It locked. Anyway, it turned out once you set the new code the manufacturer can't reset it unless you send it in (while not attached to anything), and it does take weeks, so instead I chose to spend an hour or two trying random number combinations that I thought were close enough until I finally guessed right. So I guess good luck to her with all that.
