Lopin's empathy skills are his strongest feature. He just needs to hone the rest of himself more to be able to express them when it matters.
I'm not sure how to format this concept or if anyone would care to read anything exploring a potential civilization building project written as a story exploring building blocks and social/societal changes as a result of a one or two yinglets pushing a tiny enclave into the bronze age in the north. It's interesting to play with what lore val has available and see what can be done with it.
This is the end of Day 12 (+~14). New day, new focus? Yannit hunt or enclave trip?Might be some delays since Kal needs a new horn.
>>78787174Ran has the Mothgaurd on Yannit, so I'm betting Enclave trip.

>>78890412I was doing research into yinglets for some creative writing and found a page that stated 40+ was considered old age or the equivilant to being 70 in human years, and something about Healthy Healthy juice implied a longer life
>>78898253"healthy healthy juice" is just a one off meme invention joke implying a random yinglet just threw some shit together and made a rejuvenating elixir by accident40 as an absolute max makes more sense to me. 30 seems like a more reasonable average, and translating "human years" to something with a different developmental timeline is always fraught.i don't think yinglets are making it to 45, even in a vacuum (i.e. not being killed and/or eaten), let alone 50.
>>78898253>>7889850140 years is considered ancient and an abnormality for yinglets. Only Figgins has ever lived to such an advanced age. 25 years old is their usual cap.
How do you think a French person would react if you treated them like a pet and praised them being unable to speak the /th/ phenome and compared them to a yinglet?
>>78898831The French have a long history of being perverts, so you're likely to find more than a few who would be into it.
>>78898635yeah that's about what i thought when i asked where the extra 10-20 years was coming from. i knew we'd gotten something specific somewhere
>>78898635My notes must be wrong then, or they were outdated because of an earlier page was retconned. Fuck, I'll have to scrub through it again
>>78900731I don't think any prior pages gave hard numbers for yinglet lifespans.
Noted something while designing a oc and consulting the lore pages... is there a single female in the comic that has the very short and rounded muzzle the females are supposed to have? I get the feeling the creator forgot they wrote that or decided it diverted from the silhouette of the species too much.
>>78902052I think Lippie has the shortest snout. There's also been a lot of stylistic change from the early comic to now, so a standard "shortness" for snouts considered feminine is a bit hard to measure.
>>78888757Figgens is an outlier. His extended lifespan is a mutation. Yinglets are visibly aged at 20 and most don't live past their mid 20s. The ones that don't die from other causes, that is

>>78902990Release the souls of the dinosaurs so that they may become corporeal once again. Raise the temperature so that we may have our natural climate back.
>>78902990it's actually not that much water in the grand scheme, and unlike agriculture it's much less likely to simply evaporate when used in sealed pipes and dumped back into the groundwater.many datacenters also use closed-loop systems with chilling plants attached (building-sized heat pumps rejecting heat directly to atmosphere and cooling the water off, basically).people see a number like "the same water as a town of 30,000" and don't realize that not only is it peanuts to what agriculture is already using, it's a number from a faulty premise treating datacenters like nuclear power plants. water has a ludicrous heat capacity, and "8 billion gallons per year" sounds like a scary number but it's only something you get if you act like they're pulling fresh water straight from a river, running it through the datacenter once, and then pouring the lukewarm water directly into the ocean - not typically how it works.

>>78906682rejecting heat by evaporative cooling consumes water, million gallons a day for a medium sized datacenter, just blowing into the atmosphere. nothing returns to a river. at least agriculture turns water into food.
>>78932835a few things1. that water eventually condenses as precipitation2. the water consumption figures are extrapolated from flow rate. they're not boiling nearly that much water (it takes a stupid amount of energy to boil water to steam because of its ridiculous latent heat of vaporization - if waste heat could efficiently boil water there'd be regenerative turbines using the steam to generate electricity)3. datacenters are almost entirely using closed-loop cooling systems because maintaining water quality and preventing clogging/corrosion in an open loop is extremely intensive4. water chilling plants attached to datacenters reject heat via cooling towers, which may be wet or dry, and only wet ones use evaporative cooling (and they can reject an absurd amount of heat if they do)i don't think you realize just how much power it would take to boil away a million gallons a day. it's over 100 megawatts, entirely in waste heat. that's more energy than many LARGE datacenters use TOTAL (which would only go entirely into boiling water if they were somehow operating at literally 0% energy efficiency - especially silly since computer hardware is much more efficient than people realize). to boil water at the same rate with literal nuclear weapons you'd need to set off a 2.3 kiloton nuclear warhead every single day.the water cost is overblown, the power draw (and unsustainable bubble nature of the entire industry) is the problem. gigawatt-scale datacenters in planning stages are unlikely to be built before the bubble pops, those have a very long time horizon and a lot of (justified) pushback currently. excess water use is just not one of the more empirically justified complaints.
>>78934156>which would only go entirely into boiling water if they were somehow operating at literally 0% energy efficiency - especially silly since computer hardware is much more efficient than people realizeThat's backwards. Processors don't do anything but convert electricity to heat (and flip bits, but whatever). A datacenter that turned 100% of the electrical energy it consumed into thermal energy would be 100% efficient. It's the supporting equipment (fans, lights, air conditioning, coffee makers) that is wasteful (in theory).
>>78936646ah shit you're right. i confused myself thinking about how little thermodynamic work computation represents, despite how far we are from the computational efficiency limits. we passed diminishing performance returns with more power into a chip quite a while ago (i.e. you get more compute for your energy with two processors splitting the same power), these days physical component distance is more of a bottleneck and we're up against the literal speed of light in traces for some of that.still, 100 megawatts is only for the largest datacenters that exist and closer to the cooling load of gigawatt-scale power generation. it's not gonna boil away a river or some shit. besides, their construction is up against power constraints - the plans outstrip planned generation capacity and a certain group of drooling retards recently killed the US capacity to exploit the exploding efficiency of wind but especially solar. there are no plans for building the grid capacity that gigawatt-scale datacenters would need, since nobody actually wants to build new fossil fuel plants when the miniscule maintenance costs and zero fuel costs of renewables are an option.

>>78966508or just ignore the ammonia thing. i want to cuddle the avali after fellatio (i will be careful to direct its hideous vent away from me).
>Ran would choose only the finest responsibility-dodging poisons
>>78947362Huh. I saved this before I knew what an Avali was, and that their biology is ammonia based. The only possible explanation for this image, then, would be a story out of a 1957 sci fi anthology called the Seedling Stars by James Blish. In it, rather than terraform planets, humans were genetically engineered to not only survive, but thrive, on worlds hostile to unmodified human life. The first story, "Seeding Program," features humans adapted to live on the surface of Ganymede. They also have ammonia based biology. The first story is about an adapted man named Sweeney who is sent by a corporation that has invested billions in terraforming and wants to outlaw adapted humans to capture the Ganymede colonists. The story goes into detail about Sweeney's biology when he reflects that being exposed to an Earth normal atmosphere would be instant death for him and that exposure to "shirt sleeve" weather for him would leave an unmodified human a a flash frozen corpse.

Are there actually people who don't like yannit? Explain yourselves immediately.
>>78969433Annoying sideplot character #1 and despite loving alien anatomy and designs as far as insectoids go she doesn't do anything for me.
>>78969807>Annoying sideplot character #1She was the first main character introduced, outside of Kass and Elim, and has been there since the 3rd page. There's nothing sideplot about her.
>>78969874She was always a sideplot character and we might finally be able to focus more on yinglets

>>78969807I care a whole lot more about the indrel and baxxid than I do about basically every other character in the whole comic. The only yinglet plot that even comes close to mattering as much to me is whether cuteboy Lopin is happy or not. That means all the main plots that take up the most time: the humans, human lookalikes like Isher and yinglet plots are a "sideplot" that is "in the way" for me. But that doesn't make me dislike the characters for having their time and space to develop.
>>78969807Shes boring, her scenes usually do nothing, hurt best boy, shes so alien and weird no one interacts with her, the interactions that characters do have with her feel like quirky bad oc, that's either played for laughs or are just too out there to do anything for me.for example the scene where she was sniffing Ran's glue and it was awakening emotions within her. boring, filler, the character.
>>78978113>I care a whole lot more about the indrel and baxxid than I do about basically every other character in the whole comic.i feel exactly the same.>>78978446>her scenes usually do nothingcompletely incorrect. we learn by far the most about Indrel from her scenes. that you don't care about it is one thing, but they do accomplish what they intend to accomplish.>shes so alien and weird...you do realize that's the point, right?the rest i'm not going to dignify with a response.
>>78978782>completely incorrect. we learn by far the most about Indrel from her scenes. that you don't care about it is one thing, but they do accomplish what they intend to accomplish. It is correct, please tell me about scenes where she was involved in a story that did anything remotely interesting, even her crashout was resolved in like 2 pages and slowed down the pace of the comic.I do not care for the indrei, pretty sure only very small minority of people cares about indrei because they are uninteresting.>...you do realize that's the point, right?I very much do and it's annoying and was already done by better writers and in my humble opinion, it never fucking worked for them either.not dissing the author, the comic is very much up there in story telling quality.
>>78967251Yannit, in a muddled and groggy state, is going to run into Brakka and make a friend, blissfully unaware that he's the scav who stabbed her friend
>>78979491Ha ha, oh wow. I can see it.
>>78967251what is this, it's a new-> OH SHIT A TRADEMASTER PAGE, RUN AWAY AHHHH> he is being reasonable (for now)oh.all right then.> they know that the Baxxid proximity is the triggergreat! third Indrel is the charm.
>>78979491That reminds me:> The last comic page featuring Brakka was possibly five years agohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNJ1RHUnX9sAnd i say possibly because there's only one page that has the tag for Brakka as a character. With that said, it would be interesting to know what Brakka has been doing in the days after being thrown by Elim. If he managed to escape the "doing" of his surroundings when he was last seen. (the two human-chasing scavs getting fucked)

>>78978961>>78978446Basically my thoughts on the side plot characters nearly down to a T.>>78978113They simply aren't interesting enough as a species or culture to have taken up as much space as they have and feel like filler.
Personally I think the plotline of Kass having to wear the masquerade in the enclave is very interesting, but it's been pretty infrequent (in the sense that it hasn't had an update in a very long time, I know it got a lot of attention early in the comic). I'm really looking forward to some of the patriarchs figuring out something's really wrong with this new scav

Well goodnight.
>>78967251So Ran and the Trademaster go way back then, huh?
>>78990600They look to be similar ages. They probably grew up together.
>>78992747Seems likely. I wonder how that childhood went.
>>78986207>"Like lippie, but less screamy"
>>78994447>has never heard of "autistic screeching"
>>78971822I think anon meant to say "whore's house".
>>78986127I feel like most of them will just find Kass's "eccentricities" hot.
All of Kass's assertiveness will activate some dormant kink in the enclave yinglets. Either the desire for a female to boss them around who isn't the matriarch or the desire to have strong younglets.
