steadily. Humans leave a lot less room for error than fantastical creatures since we're both genetically hardwired to notice flaws in human anatomy and we've got a lifetime of experience identifying them in everybody around us and even in ourselves. Non-humans leave a lot more leeway for both artist and audience to ignore minor flaws, since it's not like we've got a comprehensive idea of what even qualifies as flaws with them. Even more so when they're not directly based on any one real-world animal.

Humans are much harder to do because you actually have to get most things about them right all the time.
With non-humans you can fudge a whole lot of things and it'll still look good.
Like, if one were to autistically pore over every baxxid page as drawing reference, one would notice that there are actually sometimes fairly significant proportional and anatomical differences in a single character between panels on the very same page. But since they are big, handsome serpentine claw worms it doesn't stick out or even really register to our human eyes!

Val has enough Patreon followers to make OoPs his primary income. He has set it up to charge per page, so as he put it, he has to put out enough content to pay the rent.

As far as the direction the story goes now, Yannit is probably on the vent system and is effectively out of play for awhile. Hopefully she'll come out of murder bug mode on her own. Kass going to the Enclave to live for an extended period has been set up, so we're probably going to see that. Depending on pacing, that could be a year's worth of content, probably more. Elim and Isher will still be at the Teeth, along with In the Walls Yannit. And there's the Checkov's mini gun of Zeska and her bandits, the info drop on Yinglet caravans and whatever Narklet is up to.

That means little if the theory that the central enclave elders have been using zhat zhings to renew themselves holds true. I think it's been commented on a few times that Narklet's way younger than one would expect a patriarch to be. He might also be young by central elder standards, if he's only gone through a renewal once or twice, but he's clearly part of whatever club the elders have going on, given he has an uncanny knack for scoping out artifacts to scavenge. Guess we'll just have to wait for the plot to progress to get some more solid answers to these questions.

The way Zhat Zhing changed all the matter in The Hole makes me unsure of that, but we know far too little to say. Everything in The Hole seemed to try and become what looked like the same genetic copy as Kass, so from that I feel another yinglet (especially a male one) would experience significant changes and not be 1:1 after. The yinglet maker at least enforces their slouched posture, but more than half of people draw them standing straight up even though that should cause them to fall over. It's like the tail is just an aesthetic at that point and not a counterweight.

I was trying to shoot for one that isn't as blessed with natural "pleasant" colors like Lopin and tries to makeup his way past it. Course that requires understanding how to compliment or distract/stand out with other colors.

That would be an all hands lost situation for both the pirates and whoever they were attacking.
That being said, I can see Ship-Scavs being a thing. They would control pest populations and be able to sniff out shipworm as shipworms are molluscs and Yinglets would be able to detect them the second they started infesting any part of the hull.
Though, I imagine a LOT of Ship-Scavs would be human chasers because, well, you know.

From a world building standpoint, I could see that being an issue for the Enclaves. Shipboard life would eliminate the incompetent fairly quickly, so the Enclaves would be missing out on actually hyper competent (for Yinglets) males for breeding. If shipyings managed to somehow get ahold of some females, it could spawn a whole seperate Yinglet society.

I spent like three hours the other night writing some shit about the yinglet enclave I was working on in Yinglet creator in the far north and trying to examine how different environments and pressures could result in required changes to their society and social functions given the extremely young nature of the species at 150 years since becoming the way they are now. Not exactly shipborne yinglet parallel societies, but more examining what could lead to and what would be the natural consequences of a bronze age civilization built by Yinglets far from the South even on a small scale.

...At least based on some of my research, what I have on hand from the comic, and some personal conjecture from knowledge of bronze age civilizations and the lore of the comic. It's interesting to play with!

These are Pathfinder rules, which are basically D20 3e. For the Hell of it, I decided to see if I could work up Kass as she is in the comic right now. I'm running a D20 Modern Urdan Fantasy game set in the 1930's, and I really like the D20 Modern system for its flexibility. The OooPs setting is either low magic or a post apocalyptic setting with extremely high tech remnant artifacts, like the Zhat Zhing floating around. I used the default array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 and 8. I built Kassen as a human male with stats as Str 13, Dex 8, Con 11, Int 12, Wis 14 and Cha 15. I then applied Yinglet physical abilities. As Kassen's Yinglet form seems to be a Bog standard basic unmutated female Yinglet, I decided to set her physical abilities to the default rather than apply modifiers to Kassen's Human physical ability scores. Kass retains the extra starting feat and extra skill point per level for being human. The extra feat is Exotic Weapons Proficiency: Meteor Hammer. As a large two handed weapon, Kass is too small to pick up, let alone wield the one she currently owns. As she advances, she'll lose the extra skill point per level, and if she attempts to retrain her extra feat, she'll basically lose it entirely. Theoretically, she could have medium size Meteor Hammer made that she could use, but with her abysmal Grapple check she'd essentially lose the trip and disarm features of the weapon against human sized opponents. I chose White Collar as Kassen's starting occupation. From the comic, it seems as Kass was essentially being trained as middle management for when his older brother inherited the family business. I chose the armor Proficiency feats because the armor he and Elim were wearing in flashbacks looks to be some sort of medium weight armor. Presumably, Kass could make use of properly constructed Yinglet style armor if were made for her.

Kassen was raised as a human, so she doesn't get the Yinglet racial special qualities, Scavenger, Swarm and Weapons Familiarity: Spears. I decided on three levels with two levels of Charismatic Hero and one level of Dedicated Hero. These seemed to fit as two of the special abilities, especially the Empathy Talent from Dedicated, match up well with Kassen's ability to see other people's point of view.

Pathfinder is just 3e D&D. When Wizards of the Coast came out with 4th Edition D&D, Piazo Publishing essentially used the 3rd Edition D&D rules to create Pathfinder. D20 Modern was first published in 2002 and while the the basic premise is Action Movie Role-playing, there are rulesets so you can basically play D&D in a modern setting. There's also a supplement called D20 Past the covers the Renaissance era to WWII. Since OoPs seems to be a non magic setting, I decided to use the D20 Modern ruleset, but any D20 Modern Character will work in a 3e D&D or Pathfinder game.
