Basically, Princesses have two stats that can unlock scenes. The first is Love and the second is Lust.
The thing is, leveling lust above 0 increases chances of battle fuck which can result in corruption. Corruption increases the level of succubi around and if a princess' corruption is above a certain level they transform into a succubus version.
The NTR controversy in particular has to do with rando enemies being allowed to molest and sex the princesses in your party if their lust is leveled. This caused the artist at the time to get mad, clash with the dev over it, legal dispute over Towergirls IP which forced dev to rename and change a bunch of things, so on.
There were and still are solutions to avoid battle fuck though. You can level and use the MC to battle or better yet use a progeny with only combat stats. Now there's an option in the settings to toggle the battlefuck mechanic off as well.
