Just beat Expedition 33. Somehow, it lived up to the thrall hype it has been getting all year and I'm quite picky with games.

>>80250551In all honesty it doesn't too much in the way of truly unique mechanics or game design outside the parry/dodge shit in combat to keep it more active. What I DO love about the game mechanically is that basically everything it uses is polished over and great. Crafting doesn't exist, the closest to it is upgrading your weapons which can be done by killing specific enemies, crafting upgrades (literally 1 item craft climbs that aren't hard to get), or finding a higher level version of the weapon later on if possible. There is basically no grinding and you outpace the game if you explore its content a bit. The super bosses (optional) are a bit annoying and I opted not to really fuck with them after it took 20+ minutes to fight some of them because I didn't build meta and my dmg wasn't that insane. Fast travel is semi-accessible but not to the point where exploration is non-existent also you get it later on like a FF game where your Highwind gets upgraded to travel to more places. Also each character plays somewhat uniquely in flavor but end game sees builds condense towards a single idea of sorts. I really loved their take on the blue mage because it wasn't like pulling fucking teeth as FFX was.Narratively speaking the game is quite enablable to the very end and it isn't too trite as to be something you can predict, at least to any specific accuracy. They do a damn good job of constantly withholding enough to just spell shit out for you and if you are one to playthrough a game more than once it'll give a second meaning to a lot of dialoge in the game. I pounding 70 hours out in 5 days during Xmas week and raped the content of the game. While I wouldn't say it was my favorite it is #3 for me.
