For shits and giggles I gave him actual black facial features (using SU as a template for animated black folks). Comparing them makes me realize that Viv literally did just take a white guy and give him a dark tan lol. If I were black I'd be kinda insulted, it's the weakest pandering imaginable.

Louisiana Voodoo isn't a closed religious practice, it's just a form of folk Catholicism and pretty heavily divorced from the Vodún religion, which may or may not be closed depending on who you ask. One of the most prominent priestesses currently working in Louisiana Voodoo is a Ukrainian Jewess, and there are probably more white partitioners than black at this point. Most of the people nagging Viv about 'cultural appropriation' genuinely have no idea what they're talking about when they can't tell the difference between Catholic syncretism and an actual closed religious practice. Why someone would pander to such ignorance is anybody's guess.

While some of them probably moved on and adopted more modern attitudes, Alastor is famously stuck in his ways. Modern tech is all bad but being woke now is fine? I don't think Alastor would care that much about that kind of issue, apart from when it affected him directly. (or his mother) Viv isn't that good at nuance though, as we are well aware.
>>78774315One of the more humorous things to me personally is how so many fans believe that Al would have been treated as less than dirt as a Creole, when in reality Creoles were much higher on the social totem pole than Blacks and Native Americans, and many mixed race Creoles of the time didn't identify as African at all. Ironically the odds are high that Al would have discriminated against non Creole blacks, despite facing discrimination from whites himself. Louisiana is unique with it's 'middle' race, and I find that most people today want to force a sense of 'whiteness' or 'blackness' on to people, which is oddly racist in and of itself.
