I have drawn a few pieces myself (mostly for fanfics I posted) to satiate my need for more "on-model" artwork because so many artists either have an ugly art style, or they draw Kagome with massive fucking mommy milkers, but worst of all, they make InuYasha a buff dude with a 6 pack when he is quite obviously supposed to be a cute little twink like Link is. Link also sadly gets very little straight or solo on-model stuff which also annoys me.

I also tend to think only the first 50 or so episodes of InuYasha are the very best; everything after that is good too, but not always, especially once they get into the band of seven arc which I find drags too long and was really dumb in some aspects and broke my "feudal Japan" immersion with the mechanical / cyborg character. Worst arc ever.

To keep things on-topic, did anyone else get "I'm jealous" vibes from Nick (as much as I dislike it being resident WildeHopps-anti) when Judy and Pawbert were conversing in the ballroom? Pawbert seemed quite taken with her and was lowkey checking her out before she saw Gary on the ceiling.

I get that he's a bad guy and almost certainly did bump into her on purpose, I just wish he got to be a good guy :( forever sad they went with the twist villain thing, I called it in the theatre while I was watching hoping it wouldn't be true but I was right all along.

It would have been much more satisfying if Pawbert had a change of heart. Seeing Gary thrown into the snow, looking sad, cold, and shivering made me feel so sad and heartbroken for the poor little guy. I don't get why Pawbert would want anything to do with his family considering how they treated him and made him work in the mail room. They were awful to him through and through, so why was he so desperate for their approval?

I like the consistency of character depictions. I'm not as strict for off-models myself but I do find it aggravating when people keep drawing small and modest breasted women with huge honkers, it takes away their charm points. As for Inuyasha himself, ottermode athletic twunk is his best build. I don't think he should be depicted as a body builder given his speed facing much large much larger demons. Important question though: does he have a knot?

Most of his best work is on Twitter by Asian artists. They give him the poignant hero look that he deserves.

Because he actually admired their ways, that's the difference between conviction and being a lesser individual. He worked hard because he wanted to be a real big shot like his family, who was capable of holding a whole legacy all off just stealing one thing. He was shown the value of business in the cut throat world and the reality of how hard work like he was doing was made for people beneath the best in the world. It wasn't just about the approval, it was about actually being part of the best he was always able to see. Working like a commoner and living a normal life, all things that none of them had to do and if he could achieve it then he'd be like them and part off the betters.

A lesser person, a bigger person, could easily say that it's wrong and that you should always do the right thing and good will eventually come. Some people equally acknowledge that sometimes hard work can genuinely mean nothing in the long run for some. Why live like everyone else if you could easily reach for the chance to be above it all especially if you've only ever been on one side of the fence.

Pawbert actually sticking to the same morals, uninhibited by his family or even being prompted to pursue it, actually does show how he was truly willing to think for himself and make his own call rather than just choosing what would be 100% easier and going to live a simple life by just abandoning his family. It shows that he's willing to have greater values beyond just morals and that like anyone else he actually does have his own ambition by any means necessary

Listen I got an interesting proposition, more so a scenario if anything. We all know that birds are gonna be the focus of the next film and there was even an Anon who said that it will release in 2029 to coincide with the Chinese Year of the Rooster two threads back (he even went as far as saying that the year represents fidelity meaning that Wildehopps will happen as well).

My little thought experiment is this: What level of sentience do you guys think birds will have?

Fish don't have any thoughts behind those eyes as far as Zootopia 2 is concerned, and bugs & insects also follow this same rule as well (i.e the famous Bug-Burga). Poultry is a relatively human made evolutionary tale, same as modern day cats and dogs so the idea of it probably won't exist for Zootopia's world as well. That doesn't stop us from asking why it took three films to get to this point, so I am thinking that some species of birds were still bred just like the sheep we see in film - but they fucked it up big time. Sheep still have the modern wool content for self-domestication purposes, and they are shown to be a little more dim than other species. Maybe chickens exist but their mental side effects were much more heavier to the point where the mammals were disgusted with what they had done, and outcasted them.

Maybe the shadiest of places would have taken soms of them in a sold them as a high value commodity meal. Maybe there are more restrictions on it than fish because it is a Zootopian creation rather than a natural creation. Just something to engage about, I don't know, you tell me! I'm very interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

I'm of the understanding that Pawbert is the youngest of the Lynxleys, Gary is the oldest (but his closest relatives are a teen and a kid so I don't know).

I honestly think that Gary, Pawbert, and Judy are all around the same age range. Definitely in their mid 20's, with Pawbert being the younger of this trio. I'd maybe go as far as saying he's probably like 19 compared to them, the equivalent of like a freshman surrounded by graduate students.

Gary being a late teen to me could work but I think he's been planning this for a while, and his level of optimism (which could be read as naivety) just gives off the impression of a younger person. That's why I think he's probably the same age as Judy in this instance.

Yeah I very much enjoyed reading the whole comic, I know it's supposed to be Zistopia-esque but with its own identity. Once I got through that hurdle, I started to understand it a lot better.

No spoilers but the differing origin for Nick and his family was a fresh new breath from what I have previously seen. His story with Judy was really nice (even if he couldn't stop himself from putting his hands on her), and the pay off was certainly worth it in the end!

I was thinking since it's gonna be a little darker, the author might go full edge but I was pleasantly surprised at the end. thewyvernsweaver also did a great job at illustration for the first part, the lack of colour really highlights the narrative it's pushing for.

Ha, that would just be the perfect way to end of the Zootopia trilogy only to begin the next trilogy. I'm not sure what the plan is for Nick and Judy but I am really hoping for that dopamine critical moment when they confirm Wildehopps.

If they do decide to go through with it, I'd assume that would be the wrap for their story. Yes, you can go ahead and continue with more and more cases, but it seems that both movies at this point have developed the foundation for their relationship. You can't just keep breaking their relationship only for them to come back together in the end again (unless it makes a shit ton of money).

I think if your new beginnings idea was to come into fruition, then I think we would see a new pairing together for the fourth film (nuts I know, but hey maybe we might get Jack Savage and Skye after all).

I personally can't see them having anything less than the same levels of sentience/consciousness/intelligence as the mammals and reptiles do. It does raise some difficult questions but I've thought a bit about how they could potentially be answered, and wrote up a very quick Act One treatment for where I think they could go with it in Zootopia 3, assuming that they decide to continue with the theme of Nick and Judy bringing down xenophobic villainous plots and building bridges between the different animal taxonomic classes. If this sounds familiar to anyone it's because I posted a slightly less refined version of this in an earlier thread.

Open on Nick & Judy in a diner having coffee together before work.
In the background, a TV cuts into a breaking news bulletin, drawing their attention. The newsreader begins describing an unfolding situation in neighbouring Birdonia.
An inexplicable natural disaster (drought, extreme snowfall, etc.) has caused a crisis in Birdonia.
Bird refugees start arriving in Zootopia.
At first everyone welcomes them and tries to make them feel at home. For the moment, things look hopeful.
After a few weeks though, the disaster that made birds leave their homes starts to reach the farmlands around Zootopia, causing shortages
Some mammals start blaming the refugee birds for what's happening.
Old "East vs. West" tensions begin reigniting, also causing some mammals to be untrustworthy and suspicious of birds ("Didn't these animals used to be our enemy? Why the hell are we helping them when we can't even feed ourselves!").
The ZPD is working overtime to keep the peace as arguments and protests break out across the city.
A massive theft of food supplies takes place.
Judy and Nick get assigned to investigate.
They find a feather at the crime scene. Chief Bogo and the mayor tell them to keep it a secret for now.
Judy and Nick identify the feather. Only one bird of that species has arrived in Zootopia so far.
They track them down. They promise Nick and Judy that they're innocent and that they've been framed, but they aren't able to prove it. Nick and Judy believe them, but decide to keep an eye on them anyway.
Meanwhile, the evidence somehow leaks to the press. Suddenly the whole city knows about it.
Nick and Judy rush to protect the suspect bird, but when they see the pair coming at them, they think they're about to be arrested, panic and fly away, disappearing into hiding.
No one is able to figure out how the feather at the crime scene was leaked to the press. Judy and Nick begin to suspect there might be more to this case than they first thought.

I can see having a very small bit of sympathy for him in the sense that we as the omniscient viewers know his entire family basically mentally abuse him. However you are correct that he had two olive branches one from Gary and one from Judy so he overall gets home from me. He was molded by his family, possibly physically abused on top of mentally, but in the end chose to try and murder 4 people. That we know of. The most kindness he could possibly be fortunate to get is Gary coming to visit him, and even that would be too generous.

Right now, my hyperfixation is InuYasha since rewatching the entire show, in order, with movies in late 2023 / ear ly 2024. I've started a rewatch and gotten up to movie 1 in hopes I'll actually finish my long-form smut fic.

I was contacted by a guy who liked the fetish I was writing and asked if I would take commissions. I had never done it before so I just wrote what I felt was a good sequel to the fic he commissioned one for and then asked for $50 because it felt about right to me. The next one which is more than double the first ended up being triple the price, but I'm still unsure how to price completely if I'm being honest. There's a lot of factors to consider; wordcount, subject matter (how confident am I that I can do it to my own high standards?), fetish, etc.

Those are good. I think another obvious one would be Michael J. Fox would... be a fox. As would his family in Back to the Future, by extension. I wonder what Doc would be...

It's so old but I posted a comic adaptation way back in 2018 on paheal. But it's really bad quality. The cover's on my old FA (where I also posted a handful of Zootopia scraps) Probably ironic of me to hate NickxJudy on crossbreeding but totally into LinkxMedli. My reasoning (though retarded it seems) is Rito (in WW exclusively) are mostly human-like, just have bird beaks for noses, wings, and bird feet, but otherwise look close to Hylian. (I would not ship BoTW Link with a Rito for example) I'm fine with "interspecies" as it were if both parties (to me) look close enough. So fox x coyote or coyote x dog etc is cool, and even interesting to me more than dog x dog. I have no idea why SLIGHT difference is cool for me in pairings. I also enjoy the idea of lion x leopard.

A quick look what what you've written, here's a quick few tips:
You spend too much time trying to make sure the reader knows exactly what you want to say, rather than trusting them enough to actually understand and be able to read intention in your prose. This can make things feel clunky to read. For example, if a character agrees with another character you don't need "he agreed" to replace "he said". Instead just drop it completely. We know he agreed. We read him literally saying it. You don't need to repeat that a character mispronounced something when you've already phonetically written it out how they've mispronounced it. We read them mispronounce it.
It reminds me of Ernest Cline and how he will make a reference, and then make sure that you, fully understood what the reference was from rather than just trusting that the people that bought the book full of 80s and 90's references would understand an 80's or 90's reference.

You're also like me and really abuse commas and make some real long ass sentences. You could try cutting that down. This can help with the first point. If you're no longer adding in all of these extra thoughts, your writing will feel more like you trust the reader to be able to understand what you're saying.
You also like em dashes, though you format them wrong. In most writing programs you can use two hyphens instead of one, there's also no spaces around them when you use them. An em dash should bump right up against the words. Also everyone will probably immediately assume you use AI. If you're wanting to keep using them, (especially for things like asides, or extra information, which is what I use them for) then try using brackets instead. Em dashes are also used to replace commas to keep sentences going, but that could just lead to the same existing issue I have with your prose of you just kind of keep going with it.

Thank you for the pointers. I'm always looking to improve. I do this mostly as a hobby when the desire to write hits me once a month or so (if I've been watching something which makes me wanna write) and I have been scared of being accused of being AI. I've read a few AI stories before, clocked them right away. I hate it. I knew I was using the "wrong" dash because I couldn't figure out how to get the "real" one to show. I write in notepad. I tend to be overdescriptive to a fault due to wanting to assure I get my point across, but I agree I go overboard for sure. I always struggle with it because my brain says "more words = better". I know I'm not perfect.

I've been writing (and using the wrong emdash lol) since middle school (~2014 onwards), so I hope my history (and progression) of posting should make it obvious, though, that I'm just a real person who likes using the dash cause I feel like it "diversifies" my writing / paragraphs and makes them "less boring" looking. Silly, I guess.

I think it's old and bad (comic and fic) but they are both very old and I've improved in both drawing and writing since then. Always struggled with human-like characters, but seemingly I struggle more drawing Nick. Zootopia style foxes are so hard to draw, so I've only done that a handful of times.

I'll say this, a style is a style. I like how when you're not being overly or repetitively descriptive your writing can come across very conversational. This is something Brandon Sanderson does in most of his Secret Projects cosmere books, since those stories are stylized as being told to you by a storyteller in the world.

Try intentionally copying the style of authors you like, and take what works for you from them, and drop what doesn't. This is how most artists start to develop their own styles.

Fun thing to think over: Pawbert's family may have put him in the mail room but they neither kicked him out nor disowned him, they even told him the greatest family secret and even seeminly still actually pay him either a fair wage or the same as the rest given he had the money for a motorcycle and to hire a whole dude to smuggle in Gary. Not to mention, it's never really said they hate him or that he did anything wrong in the film meaning their neglect or more accurately ambivalence may or may not have just been their own form of tough love that even his siblings went through till even they did something to prove themselves to show that they were actually family material.

Personally, I think it will be insect farms.
Think about it, reptiles have a crushing majority of carnivores and kill each other to survive, it's fine for them. But birds have the same disparity as mammals.
They would have to fight for a way to live together, and then a genius bird (probably a rooster) would invent insect husbandry and make peace among birds possible. His natural autrism, stemming from him not having a sliver of mammal blood on him, forces him to look down at the predators and prey killing each other (they werent hungry its just their natural state of genuine psychopathic behaviors), would shed a single tear to introduce insect farms to them. Then an evil tiger man in the past hated that idea, because he was a chud. So he made a smear campaign that all roosters are dumb and stole the idea and became rich with insect farms. Now back to today, someone is hellbent into revealing the truth behind the prey and predators handshake portrait, that there were birds there! And that portrait is the key to clearing the rooster name and saving Zootopia!

Lowkey, I am a part of this mentality too. I mean, I wouldn't be opposed toward sentient birds but I think that is the direction that Z3 is going towards.

I would love for preds to have more options in terms of food other than bugs and fish. Seeing how our mammals in blue reacted to the consumption of the latter however, I think that there is going to be a plot point that is centered around that. Maybe somewhere they are about to chop up a poor rooster before they speak their first word.

ZNN reports that sentience comes to birds, and there is a mass phenomenon of birds finally being able to stand with the mammals. Radical preds begin worrying how they're gonna cope or something, I think this might be a little nonsensical the more I think about it. I'd love for any insight you guys could offer!

A) they're already working on 3 and these are snippets of ideas for things to come and they don't mind teasing fans of the happy ending, though this seems unlikely as marriage would seem kind of early unless we get a bit of time skip with them having already moved in together to make them working together easier etc.
B) they do plan to make them a couple in 3, not marriage, and the creators know that just that will make them happy so teasing with wedding dresses and love imagery is ok and not, in the long run, malicious

Honestly I don't know which side of myself I'm on with this one. Both my optimistic and pessimistic side both seem kind of logical so I just don't know. I can't tell much, I wish I had the book with me! But this expression sheet from one of the artists shows two different kinds of eyes. I think that the yellow eyes are supposed to be when he is at his villainous stage, while his normal eyes are well... when he was normal.

Even one of the expressions was used to show when he was captured, I'll post that after this real quick.

Yeah, the horse hooves thing bothers me more than it probably should. Like when Winddancer takes his sunglasses off his hoof just sort of contorts into a pinching motion that doesn't really make sense. It's the kind of handwaving that Zootopia doesn't usually do.

Either way, the question of "If birds exist, then where are they?" has to be addressed somehow. I think if they're non-intelligent that makes it harder to answer. I posted my idea for how it could be explained earlier in >>80030030 but I guess nobody liked it.

Oh, dude. It broke my heart the first time I watched Zootopia 2 when Judy's on the floor dying and tries to reason with him and he shuts her down. It broke more for Judy than for Pawbert, to be fair, but still it was like "No, you can be better than that!"

Not sure if vegetarian preds are much of a thing in universe. I'm sure that they exist but I'm not sure how popular or encouraging they possibly are. Obviously we see peanut butter is already a popular dish from Nick's perspective in his apartment, Judy even teases him about it.

It would be sort of interesting to find out the diets of most of the animals in Zootopia, maybe bugs is only for the lower class while poultry is a much more expensive dish due to its exclusivity or regulations. Another accessibility to issue to explore I guess.

This is certainly an interesting setup and I good excuse for birds' current absence. I don't completely hate the idea of intelligent birds, but I do think unintelligent livestock animals should be kept and cultivated (perhaps even by the birds themselves; many birds of prey eat other birds, after all) for carnivores to keep themselves well-nourished.

I like this take. This has been my headcanon, that chicken restaurants exist in-universe because I can't fathom preds eating exclusively bugs and nuts for protein. It would be such an unfulfilling existence, food would be so boring. But I love chicken so I'm extremely biased.

On another note, this art style (despite being off-model) is super cute and I especially love how Judy is drawn in the second panel. In fact, Judy looks better than Nick in this style. Cool to see someone else having the same idea of chicken places and having actually drawn it to boot.

On the subject of preds, does anyone else think (hypothetically) if a pred was having a foot race with a (slightly faster) naturally-prey-to-them mammal, could prey-drive (like in Greyhounds) be mistakenly awakened? Could a pred chasing after a prey in what's supposed to be a fun foot race feel a desire to bite, doing so without even thinking it, but immediately stopping upon blood being drawn and horrifyingly realizing what they've done?

I am asking because this sounds like a fun setup for drama. If a pred bites a prey but doesn't kill them or didn't intend to kill when they did so, do they get the death penalty? Are they put down like a dog is in real life for biting? Curious what ya'll think

Hmm, I don't know. It feels contradictory to what we're told in the first movie, where supposed "aggressive predator instincts" being reactivated were actually the result of drugs, for lack of a better term, which we're canonically told has the same effect on prey animals too.

It's a hard call to make because we're also shown that animals do retain some of their other wild instincts in some form or another, and that it feels good for them to indulge in them.

I can't see why it wouldn't be treated that differently to if a human bit another human in real life The law would take into consideration all the different factors and context at play in deciding on a punishment.

Then when this story breaks out, other avian species begin to speak as well and it just becomes a phenomenon. The world of Zootopia reacts to a new family of species joining society. Just something to ponder about :D

Weaver's style of Zootopia translated into his Roommates series is the pic related btw. You can kind of see how Rooster/Chickens would be about the same size of bunnies or rabbits.

In the original concept of Zootopia Nick did want a place where predators could live out their instincts in a safe space, and prey-drive could definitely be a possibility.

I know he had a theme park in mind, but I really thought it was less about satisfying natural instincts and more about having the collar off to enable more "extreme" emotions like excitement from a roller coaster which ordinarily would trigger the collar's shock since it thinks the predator is getting "too excited" and about to bite/maim/kill with no way to differentiate between emotions. This of course raises the question if, in that universe, sex is a problem for preds who are collared. How does the collar know the excitement / heartrate increase is from arousal?

Speaking on the Lynxleys, would their father be appalled if Pawbert met a cute caracal or bobcat or a serval lady and brought her home to meet his family? Would he be disgusted and think those cats (of whom are quite similar, fill similar niches within their own habitats) are lesser than them, too? What do the Lynxleys think of lions or cats larger than them?

It's a shame they're a family of bad guys because these wildcat breeds are some of my favourite animals so it would have been nice to get some positive screentime with characters of a cat species. It would be nice if they made a slice-of-life Zootopia show (haven't watched Z+ yet, not sure if it's really this exactly) where we can see day-to-day lives of various mammals around the city regardless of continuity / what's happening with Nick and Judy or any other pre-established characters. But I am rambling. I just would love to see more of the world.

Eh, sort of... The last episode is the closest to what you're thinking of, but it still finds a way to tie into a scene from the first movie at the very end like the rest of them do. It's about an otter waitress trying to get all her tables served before she needs to leave to go to a Gazelle concert. Apart from that one episode, they're all focused on characters that were already seen in Z1 either before, during, or after they appeared in the movie.

Not necessarily. You basically always have to ask what someone means by furry because theres actually not socially set definition that people agree on because it is so taboo to talk about.

So if fursuits, cons and alternate personas are needed then I think very few qualify, if its just enjoying all anthro media then its almost too encompassing because lots of kids love Zootopia but few would call them furries for that.

Speaking of, Zootopia Id say is kind of its own fandom. I was into furry stuff before Zoot but seeing Zoot 1 in theater really lit a flame for this universe and characters in particular, I really view it was a separate entity that just has overlap with furry fandoms. So no you are not insane at all.

Just plain birds, with their wings being wings instead of hands, and holding things with their feet and beak.

That's the design language of Zootopia, and why I don't think its necessary to make them sapient.

We have a talking bird movie coming with Rio3 that almost the same with the exception of them not wearing clothes.

Zootopia has a chance of doing something unique by making birds part of the world-building of the LARGER world, outside the scope of civilization.

Birds are the only remaining wildelife that spreads seeds of fruit-trees by eating the fruit and pooping out the seed further away from the tree. No other animal can do that, not spiders or slugs or any insect, and definitely not frogs since no amphibian is herbivorous.

For nature in Zootopia's universe to remain balanced and functional, birds need to wild animals.

The question you should ask is, has the millions of years of evolution also changed how various animals process food. Big cats can eat other things, but literally need to eat meat to survive. They also don't really have a taste receptor for sweetness. Given how long it takes to go from crawling animal to upright walker perhaps all animals are more like omnivores now. Or perhaps only the ones without a ready food source that didn't evolve enough to make them feel bad about eating.
