/tfg/ - Transformation General
The True Power of the Dragon Balls Edition

Things turning into other things, sometimes in a sexual manner but always in a hot one.

Prompt: TF gym, whose equipment and programs transforms you

>This was written by a hack, wasn't it?

I hate to be the negative nancy but that’s like…the vast majority of stories I’ve encountered. It’s pretty easy to tell from just reading a few lines. I do think part of it is that I’ve been around so long my standards are probably higher now. Even so, a lot of writing I’ve come across in this fetish is incredibly subpar or downright bad. I’ve seen relatively popular writers who still write in broken english and grammer like they never finished school. Not to mention the typical writing cliches and pitfalls repeated ad nauseam. It kind of amazes me sometimes, but then again I realize it’s mostly coomers that read this stuff so I guess their bar is pretty low.

Again, part of it is me. But I still think with that in mind the quality of writing in this fetish is overall poor.

The biggest tell for a bad writer that I'm familiar with is character mishandling. A shit story will start with "John Doe is a ## year old who works at the [irrelevant]." and prattles on with other details that tell me nothing about who the character is. Is John Doe the kind of character who deserves the witch's vengeance, or is he a helpless victim at the whim of a magical bitch? I don't know, but at least I know he's a "Normal guy" or "Used to play baseball".

Characters making decisions that make no sense just to contrive the writer's fetish scenario are also a big problem. The "best friend" who drugs their friend to transform them, but neither of them react like this is a huge betrayal is a common one. It looks like a different problem from the first one, but usually they're both caused by the hack writer not putting any thought into what the character thinks and feels because they don't realize that's the most important part of the story.
>>
>>79318361
Any examples of those kind of requests?

There was one that lives rent free in my head. It was delivered so incoherently, and without an ounce of punctuation that it just read like the ramblings of a goddamn madman. The story jumped around wildly, made no sense from a story-telling perspective and only served as the the thinnest of vessels for their specific fetish. Paragraphs of insane text all for the barest explanation for the tale of, "woman gets transformed into anthro breeding stock by big anthro who degrades her".

Once again, all delivered without a single piece of punctuation or even capital letters. Just text. It was so bizarre.

>>
>>79322190
>What kind of direction would you take it in?
You kinda caught me at a blank, because it was just a thought, but from the fake cover it would have to be a science experiment gone wrong kind of deal.
>Scientists fucking around, experimenting with mouse DNA and gene splicing for the hell of it.
>The invention of the woolly mouse was cool and all, but why not take it a step further?
>Why not create the most intelligent mouse on earth through splicing human DNA?
>Several human volunteers have their DNA harmlessly replicated to be spliced with a mouse embryo and put into a stasis pod to grow.
>Mouse eventually reaches maturity and becomes an anthropomorphic mouse futa.
>The cover art depicts her waking up, still inside the pod, with pink gas around her.
>Due to both male and female DNA being used because the scientists were stupid, the mouse became a futa.
>Scientist opens up the pod too early without performing decon, and the pink gas is unleashed, turning everyone into exact duplicates of the mouse.
>Mouse girl runs away in horror, unaware she's still spreading the mouse girl virus.

I actually quite like when the holidays roll around. Maybe it's a bias because I'm kind of stuck being themed around them. >A shit story will start with "John Doe is a ## year old who works at the [irrelevant]." and prattles on with other details that tell me nothing about who the character is

It’s just really lazy exposition jammed into the beginning as quickly as possible. Because the writer knows you need to introduce a character in order to have a story at all but they don’t give fuck all about them, they just want to get to the kinky stuff that makes their peepee hard asap

It's completely unnecessary too. Instead of giving an academic definition of who John Doe is, just say "John met a witch." Brevity is critical, if you only want to write about the kinky stuff, start there. Don't even need the witch, the opening line to a story could be "John's knees buckled as he fell to all fours. The sound of his pants tearing was almost as the sound of his hooves hitting the pavement." You only have to write the part of the story which you find interesting, leaving everything else out will make it better. There's no reward for hitting a word count.

Mewscaper is actually a master at this. With only a few sentences he can make a far more vivid scenario than most captions.

If given the opportunity, would you wear a suit, that would look mostly inconspicuous under normal clothing, that when hooked up to an air pump would envelop you in some form of pooltoy? What species, exaggerated feminine or masculine features, etc. entirely variable.
Cutouts and splits in it so you can still walk around and breath in the thing of course, but basically an approximation of the closest you could get to experiencing an IRL rapid transformation into something non human (a pooltoy or something with a similar aesthetic in this case)?

(Don't give a shit about pooltoys specifically myself, just the only likely avenue that could be realistically recreated in reality.)

>>
>>79347116
It wears off as soon as you stop listening to christmas music for 1 hour. The christmas music will continue during the whole shift. Due to the personality change, you will listen to Christmas music on the drive home. Once you are home, you will listen to Christmas music as you decorate for the season. Tired and exhausted, you will play Christmas music to lull yourself to sleep. Of course you'll also have changed your alarms to Christmas music to start the day off right. While you're getting dressed and ready for the day, you'll whistle christmas music to yourself, and when you're driving back to your store, you'll tune your radio to Christmas music too.

Does anyone else find it weird when TF is permanent, but it's inflicted in a means that, by all accounts, probably shouldn't be? Like, you're telling me that you're some all powerful god like being that turned a girl into a dragon, completely changing her species, but turning her back is "Impossible"? Like, just say that you refuse to turn her back, it's bad enough that you're out here transforming people for shits and giggles, don't be a liar too.

I'm not complaining about the idea of it being/not being permanent, more so when it actually being permanent seems unlikely.

Yeah, I'm really annoyed by it too.
>We've created a machine that can turn you into ANY animal in the world!
>Oh, but not humans.

>Abra Ka-girl! With my magic, I can swap your body with a woman's!
>Oh, but only once. I can body swap, but I can't do it again.

>Ooo~ You are sinking deep into a trance~ You believe you're a dog SO much, you'll turn into one~
>But if someone were to hypnotize you to think you're a different, that'd fail. No becoming a cat or anything, you're a dog forever.

It isn't hard to explain why turning a character back isn't feasible. Just saying "It's permanent and foreverial" is bad because it's showing the hand of the author instead of exploring why it's difficult to reverse a transformation. Big fat red text instead of world building or showing how a character's descriptions prevent the transformation from being reversed.

Far better from any mention of "permanent" is showing the character trying to turn back, and why it fails. The ending of cave story comes to mind, where Sue can be turned back into a human for ~3 seconds before a sneeze sends her back to bnuuy. Of course, the fact that we don't have any words to describe a transformation that won't reverse itself without implying some continuous force that will stick to the character thwarting any future transformations, I expect to see the word permanent many more times.
>>
>>79347931
I think it can easily be done as in "This was made by a culture or species that views this transformation as a step towards enlightenment and thus never intended for anyone to go back" but yeah having some omnipotent being outside of a genie just not do it for no reason is pretty stupid.
>>
>>79347931

>>
>>79347931
*Sigh* Transformation magic requires pristine bodies. Once you change somebody, arcane residue remains in their new form. If you're a student of the history of transmutation you may have heard the term "system shock". Used to be that applied to every transformation, even when the target is completely uncontaminated. Back then, every TF had the risk of leaving the target a ball of corrupted matter, which, as you can imagine, is rather fatal to living beings. Now we have advanced to the point that most first-try transformations are free from the risk of system shock, and simple transformations like petrification are easily reversible without risk. But an indefinite species change? You're just going to make purple meatballs if you try to revert those.
>>
>>79348755
You're wasting your breath trying to explain this to them. If they cared about any of this they could easily just pick up a rudamentary tome of transformation magic themselves. They don't want an explanation this is just come from a place of "wah just wave your hands and say the spell backwards and turn me into a human again with your wacky magic." You can tell the hooves and claws that are typing these messages don't have any magical ability at all.
>>
>>79348811
Well if they really want me to attempt to turn them back I'm certainly happy to try. Curiously we've had precious few sapient volunteers to help us work out the remaining kinks, so wizardkind would be grateful for their... ahem... donation to the cause of arcane research. Though I'm not too sure their next of kin would agree with that sentiment.
>>
>Sir, there's been another temporal breach. The wizards are posting online again.

>>
>>79348755
So rather than saying "Your form is unstable and turning back is dangerous", you say "You're stuck eternally forever and permanently". Thanks for being forthright and letting us know our chances of braving system shock, real helpful wizfag. How many people do you think have died because they tried to turn back anyways and you didn't tell them what they're dealing with? You can't convince me there's no way to manage arcane residue when we've got so many druids too, transforming into every animal under the sun whenever they feel like.
>>
>>79349277
You never even have any idea of the magic that was used to turn you into stuff. You're always just coming up and saying it was capital M magic like it's all the same thing. Did you trigger a lingering curse from an object? Was it fae, demonic, manmade? Did you TF into someone who is cursed to be as least helpful as possible.

Half the time someone rolls up and I can just look at the leylines they're trodding on and I just know they are fucked. If you could perceive those you wouldn't even bother asking about being turned back.

And now they're bringing up druids like it's some sort of gotcha. Sure, I bet you have mastered a connection with nature so complete that you exist among in the forrest as more of a concept and your physical form is just a formality of your pledge to natural world.

Of course I never know what kind of magic was used, none of you ever say! You act like it's our own fault for being muggles when you're the ones constantly lying about how magic works and cursing every tome that could answer our questions.

You know, for all this trying to justify only telling someone that their transformation was permanent, I have never once heard of any kind of spellcaster other than a priestess stuck in a body they don't like. You all get zapped by the exact same things we all do, so how do you explain that?
>>
>>79349673
Of course we won't elaborate on the kind of magic at play, else you would try to dabble in it. And if there's one thing all kinds of magic have in common it is that they are hideously dangerous in the hands of an amateur like yourself! As for the transformation of the self: do you know what my hand feels like right now? I do. One knows their own body leagues better than that of another. Which is rather important when you're shifting about bones, ligaments, tendonds and other various tissues and body parts. Especially when you need the precision to avoid the aforementioned system shock.

*Sigh* look at all the time that took to properly explain. Now I'm going to be late for very important wizarding stuff. And THAT is why we say "we can't": cause a wizard never arrives late!

Returning to an exact form being difficult I can understand, but a lot of the time when the "permanent" trope is invoked, it's saying the character can never transform into ANYTHING else again which is a lot harder to justify.
>>
>>79351150
>What do you mean "use the machine again to turn me back"? It's a sexdollinator, not a humanizator or transformationator!
>Eh, sooo... slight problem. The machine wasn't supposed to work on humans. At all. And it seems to somehow have improvised to do so anyway. Yea, our tech guys don't get it either, but you're going to be stuck like that until somebody figures out how it did that and how to undo it.

I had one recently where the protag turned into a kobold via a potion and the exact reasoning as for why they couldn't turn them back was:

How do you imagine it feels to have a null bulge? Is it ultra sensitive? Not sensitive at all? Something else?

I like the idea that it's really sensitive, but as soon as you get one, you don't feel the need for release anymore. You press it, and it feels good, but it isn't building up to anything. You could keep squishing it all day long and it won't get any stronger than when you started, and when you let go, the sensation fades immediately without leaving you wanting more.

If they had somehow mass produced big zams it would have definitely changed the tide of the war.
Its sheer power and speed is unmatched and the I-field projector leaves it it invulnerable to the most commonly used weaponry of the time. It literally held off a feddy assault fleet by itself.
But actually mass producing it would have been impossible. That plan was pure propaganda. The single unit they had wasn't even ready for mass-production. It was a prototype at best.
