After multiple crashouts, I've finally Steel Souled my way to the end of Act II. Wish me luck!
>>79286771>the lewd scenes from the "A Brief Epilogue"I don't know why, but I find a certain softness in A Brief Epilogue and its lewd scenes; it's really well written IMO

>>79291946If you just want the Steel Soul achievement, you can minimize the number of bosses you need to fight by just grabbing the essential travel abilities. My route went a little something like this: After the mandatory Moss Grotto time waste, proceed to the Marrow to get Silkspear, free Bell Beast and ring the first Bell Shrine. Easy stuff.Stop at the jail to free Grindle and get the Straight Pin, then proceed to Deep Docks to get Swift Step, fight Lace and ring the second Bell Shrine.Continue into Far Fields to get the Drifters Cloak and fight Fourth Chorus, optionally stopping at the Pilgrim's Rest for the tools there. After ascending to Greymoor, proceed east to Craw Lake to get Silkstorm, ring the third Bell Shrine, then West to get the Reaper Crest for the better moveset and fight Moorwing. If you stop to talk to Garamond between Moorwing sightings, he'll help you fight it and do most of the work. Pass straight through Bellhart to Shellwood, fight Sister Splinter to get the Cling Grip, then use it to collect the Polip Hearts - you're going to want to equip the Polip Pouch for easy DoTs - before heading back to the top entrance to Bellhart to fight Widow and ring the fourth Bell Shrine. You can now bounce around between Bellway stations to scrounge any additional tools, spools or masks you want to try and get - the Fractured Mask is worth having for the save versus instant death - before heading back to the top of Shellwood for the fifth and final Bell Shrine before you can proceed up the Blasted Steps to Act II.
>>79296228Alternately, if you sincerely hate fighting Last Judge, head to the top of Greymoor and climb Sinner's Road to the western entrance to the Mist and fight Phantom in the Exhaust Organ. This has the advantage of bypassing most of Underworks, which is a pretty grueling obstacle course when you're trying to avoid death. However you get to Act II, you'll need to fight Cogwork Dancers to descend into the Cogwork Core in order to access the Whispering Vaults to the East, fight Trobbio on the Stage in order to access the operable lift down into the Underworks to get the Clawline and any tools you want to get from Architect, them climb back to to the Whispering Vaults to get the first song.Clawline enables you to get the other song pieces from the High Halls - where you'll want to grab the Cogflies, how you've been holding onto a craftmetal - and the top of the Cogwork Core .This also enables you to climb Mount Fay for the Faydown Cloak which you don't strictly need but will make fighting Grand Mother Silk significantly easier. At this point you should at a minimum have a straight line ranged attack, a homing ranged attack and an extremely forgiving vertical pogo. When you do finally head up to fight Lace for the second time, just bounce on her head until she dies and throw poison knives at her every time she jumps away.GMS is as easy, Clawline puts you on top of her and you can just pogo until you need to dodge her web attack, and poison Cogflies will keep on working while you evade. All of this is achievable in well under five hours if you don't spend a ton of time backtracking, just move with purpose through each area and take the bosses with caution. After securing your Speed Run and Steel Soul chievos, you can decide whether you want to go for 100% and unlock Act III - just be aware that neither are required to get the Steel Soul achievement so you can still flex without having to get molested by void tentacles.
>>79295590Head empty.
>>79296966free of thought
>>79296228>>79296280This is an impressive amount of effort put into writing a guide unprompted and I may come back to it for reference if I ever do try Steel Soul, but for now I'm pretty sure I'll be fine just not having the achievement. I usually prefer to skip achievements I don't think I would have fun getting. Hope this ends up being useful to others, though, it seems like it'd work.
>>79297523I've got it committed to memory after spending the last few weeks trying to crack Act II. As guides go, it could be improved by calling out the most efficient mask pieces to grab, since only a couple of them really require that you go out of your way, but they aren't strictly necessary to succeed. That said, you can easily have two extra masks without really trying by the time you fight GMS and it does help when you screw up a web dodge. The single best piece of advice I can give for a successful run is, don't be ashamed to quit. If you get into a bad situation, you're not gonna impress anyone by crashing out on an obstacle course with one mask left. Just exit out and the next time you try, it'll be from your last saved location and you can try again. Everything else is just patience.
>>79298196God, Phantom deserved better.
>>79298196Phantom is still pretty.
>>79298315Phantom was straight up suicidal. She wanted Hornet to kill her.
>>79299013But all she had to go through to reach that point? like, no wonder Lace is how she is, Phantom was like her until she got discarded because she wasn't "perfect" but who knows what is GMS definition of perfect really?
>>79299058I don't think we can say for certain what GMS did and didn't do when it's not even clear that she was capable of communicating outside of her cocoon. It's entirely possible that she was incapable of telling Phantom and Lace anything, and they're as fucked up as they are because their mother figure is essentially absent in their lives. Certainly, Lace's Needolin memory dialogue in the Exhaust Organ suggests that there's a gulf between GMS and her daughters. I think it's more likely that GMS' sleep prevented her from exercising any direct control over Pharloom, but between her innate clairvoyance and the silk cast off by her cocoon, it enabled her dreams to effect the world around her. So she basically wills Phantom into existence because she's dreaming of a loyal daughter, but for whatever reason, or even for no reason at all - because as Hornet observes, it's not impossible to spin life from silk but it's an ephemeral thing - she starts to fray.GMS is still bound within her cocoon so she can't explain to Phantom what's happening to her or do anyone to fix it, but because she still wants a daughter spun loyal she wills Lace into existence, too - and now they're both left to wonder what the hell their mother wants from them.My guess is that as protective of GMS is of Lace in Act III, she'd likely have rewoven Phantom if given the opportunity - making the whole thing that much more tragic.
>>79299703It'd be cool if it turns out GMS isn't a pos and it's all just a tragic misunderstanding, but it's really unclear just how much reach she had after being sealed, did she create her daughters conciously? or were they just accidents of her mind dreaming perfect daughters after the weavers betrayed her? Because now we know for certain there were more besides Phantom and Lace, and apparently they had purposes beyond just being her daughters. The thing that isn't clear to me, is that Phantom was born imperfect and started to fray, but then who send her to the exhaust organ? Was it GMS? the conductors? did she go willingly? why wouldn't she try to change her fate if so?I'm afraid we may never know, although with the DLCs that will come out we may get a clearer picture.
>>79300331Don't read into cut content, the organ sleepers were dropped for a reason. That they repurposed some of it into Phantom's apparently self-imposed exile to the Exhaust Organ doesn't give it any further credence than the Strung to Serve ending gets from the Mount Fay tuning fork.I think that spinning life from silk is just an imperfect process. The Weavers attempted to create something similar with Eva, and only managed to create an entity too frail to survive outside of her suspension tank. It's possible that Phantom was perfect but frayed due to simple misfortune, a freak occurrence causing her to gradually unravel. The same could just as easily happen to Lace. But we see first-hand in the game that GMS sacrifices herself to save Lace. She almost completely unravels herself to try and protect Lace from the Void, and when Hornet does finally free her, gives up the last of her silk to give Lace a chance at escape. These are not selfish actions, even if her toxic maternity originated from a selfish impulse. As for who told whom to do what, I don't get the impression that GMS was giving orders. My sense is that the Conductors were interpreting the will of Grand Mother Silk to execute orders that they thought would appease her. We know from the haunting of Bellhart that the connection to GMS causes you to experience her memories and emotions, but in a confusing jumble. She most likely dreamt of the Weavers and their progeny, so the Conductors sent their soldiers out into the wasteland and retrieve them thinking it was what GMS wanted. As for Phantom and Lace, I don't think they would have been much inclined to do anything the Conductors told them to do. They're basically messianic figures in a religion that is built - ignorantly - around silk worship. More likely, they would tell the Conductors what they thought GMS wanted, not that they would have any better idea of what that was.
>>79300920I like how, if GMS really had no ill intentions, that means the weavers were massive raging tards.>Weavers: Nooo! we are not divine! she lied to us!>GMS: I love my daughters :)
>>79301297I mean, the Weavers themselves celebrate preying on the bugs of Pharloom. There's a lot more evidence that they're massive raging tards.Even Herrah seems to think that her sisters are a bunch of manipulative cunts.
>>79301491Based Herrah, taken to soon to sleep forever
>>79300920>These are not selfish actions, even if her toxic maternity originated from a selfish impulse. It's apparently common for a lot of kinds of abusive parent to do "big" self-sacrifices like this, which I'd guess as being because most cases stem from a misalignment of high investment parenting. That is, they're abusive BECAUSE they care greatly, in a fashion so warped as to be counterproductive.>They're basically messianic figures in a religion that is built - ignorantly - around silk worshipNot so much "ignorantly" as "taught the wrong hymns on purpose" so the Weavers could drop their part in the eternal song... Which would entail having at least one of them singing at literally all times.>>79301297Unexpected reveals of adoption are a horrible messy thing WITHOUT staking a religiously-mandated caste system on the lineage claim. Imagine all the autistic shitflinging about the exact makeup of Jesus in relation to God the Father being kicked off by an entire ruling caste that thinks they're "literal by-blood Sons of God" finding out it's actually a completely different weirdass thing and their by-birth lineage is just feral pigs that happened to be in the right place at the right time.
>>79302512True, however if I was them I would have noticed right away due to not having any cake. (This is the reason Lace is the perfect daughter)
>>79302512I just don't think that there's adequate evidence that GMS was abusive. Involuntarily absent, sure, but she's presented much more as a tragic antagonist even at her most malicious - her big "bind them all" villain moment after consuming the Unraveled's silkheart, in context, looks a lot like bitterness that her adoptive daughters took her gift if free will and used it to betray and imprison her.Whereas the Weavers are constantly depicted as vicious, conniving predators and manipulators whose word you have to take that, really, GMS was evil. They had to do it, she left them no choice - even though we never once see any evidence that she treated them poorly.

>>79313702They universally refer to their bodies as shells, so pretty much exoskeletons.
>>79313702I would love for Hornet to be soft and cuddly but canonically she probably has a diamond-hard exoskeleton, she mentions having a shell way stronger than normal. At least we know Lace and Phantom are soft.
>>79316088This is why Hornet is fascinated by bugs with soft fur.
I will now play your game

>>79317626It's not canon, though. There is no romantic tension between Hornet and Lace, it's entirely projection by thirsty queers whose entire personality is their sexual identity. You know, like all shipping.

>>79319408On the one hand I get it, and I personally think Hornet & Lace could have a cool older sister-younger sister dynamicOn the other, I have too much yuri fatigue to stomach shit like Lacenet anymore
>>79313702>>79323737depends on the insect, put most likely exoskeletons, though we can see some can be fuzzy enough to have fur so it can be hard with a soft exterior

I just want to find at least one fic where those two go down the master/apprentice and/or step mother/daughter route >>79324029.One that has no romance involved, not even a slow burning one because that has been seriously overdone despite how cute it can get.
>>79328315Isn't Lace technically Hornet's aunt?
>>79325528I hate people that treat the Faydown Cloak as actual wings.
>>79330045speak on that
>>79330045Still don't care, still think it's cute.
>>79325388Always love more detailed drawings of Hornet in that outfit.
>>79330045I just really like how she's drawn in that image.Besides, it's not impossible for Hornet to have at least some vestigial wings. A lot of PK's symbols had a pair, so maybe he had wings as well and Hornet inherited them.
>>79297523>>79298096NTA but if you're gonna die, you can also quit to menu and load again. Because the game autosaves a backup at various key moments (ability unlocks) you can also roll back on the file screen of you took too long

>>79321480How do you figure?
>>79335010I've almost made it to the end. Had a couple of near-death experiences including a very close call with a void gauntlet, but all I have left is the Festival of the Flea and I'll be ready to head down to the Final Dive.
>>79326731>I'm not gay, you're gay!The yurislop has rotted your brain so badly that you're behaving like a bratty twelve-year-old.
>>79340052Think about it; Sherma makes it from Bone Bottom all the way to the First Shrine unassisted, making a racket with his bell the whole way up. He's not accosted by haunted pilgrims, Skarr hunters, wild beasts or the Choir. He never succumbs to the haunting. Even the silk zombies of the White Ward leave him alone and only become enraged when Hornet arrives. Sherma is the beneficiary of Grand Mother Silk's divine protection. Maybe even her chosen one, whose destiny to rouse the god from her slumber was sidelined my Hornet's territorial instinct to throw down with another pale being.
>>79345224isnt there some unusued code in the game that would have made last judge let you pass without a fight if you went pacifist?mayby he just Frisk Undertale'd this shit. He IS a short king, and a lot of attacks would miss him
>>79345453No idea how you'd go pacifist when you're forced to fight Sister Splinter to get the cling grip. Everything north of Shellwood is unnavigable without it, and that's even assuming you can get that far without the drifters cloak.
>>79345709>No idea how you'd go pacifist when you're forced to fight Sister Splinter to get the cling grip.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rg9Wb3SeAYalso drifters cloak could probably be aquired pacifist by only poking the enemies for the spines twice, then leaving
>>79345453I thought the code was active but impossible to trigger due to the mandatory first boss.
>>79346360You'd still need to fight Fourth Chorus to get up to Greymoor. There's no way out of that part of Far Fields but the lava arena, and unlike the Beastfly encounter you can't just run past it.

Why hasn’t hornet gotten pregnant at some point and some offspring is running around on their own quest. Hornet is ancient.
>>79381927Yes. For some reason the artist deleted their original post, but the one with the model download link is still around.https://x.com/Sariel_42/status/1977839717035991060
>>79382006Apparently Weavers are notoriously infertile.
>>79383850They need that pale dick.
>>79384873I don’t think it’s only pale beings, though I’m sure that helped in Herrah’s case. We see that there were many escaped weavers who bred for generations that were hunted down and captured by the Citadel.
>>79385232We know literally nothing about any of the other Weaverspawn captured by the Citadel. For all we know, it's impossible for a Weaver to breed with any kind of mortal bug without some sort of supernatural assistance on the father's side, which is why Herrah and the Pale King were able to produce Hornet, but Herrah and the former spider tribe King of Deepnest were not.GMS' best revenge against her duplicitous daughters was to render them effectively sterile. Serves them right.
>>79385409We know it’s not impossible, just very difficult.
>>79371052>Ultimate GOTY winner is neither the PC GOTY nor Console GOTY winner, nor was it even nominated for eitherHow does this logic check out?
>>79385794Do you think it's reasonable to infer that as a bug of honoured caste, the King of Deepnest might have been a peer to the Green Price, Crust King Khann or Karmelita? So, all juiced up with power far in excess of the mortal bugs they rule over? And still unable to sire offspring with a Weaver. There's "difficult," and then there's, "our only example of success involved divine intervention." Zote is not fertilizing any Weaver eggs.
>>79386329It’s not our only example is all I’m saying, there were a lot of cages in the cradle. And probably not that many higher beings just wandering around.

>>79386314SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 WINS IT AGAIN
>>79383850Not infertile per se, but conception is extremely difficult for them, that's why there are very few weaver descendants overall. Herrah only managed to have Hornet due to getting it on with a Pale being, although we don't know exactly how many "tries" that took.
>>79386996>>79387038>>79387201Do you think Hornet actually would have an impreg fetish? We know she inherited her need for domination and control from her father, so what are the chances she inherited the constant need for motherhood from the weavers? and she's just to stedfast to ever act on it?captcha: rrprp
>>79388177This is one hundred percent supported by her love of neotenous soft fluffy things throughout the Hunters Journal. Her stoicism is keeping a lid on it, but she's unambiguously baby crazy.

We didnt get to see Hornet ripping out hearts.https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bLSKRtXpi6k
>>79389838They probably cut those animations to make Hornet look less like a psychopat. Since the point of gathering the hearts it's retrieving them in a respectful way, honoring the most powerful bugs from Pharloom's past. She's still a homophobe and racist though, and I love her.
>>79388095>although we don't know exactly how many "tries" that tookI've had a hankering for digging into the horrid guts of this, with the first attempts intentionally exaggerating issues to highlight what needs fixed and most fed through bits of the Vessel process after Herrah accepted them to be failures to observe things the concentration needed for the "proper" Vessels disallowed. Obviously an opportunity for him to find out his incorrect premises and salvage the plan in a noticeably less asshole fashion, but just resulting in a second smaller Dead Baby Pit can also be used. Like Ghost wringing a Silk Skill out of it or accidentally getting the Weaversong stitched into a never-dead-ever-dying one that uses it to finally start doing things.
