It would imply Dess has a very troubled mental state - either as a byproduct of being Knighted or if it was like that prior - and it would make Seam's prospect of "purifying" the crystals much more intriguing. The entire game is built almost like a memorial to her loss and her ongoing memory, so would purifying the crystals be a way of trying to see the positive side of her, maybe for the last time?
