Seems like "start drawing" wasn't a popular new years resolution this year.Does the anatomy and head look good here? does she look A cup? the interior lines for the breasts won't have lineart, they are just a guideline to show the slight volume with shading later.
No matter what I've tried so far, I'm not happy with the background. It's not the focus of the picture, I just don't want it to clash with the wacky color flourishes I'm going for. Any suggestions?

how long would it take to get high int level if i grinded everyday for 6-8 hours
>>80401414Aye, the head looks much better, as do the tits even if the changes there aren't as extensive. It's always surprising how much of an effect even small changes can have. I'd say you're ready to proceed to the next stage with this project.>>80401823You mean the color flourishes in the lineart? I'd say they're fairly harmonious with the background, to the point of perhaps blending in a bit too much. Maybe try desaturating the background a bit and see if that makes things stand out more. Alternatively, try shifting the colors away from being perfectly harmonious with a hue shift filter.>>80404174>>80391252>I've chased a realistic 50s/60s inspired art style for long enough that I'm beginning to get tired of it. I don't want to draw a lot of the stuff that's associated with those styles, or at least don't want to grind them enough to get things down pat. I'm more and more tempted by exaggerated, cartoonish stuff that deliberately rejects the stuff I've studied for so long. But people like that stuff more anyway, so, I'm excited.Usually, it's best to go with your gut on these kinds of things. The studies you've done on more realistic stuff should serve you well with more stylized designs as well, since it's taught you the importance of observing and evaluating even the smallest details. And when you're simplifying, every detail counts for more because there will be less of them for an audience to get lost in, so getting them right is even more important. Looking forward to seeing how your style evolves.
>>80405055We can only hopeI just need to get focused on speed and consistency. Draw a million things forever.
Hi /dig/. Any suggestions on improving the girl in this, given she's intended to be more on the loli/cub side? Perspective, proportions, cute factor, etchttps://files.catbox.moe/m8fqzb.pngAlready got the following from a kind anon in the general drawthread>too tall>too broad shoulders>need to upscale the hands a bit>downscale or maybe flatten breasts
>>80406739What age do you want her to be? she can pass off as underage but like 14-16 at the very least. The head is off center on the shoulders, as you were told, too tall, if you want her to be cute, make her about 4 heads tall. Her legs are far too long, should be about half her height, arms are too small and thin.https://youtu.be/qK7xwva1Ul4?si=7tXHo0IyaeavVy-6&t=2720check this video, great resource for not eyeballing proportions anymore. I'd recommend you watch the whole thing but there's the skeleton for a small loli type on the timestamp.

>been saving guides and pdfs and speedpaints and inspirational art pieces but not practicing, just going back to comfort zone draws again and againI initially started drawing as a form of therapy but I really wanna get better. I need some guidance.
>>80409856>Literally something i mentioned last threadSEE I'M NOT CRAZY. what do you need help with buddy.
>>80409874Preferably some kind of daily routine or ritual that I can't ignore that pertains to practicing fundamentals. Something that forces me to stop simply looking at videos of other people drawing and then imitate them half-assedly
>>80409915you have any goal level you wanna hit? As well as how often and long you draw? Would help.
>>80409915NTALook at it this way: drawing is a lot like speedrunning (of videogames). It DOES NOT MATTER how good you are at one section, what matters is getting over the finish line. It sucks at the start, nobody is born able to draw. Learning to learn is more important, the more you learn the more you should see as things to be learnt. Now, to get back to the question you actually asked. Drawing isn't a science that you can simply copy the process of. Try different things to their conclusion and figure out what works for you.
>>80410011I wanna be able to better draw humans confidently (I moreso draw cartoons, and mainly creatures like Pokemon besides) and I'd say I draw around 10-15 minutes at sporadic times throughout the day.>>80410037I'll take that in mind, thank you.
>>80410082this is gonna be a big ask homie, but can you post your work? It'd be nice to know what we're working with. If you've drawn creatures like pokemon and whatnot, already shows capability to draw organic shapes and characters. What i would suggest is setting aside time for art/drawing. 10-15 minutes around the clock sounds a bit disorganized and it'll be harder to focus and actually learn if the consistency is not there. There are books i'd suggest, like Hampton, bridgeman, villpu, but that's kinda after we set the environment first for drawing. I'm about to get real ONIONS, but what runs through your mind when you sit down to draw? Frustration? fatigue? Belief that you can't do it?
>>80410166Here's some sketches I made earlier today; whenever I draw something other than Pokemon it's usually Sonic scrimblos or random creatures willy nilly. I'd say I'm constantly frustrated even when drawing these comfort characters. My mind often loops over "I wish I was better" and "I need to get better" but when thinking of an answer I blank out.
>>80406739I'll add to what general drawthread anon pointed out with fixing the wrist and toes. Both are bending more than looks naturally comfortable. Can't find much reference for the feet with a quick search, but here's something kinda sorta similar for the hand.
>>80410284im gonna give you a hail mary and drop my discord if you wanna talk more extensively (lucca.iww), but what i will say is, you have to find someway to brute force through that mindset. The best way to do this is to make yourself as comfortable as possible and focus on a singular task at a time, and breakdown what you want to do in small digestible pieces. For anatomy for instance, that will seem incredibly overwhelming for a beginner or someone not familiar with it. So you start off with basic shapes that make up a body. The hampton book is really good at this in it's earlier sections, using the primary shapes of Spheres, Cubes and Cylinders to achieve this. This way, you can feel achieved or atleast like you "did something" while you took your first steps in studying/solving a problem. That doesn't mean just draw those shapes over and over and over, but that's not the point. Right now we just need to make sure you consistently draw something.
Ugh, feels like I am not feeling anything while trying to draw now... maybe another cup of coffee will help.I think I'm going to add another panel to my previous drawing and try something simple to warm up again.>>80410284Not sure if it helps, but I do think they look cool.
yesterday's practice
>>80409321very nice
>>80411291Good shit but WORK ON THOSE HANDS, SOLDIER!
>>80411596Not the focus of the practice whatsoever so I most likely will not
>>80411631I found myself a lot more comfortable with hands if I made sure to draw fingers every time I drew a handThe one you did draw is very nice, though
>>80410501Thanks anon. Are working from refs common? I've just been freeballing so far (and I guess it probably shows).>>80406917Thanks again for the video anon, good stuff
>>80412388>Are working from refs common?Very common. I doubt you'd find an industry professional who doesn't use reference material in nearly every project. The human mind can only memorize so much, keeping reminders handy is crucial if you want to keep your stuff consistent. Most of the time, you only need some specifics, like the wrist and hand positioning in this case, so you only need to use the reference material for that specific part. Still haven't come across anything for the feet, so you'll probably have better luck finding some reference for it yourself. If all else fails, try photographing yourself doing the same pose.
>>80412373Yeah, like I drew it out because in that one instance I wanted to draw the hand for the sake of the practice, but in doing that I realized it wasn't the focus so I just said screw it.This year my focus is simply to understand the proportions and stylings of anime artwork through recreation. Things like HOW the body is drawn, how thin or thick something should be, common placement of eyes, common shape of eyes. Often times what happens (Because I already have a drawing style I'm comfortable with) I'll fall back on draw methods that I'm normally use cause my pieces to look really inconsistent from pose to pose
>>80412905example. These three are not draw super far away from each other. 1 and 2 were drawn like one immediately after the other and the third one was drawn like 2 months after. Very much in a stylistic transitional stage where other elements are not as important to me as becoming consistent within my drawing method
how does one draw consistently. I already failed my new years resolution to draw daily.
>>80413010Have something you can draw with minimum effort even if you have no actual ideas on what you want to draw, or set up a goal to draw something from reference via recreation (It's what I do) For me it's cubes and shit like >>80412905or >>80411291. Cubes are overly easy to do as a daily drawing practice.
>>80413010just draw daily nigga. Start with 15 minutes a day for a week, then 30 minutes the next week. Then continue on. Don't try to do avant-garde ass shit where u draw for 6-7 hours daily like everyone says they will do (but then barely make it past the first 30 minutes). Build up to it. >>80413064 this helps if you don't know what to draw. Just pick something and move your pencil. Less thinky, more drawy.
>>80413064>>80413147isn't doing cubes a beg trap? I thought it was bad?
>>80413250anything is a /beg/ trap if you do things mindlessly with 0 intent. But you said your problem was consistency, which comes before intent.
>>80413250It can easily be a beginner trap, but a lot of good tihngs can be beginner traps. Beginners are ignorant, they don't know how to utilize the tools they actively spend hours training to achieve. They often think the mere act of training to get the tool will some how make them good at building the objects of their desire. It does not, it only gives them the tools. Now you can use those tools to make learning other things easier, but you still need to do that extra part and not just constantly train for the tools.
it's genuinely over. I'm never gonna make it. I can't draw consistently for the life of me. I give up at most after 20 minutes, and everything feels overwhelming.
>>80413658Take it at your own pace nigga, whether it's 1 month or 10 years, draw when you can and when you're ready.
>>80413658How about this. literally just draw lines and squares and circles on a page for 10 minutes. That's it. The end. No more. Just 10 minutes of trying to draw a line straight and confident.
>>80413763i've waited for years to start drawing. And i always fuck up. I wanted to really try this year and come back. I'm running out of time to draw. I'm getting older, and plasticity is running up. I still want to get to a level that's even somewhat comparable to an online artist, but it seems so fucking far away. I don't know how anyone can actually draw every day?>>80413764i HAVE. I've done everything from full charging and as little as just moving my pen across the screen. It never works.
>>80413944Okay then lets go with this. Do you know how to draw spheres, cubes and lines? if so can you show them?
>>80413064Dumb question - advice for gitting gud at drawing crisp straight lines other than repetition? My hand wavers like a mofo, I usually correct digitally.I end up anchoring my wrist a lot if that makes sense, whenever I try to use my full range of arm motion it's spaghetti.
>>80413989it really is just repetition, heck I'm not even all that good at them and often have to draw liens 3-6 times over. I also dance around 0-15 in my art program slowly lowering the number to 0 completely to train myself. Just keep at it and learn when to use your wrist, your forearm and your shoulder. (Should be some tutorials on the usefulness of drawing from different anchor points)
>>80413988Here's whatever
>>80414166Do you have a tablet? What I'm about to tell you to do will be easier if you can do it digitally.
>>80414194I have a tablet, but it's somewhere in my closet. I hate using it since it reminds me of how retarded i am.
>>80414375Well grab it and use it again what you're going to be doing will be easier digital and it might sound antithetical, but someone in your position needs to focus on having some Ws under your belt no matter where they come from. So what I'm gonna need you do to now is show me the art of the people you want to draw like.
>>80414464it sounds laughable. But i want to be splashart level. Riot, Blizzard, WOW. That sorta level. But i'm turning 25 this year, and i know that shit is gonna take atleast a decade if i start now.
>>80414799Lol you remind me of weed anon but far more similar to me. Okay that is out of reach for you right now but keep in it in your mind as your ultimate goal. Who is the "Lowest Level" artist you admire would be happy to draw like in the now and I really do mean lowest level, try to be as objective as you possible can be.
>>80414844weed anon?>Lowest level artist you admire?I'm not sure, i would say Koyoharu Gotouge Demon slayer author.
>>80414969He's another anon here with similar goals, he smokes weed a lot so we call him weed anon. That is lower, but if that's as low as you can go then you need to search the internet for even lower. An example, my highest goal is like Dave Rapoza, but my lowest goal used to be someone like Gerphart. (It's not but if that gets the idea across)
>>80415066>alotit's a fair amount. Don't make me out to be some druggie.
>>80415242Nigga you were smoking like everyday you talked in these threads (Which was everyday)
>>80415066Maybe someone like eigaka? Thiccwitaq? Idk. I'm not too familiar with artists.
>>80415406Those are still pretty high, not as high as Riot/Blizzard artist, but still high. You see, what we're looking for here is someone you enjoy and would take at most a year for you to be at their level from where you currently are. Someone not too complex, or flexing great anatomy knowledge or amazing perspectives constantly, we want YOU to be able to study them directly and recreate their works without your struggling to do so.Do you have any artist that you like that is apart of that ballpark and if not, you need to find them! It's extremely important to your mental to do as such.
>>80415269I was not smoking everyday.I was taking edibles everyday.
>>80415518Kek, my mistake.
>>80415066Yeah it's crazy, like a handful of edibles and benadryl a day, we had to talk him down from starting crack.Good drawings though, great perspective skills and tits.
>>80408340Damn, he's hella purple. Either that pistol is Noisy Cricket-tier or akin to Samus's useless stun pistol. I'll accept no inbetweens. Also I need to see that goofy umbrella sword.>>80410284I understand that pervasive frustration and desire to improve what you create but with that said I think these sketches look great and have an intensity to their expressions that I find inspiring, anon. Might I ask if you can show off some of your pokemon stuff?>>80411231It might not be up your alley but a small page of (rushed) expression doodles usually gets me feeling good enough to do something in most cases. That and some extra espresso shots to harness that midnight energy better...here's one for you by the way.
>>80415491I think it might be over for me. Maybe art really isn't for me.
Today's sketch (I'm >>80406739). Played around with chibi sort of styling. Modeled the head and snout but had to trim down a bit from the basic shapes. Didn't model the body at all.No bits, but lmk if it needs to go in catbox in future anyway.
>>80416342An anon redlined my cub drawing (which was censored) with pussy and everything and didn't get banned. I think the jannies have some leniency for this place.
>>80416331Take your time homie, just find the type of folks I'm talking about. The issue is, is that you're hard on yourself because you have extremely high aspirations. You want to move forward to a point where your practice can help you see any type of movement towards your goals, but your goals are so far away that moving one foot forward doesn't look like you're going anywhere. It's a common habit for overthinkers, it's was the same for me. My early experience in drawing was not fun, it never was. I hated every moment of it and I quit mulitple times. The only reason I was able to ever move forward, is because I lowered the goal post while keeping my major goals in mind. At the beginning I was absolutely garbage, hated myself and my life. Then I pretty much stated "Okay if I can draw like adventure time I'd be happy" I set that as my goal and adventure time was simple enough to I achieved it quickily, then I kept doing that over and over and over again and eventually things started to fall in place. I was able to move on my own and produce works on my own. it was slow, but having something to latch onto any type of light at the end of the tunnel was helpful.
>>80415880who tf told you about the benadryl. I told you keep that shit lowkey.
man i cannot do line confidence for shit
>>80416456I decided to smoke a little to get my nerves off and i feel a bit more relaxed. I think my feeling comes from starting too late at 24 when i could've started at 21. It feels like every single thing is a mistake. And every missed day is a missed opportunity, just digging myself deeper. I've decided to maybe go with sonic design since i loved that series as a kid.
>>80416925that is an amazing decision, perfect. Sonic is simplistic shapes in nature that anyone can get into quick, but takes a while to master. Find some sonic artist you like, get some shit from the source material, study it and try to make it your own.Funny enough I also went into sonic (Honestly the first thing I ever did was MLP which was also extremely simplistic shapes.) It builds confidence trust.
>>80416925smoke what exactly nigga.
>>80416997I was just going to go with original promotional art since i tended to like those the most.>>80417093Is this weed anon?
>>80417763Yes
>>80417763OH I suggest looking at the IDW sonic and the works of both Tyson Hesse and Evan Stanley
>>80416048I think I'll give that a try, thanks. Also lovely doodle, also just wanna let you know i've saved all your Tadatomo drawings!
Still a WIP, but decent, at least?
Have you guys ever muted/blocked anyone from these threads because they got too popular?
>>80419719Who from these threads would have gotten "Too popular" What is considered too popular?
>>80416812Thats a cute fella. I still struggle with making my own lines look good in one stroke and have opted to sculpt them after the fact to get them in line with what I want, erasing edges to make finer points and cutting down on rounded bits, that kind of stuff. If you don't use stabilizers at all you should consider giving them a try as you can only have such a steady hand depending on what tablet you use.>>80417914I wanted to add that they don't have to be extravagant or make any sort of sense so just throw out whatever ideas you can think of and forgo any real context, like so. Being able to smirk at what I'm doodling helps motivate myself more when I'm feeling low. I'm also glad to see that you like these as while I'm not into gacha stuff he IS quite a cutie and drawing him as a fucking goofball is fun...though that goes for me things I do I guess.>>80419148The perspective looks fine and nothing really jumps out that appears off to me. You have a real knack for making good looking animal heads.
>>80419719Bouncing off >>80419744, what do you even mean they *got* too popular? Do big artists that pop their heads in here count under that label? Or is this something about being jealous about those who make it big later down the line?
>6000 x 6000 canvas>Ryzen 9 9900x and 96 GB ram running at 5200 MHz>Krita is still laggingI gotta move to a better art program at some point, don't I?
>>80420440IIRC there was some configuration setting you could toggle that would help. Also, IIRC one of the patch versions of 5.2 had a really nasty performance regression that got fixed later. Might be worth updating to latest if you aren't already. But yeah, any smearing brush is a bad time in Krita at 6k squared
>>80420621>5.2.9That might be it.But maaaaan, I like my smeary brushes and my settings. They can't have a simple "update my program without changing any preferences or brushes" feature?
>>80420811I wish I rembered the patch version. Actually wait let me check snap....5.2.11 or earlier for sure had the problem. No problem on my machine on 5.2.14. Good luck anon.
Day 1 artist here. I want to give this art stuff a go in 2026. My goal for right now is to draw some semi-realistic feral cats (ie. with defined muzzles and accurate feline body), but still stylized for sexo. Kinda like how this artist drew them.https://www.furaffinity.net/user/dovecoon/I know they were somewhat amateur themselves, but I really like what they were going for. Here's what I drew on day 1: https://files.catbox.moe/6inq5u.png(it's not very good so I'm not putting it in the thread) Are there any tips or pitfalls I need to avoid as a complete newb? Should I forget cats and just draw shapes and lines for a bit? I guess I'm not looking to become a master artist, but I don't want to ignore any really important fundamentals, either.
>>80419744>>80420064People who made it. They used to post here, they got some followers/made friends with bigger artists, and stopped posting. So now when I see them I can only think about how they sold out, I guess.Like, people who once came here for help, got it, and then fucked off when they got their fill. That's what it feels like.
>>80422337Ain't seen nobody like that so far, but I've only been here for a relative short time. Beyond that I was already relatively popular before I came around so I doubt I'd think too negatively about someone taking what they need and dipping.
>>80401374
>>80422354I've been here for a long time, and I can think of maybe two people that would qualify (though then again, I don't keep tabs on most people here on account of not knowing the handles they go by elsewhere). I don't think they've abandoned the place entirely, either, just busy with life and probably don't need all that much advice on their art anymore in any case, so they don't have all that much reason to post their work even if they're lurking.
>>80421968>Should I forget cats and just draw shapes and lines for a bit?Yeah, you should. Not very long, just long enough to get the shapes and lines consistent and more or less correct. You're gonna be using basic geometric shapes to construct the cats, so you'll want that good foundation to build on. There's also plenty of books on the subject of drawing animals out there (and a lot of general art books have at least a small section on it too), might want to give them a look.
Why draw when ai
Why lift when forklift?
>>80422337>>80422354It's 4chan though. People aren't obligated to stay in here, and considering the transient state of threads and anonymous nature of posting (other than recognizing the art), I can see why people leave. I certainly don't qualify as "making it" but I also never was super attached to this place (or 4chan in general). Also as >>80424106 says, a lot of people have other reasons for just not showing up anymore. People come and go, and that's just life.
Im here cause i have no friends.
does changing pen anti-aliasing do anything? Mine is always on the lowest setting
There's zero reason to post anything in this general since you'll almost never get any feedback/discussion/interaction on your work unless you're already a semi-decent porn artist.
>>80427249incorrect, being decent actually works against you.The folks that get discussion (Let alone feedback) are the people who are actively conversational and are asking direct questions that can be answer vs nebulous "How do I draw" generalized questions that get constantly asked. In fact most questions that get the most responses are extremely pointed in some sector of growth online, or questioning how long it takes to get to X quality
>>80427225Anti aliasing makes your brushes seem less pixelated at the same resolution by adding in between pixels. Less anti aliasing Makes it more pixelate >>80409321Like here, I have it all the way down and the pen strokes are pretty much binary black and white.
>>80427225>>80427717Adding on to this, anti-aliasing can look a bit different from program to program, and its effects depend on the kind of brush used. The pros to having it off is that your lines will be very crisp, but it will look more pixelated. If you have a custom texture, it will look clean if it's high resolution. If it's low res, then you'll get a bit more of a choppy pixelated appearance. The pros of anti-aliasing is the smoothing out of texture, so if you're trying to have lines without jaggedness, that would be why you turn it on. However, you are at the mercy of how the program achieves this. I use Procreate, which has both a legacy option and current option, and neither of them really look good--it just makes everything look fuzzy, for the brushes I am using. All in all, it depends on what look you are going for. Personally, I advise with keeping it as low as possible generally, and if it looks too crusty, bump it up a bit. Bump it all the way up if you're trying to soften things up.
First drawing of 2026 and first one since like November
Today's sketch. Head perspective from construction to outline. I did have a reference this time (pics of cats online looking down).A couple questions from this exercise:>1. You can see that I bulked out too much muzzle in construction and trimmed it in the outline. Is it more common to iterate on construction until it closely matches the desired final outlines, or to just YOLO shapes and then trim them down?>2. I'm struggling a bit with the eyes at this downward perspective. The angle suggests they should be narrower IMO, but then that defeats the big-eye effect for cub. Any thoughts on which direction should win out or how they can coexist?>3. Is this process what's recommended? Aka am I on the right track for more repeatable consistent heads with it?>4. Anything else that I'm not seeing that stands out?I think I'm pretty pleased with the tongue and little lip crease, wasn't really planning those. Also haven't forgotten about my prior perspective pose in-thread, that's gonna be a weekend project I think.

>>80430736>Is it more common to iterate on construction until it closely matches the desired final outlines, or to just YOLO shapes and then trim them down? Both are viable, so pick whichever feels better for your particular process. I personally make liberal use of liquify tools to tinker with the lines throughout the whole process, from gesture to rough draft of final linework, until I'm happy with them. Not a fast way to do things, but it appeals to my perfectionist ass too much to resist the temptation.>I'm struggling a bit with the eyes at this downward perspective. In times like these, having a 3D model would be very handy for all those tricky angles. Sadly, there aren't that many around in the wild and they're not likely to be an exact match to what you're looking for. It may not be a bad idea to learn your way around Blender well enough to make low-poly stuff similar to pic related for the purposes of making reference material for drawings. You could try to just open the eyes up more than realistically possible to achieve the desired stylistic effect. Always an option to "cheat" a little bit if it improves the end result.>Aka am I on the right track for more repeatable consistent heads with it?More or less. If you really want to maximise your consistency, and you're planning on drawing the character more than a handful of times, it might be worth the effort to do a carefully measured character sheet with, in addition to a turnaround of the full figure of the character, a full range of head positions you can reference later when unsure if you've drifted off-model.>Anything else that I'm not seeing that stands out?Your line quality is a bit shaky. That'll improve with mileage and experience, but looking into some line confidence exercises might not be a bad idea either.
>>80434719>I personally make liberal use of liquify toolsYeah I'm a liquify enjoyer also>having a 3D model>blenderMight not be a bad idea, Ive got some prior sketches that are pretty much meshes. Also thanks for the ref!>line qualityGood call, I'll start folding that in. It's tempting to just accept the scratch bc fast, but probably not good long term.>open the eyes up more than realistically possibleI'll play around and see if where I landThanks anon, this is great>planning on drawing the character more than a handful of timesSince goals were mentioned prior itt, mine is eventually to be able to do a storyporn comic, like soft sword and sorcery TSR plus cubs. So a character sheer plus turnaround sounds like a good idea.
>>80435067>Ive got some prior sketches that are pretty much meshes. If you decide to go that route, you might be able to skip (or at least considerably speed up) the character sheets since a fully modelled mesh of the character will serve much the same purpose. If you go to the trouble of rigging it, you can even pose it however you like, maybe even do a bit of simple animating for figuring out action scenes.
>>80420012ahhh, fuckin cuteness overload right there, I needed to see something like this after a rough day of workI sometimes don't like the way my doodles look when I do them, but maybe if I try to do something lighthearted and without much thought I'll be able to make something I can laugh at
I guess random doodles is kinda fun, even if they dont always look good. And I actually did some drawing.
>>80439147I feel ya. I'm currently trying to shake the rust off with some sketches but I don't feel the motivation to refine. Then again, future me might thank myself for leaving him with material when he is in that better place.
Oh my god, I finally don't hate my lines as much.
BREATHE DARN YOU!
