"Our time has come. For 300 years, we prepared. We grew stronger. While you rested in your cradle of power, believing your people were safe... and protected. You were trusted to lead the Republic—but you were deceived, as our powers of the dark side have blinded you. You assumed no force could challenge you... but now...finally... we have returned. You were deceived. And now, your Republic... shall fall."

>The Marine corporal grunted at the Knight over the growing noise of combat.
(MRN #1) Noted.
(CTN) And if you want to know a bit Fram, those machines seem to be possible enemies of a friend of ours.
>And speaking of enemies, 3 out of 4 fell in quick and violent fashion from a combination of gunfire and a well-placed landmine, Mine One detonating to take out a bot! However there was still one last survivor AND with ranged reinforcements to boot, the former making murderously for Fram while the latter got into better shooting positions.
>The sharp eyed and tactically minded SPARTAN didn't miss any of this, the MCPO quickly devising a counterattack as he barked orders.
(117) Engage those distant hostiles, now.
>All but the shotgun equipped Marine would obey the petty officer's order: The Chief and Marine One used their more accurate longarms, the Battle Rifle and DMR respectively, to shoot the pair of different looking and seemingly heavier-armed bots.
>Marine Two switched from his assault rifle to his M319 IGL, the grenade launcher sighting the throng of four that made up the bulk of their forces. He fired a 40 mm HE-EMP grenade, the explosive whistling slightly through the air as it sought to explode and perhaps (temporarily) fry their ranks with the dual-purpose round.
>Marine Three used his MA5C assault rifle to likewise concentrate his fire on one of the four that were due to get slammed with a grenade launcher, the trooper hollering with it.
(MRN #3) Yeah baby, get some!
>Last but not least, the Fourth Marine used his shotgun to try and help Fram out. Namely by blasting the charging sword bot with a couple rounds in turn.
>Cortana for her quiet part analyzed this new enemy of theirs and (tried) to update the Spear over the still possible EM interference.
>Mine Two meanwhile remained active on the ground, waiting to explode if given the chance...

He should have cut the power supply to the capacitator array first. Even so, it's tricky business trying to find out whether you're pulling a hot 'cap' or a discharged one.
Next, we have a report of an Earthling soldier blowing up the magazine of Battery TX-04. How valiant indeed.
Now, if the cloaking generators go down, the NORAD might just be able to fire missiles against the space-invader ship!
Aboard it though: deadly firefights between the breaching forces and the droid defenders, and none other than the Sith commander!

3 breachers KIA

At one point in the history of human spaceflight, they thought that eating food in space was impossible due to zero gravity. That was until they sent a 'naut up to space with a tube of chocolate spread or something, and they found out that peristalsis (how a human swallows down food) works as normal.

Brawler #4: (4+: Fatal)
>Whether it was by the almost careless unarmed bash, or if it never had the chance to make it there at all thanks to the shotgun blast, the sword-armed machine gets dropped before it ever got the chance to get a swing in. Up close, it's easy to watch as the literal light in its eyes flickered and blinked off as the machine falls dead.
3/4 Troopers: (4+: Fatal)
>As for the main bulk of their assault force, they couldn't get a chance to spread out far enough before that grenade came sailing in. With the explosion of the HE round came the explosion of 2/4 of the bots in one hit, their metal bodies torn to shreds by the up-close explosive and sent sprawling against the forest floor. The third managed to avoid the direct blast, only to be picked off by the backup fire of Marine 3, dropping to a sparking mess along with its brethren.
Trooper #4: (0-1: No: Damage)
>Fortunately for the fourth of the main bulk, he seemed to avoid any direct attackks, and moves into positon halfway behind a tree to prepare for his attack...
2/2 MG Raiders: (0-1: No Damage)
>The same can be said for the two slightly different-looking troopers in the flank, who manage to avoid the first haze of bullets sent toward them, and they too move into position.
Commissar: (Not Attacked)
>And furthest back, the one-gun-one-sword bot seemed to avoid any attention altogether, and risked moving a bit closer towards the main battle...

>With that, the machines send out their own attacks.
Trooper #4: (0-3: Miss)
>The remainder of the main 4 fires, a 5-round burst of red lasers that sear the trees around them, but ultimately for him none of his attacks land true on a human target. The rifle hisses in his hands as it cools down and prepares for another attempt...
MG Raider #1: (4-5: Hit Chest) | MG Raider #2: (0-3: Miss)
>The other two, slightly different bots step up as well, their weapons appearing longer in length than the Trooper's, and the UNSC will soon learn why: both units proceed to fire a 12-round burst out across the battlefield. They aimed with no particular target in mind, looking instead to try and simply overwhelm their position with pure firepower.
>One of them misses completely. However, the second of them manages to score a hit on 1 random enemy target, a laser bolt landing true against (someone's) torso.
>This laser round deals level 2 light-armor piercing damage, and is functionally the same as a standard ballistic-type rifle round(because video games). So there's a chance their armor could simply tank the shot, depending on who is hit...

Commissar:
>Finally, the special unit hiding way in the back moved in, and seemed to study the damage its squad has taken... but instead of firing at its enemies, the final machine suddenly looked to the sky and raised up its right fist.
>If you don't want to find out what it's trying to do, I suggest shooting it now before it gets the chance to finish...!

"No, no! Don't salute me! There are snipers out here!"
~Last words of an anonymous lieutenant.

Thunderbolt TDR-5S acquires a valuable piece weapons tech data: This enemy capital ship is armed with a kinetic-type railgun weapon surprisingly similar to the ones developed back on earth, with interesting differences: The 'rail' part of it is a nearly 3-kilometre long barrel made of superconductor material, coupled to a molten-cobalt heat extractor system to supercool it to less than 32 Kelvins.
Meanwhile... some of the breachers are turning against each other. Haah.
They don't call him The Flush for nothing. Look at the hole he just blew through that turret.

(MRN #4) It ain't a competition y'know!
>Especially since with their combined efforts the shotgun armed trooper and Fram managed to grease the sword bot!
(MRN #4) Yeah that's right, eat it.
>Not to be outdone, the grenadier leatherneck took out a pair of machines himself along with Marine Three's assault rifle fire taking a third. Regrettably, the Chief and Marine corporal's own efforts whiffed, the heavier looking automatons evading for now along with what appeared to be based on analysis from Cortana a field officer or commander bot.
>Then of course came the expected counterattack from the machines, the Fourth clanker among them trying and failing to land anywhere close to the humans. The same couldn't be said from what appeared to be machinegunners, their own efforts striking Marine Four to...
Evens: Hit him for no damage thanks to [Bulwark] and his titanium-A plating!
Odds: Hit him for mild damage!
(MRN #4) Aie, that stings man!
>No matter the case, he was stunned for a moment from the laser fire.
>No matter, the Chief, Fram, and the other Marines were still in the game. And it should be enough to put these Goddamn tinheads down!
>And seeing the possible officer analogue raising their fist, further analysis from Cortana warned the team out loud.

>Marine Two with his freshly reloaded IGL fired another HE-EMP 40 mike-mike at the machingunner robots to try and blow them up or at least stun them with the EMP effect as it detonated midair.
>The Third Marine in turn focused on the remaining Trooper Automaton hiding near a tree. Potent M118 rounds shredded their concealment in an effort to gun them down or force them out of cover.
>The final and Fourth Marine meanwhile was still recovering from getting shot, although he took a moment to reload his nearly depleted M90A.

>I am no longer able to edit death pictures for the bots, so we've lost half of the presentation here. But it's fine don't look at it too hard-

Commissar: (4+: Fatal)
>Whatever the one with the sword was planning, it didn't end up mattering in the end, because even through the trees and the slight haze of smoke from explosions and their fellow bot-brethren, the 'officer'-looking bot gets dropped without much fuss(and it was a 9 roll so you really got him good!).
Raider #1: (0-1: no damage) | Raider #2: (2: Stunned)
>The EMP effect of the mid-air detonation of the second grenade does half its job at least, and one half of the gunners is stunned until next turn.
>However, the second gunner continues to be deceptively lucky, perhaps due to the trees, and it loads up for another burst-fire assault...
Tropper: (4+: Fatal)
>As for the last of the troopers, the Marines' bullets shred right through the already grenade-damaged tree and take the bot down with it. Briefly, it remains in place even as its eyes began flickering off... only for the entire thing to slowly topple over and hit the ground with a thud, all of its limbs frozen in place. Talk about a system crash...

>And since only 1 enemy is left to attack...
MG Raider #1: (8: Limb Hit)
>The remaining machine gunner fires another 12-round burst, this time aiming in the general direction of the human with the grenade launcher. And once again, this bot proves to be actually useful by striking its enemy in one of its four limbs!

>Despite the fact that only two of them were left standing, neither of the bots seemed all that distraught by being suddenly outnumbered.
>And, as a bonus, since either Cheif and/or Cortana are certainly perceptive enough... with another burst of bullets fired, one could likely notice the rise in temperature coming from something attached to the Raider's back. Undoubtedly some sort of heat sync for its weapon.

>Marine Four still got tagged, but at least he was possibly saved from further strikes thanks to Fram, to say nothing of her active [Bulwark] effect on the man.
>And to answer her question, the DMR-armed corporal shouted over his gunshots as he engaged the possible officer bot along with the Chief.
(MRN #1) Hell if I know lady, but I don't intend on finding out!
>Case in point, he and the SPARTAN took the SOB out before they could finish whatever it was they were trying to do.

Evens: Left arm, causing him to drop his grenade launcher in pain!
Odds: Left leg, stunning the Marine and staggering him out of cover!
>No matter the case, these clanking bastards were outnumbered and outgunned now, the SPARTAN leading these people fully intending on finishing the job!
(117) Focus fire on those last two.
>Obeying with lethal efficiency, the jarheads that could opened up. The Chief and One with their BR and DMR on the Second MGer that was still trying to recover from the EMP, guns running dry and hurriedly pressing back into cover to reload. Marines Three, after rapidly reloading his spent assault rifle, fired a short burst of a few rounds at MGer One while Marine Four used his own M90A to blast them from afar with three rounds from his scattergun.
>Cortana of course noticed the increase of heat from said Raider, the AI speaking in the SPARTAN's helmet.
>"Chief, that bot's weapon is connected to a heatsink. I think if it keeps firing, it'll eventually overheat and stall similar to the other ones rifles."
>'Noted.'

>Those two are all that's left by the looks of it, huh...well, let's make sure they're good and dusted then. Waiting for allied firing to have a break in it...a few big steps forward, and Fram plants the tip of her weapon in the ground and launches herself in to the air like she's polevaulting! Taking it with her, she slams the tip back in to the ground when she lands, and causes a bit of a tremor in the ground with the impact. She's not just kicking up dust, it emits a shockwave of arcane energy (blue). Can't guarantee trees being unimpacted. She really just cleared that gap just like that....

>Whether it was one of the two marines firing on each of the bots, or the giant, magical AoE attack that swept across the immediate area... the two machine-gunners end up getting scrapped with extreme prejudice.

(MRN #4) Yeah no, I'm fine. Ow, dammit...
>He had some laser scoring on his chest plate but again, the armor and [Bulwark] took most of the hit thankfully. Still stung like a bitch, the trooper grumbling as the firefight died down with the last two heavier clankers falling in short order thanks to a variety of attacks. Of which when it came to Fram raised some eyebrows with her bold charge and groundpounding AoE strike.
(MRN #2) Woah...
>"Interesting..."
>Cortana was running some scans out of curiosity on the maneuver the Knight had pulled to try and glean *some* information on it. After all, magic was still somewhat novel for the UNSC at large. Assuming that's what it was...
>No matter what though, this fight had ended for the moment with a bit of explosive gusto, more than one Marine swearing at the unexpected parting blasts. The Chief remained collected as ever however, sharp eyes scanning the seemingly empty environment and his for now clear motion tracker. Carefully leading the way with Battle Rifle in gauntlet, he emerged first from rocky cover to observe their fallen foes.

(MRN #3) Argh, they got me good. But I think I'm okay too. Don't need any biofoam just yet!
>All the same, the SPARTAN examined the wounded real quick and their now YELLOW BIOS conditions before clearing them for duty.

Barely even flinches at the chain-explosion as Fram faces back towards them with a grin.

>The mysterious and utterly foreign energy seemed potent as it was volatile then. Was it intrinsic to the Knight or did it come from that impressive lance/sword weapon of hers?
>Questions for possibly later, even if Cortana ever the curious construct wanted them answered now, the Chief giving the confident woman a nod.
(117) Alright.
(MRN #1) Yeah, not bad. Keep it up.
>Focusing back on the defeated machines the SPARTAN and Cortana came to the conclusion that they weren't a complete pile of shoddy steel and bolts. After all, they had laser weaponry for their regular small arms. Although it didn't have the same deadly punch as Covie or even Gendy plasma, to say nothing of their questionable aim that seemed more reliant on sheer spam than actual accuracy.
>Further examination would have to come later however, namely from ONI if they could secure samples once this mission came to a close. For now, the SPARTAN-led fireteam wouldn't underestimate this new threat.
>The Chief listened to what Fram had to say before reluctantly nodding.
(117) You're on point with me then, Fram. Stay close. The rest of you follow behind us and don't bunch up. And mind the mine.
>Mine Two had yet to go off after all, the Marines taking a quick moment to check over themselves and in Four's case top off his shotgun before following the Navy cyborg as he pressed forward further into the forest. And closer to that crashed bot ship.

At the remains of some kind of crashed vessel that seemed too small for even these machines to climb into, there was still nothing. Nothing besides the corpse of another standard bot type lying in the trees beyond, courtesy of the Master Chief.

>She wouldn't have to wait long, the reserved commando leading the way soon enough along with his sharp and tensed Marines. They worked like clockwork together, the troops close but not so much that they could all get killed by a burst of automatic weapons fire or a well-placed explosive, the men keeping alert for bots or booby traps. So far there was nothing to note, the Master Chief's motion tracker clear of contacts and nothing on visual as they arrived at the crash site. Although Cortana would pipe up via external speakers to the group as she examined the wreck.
(CTN) Seems a bit too small to be a proper troop transport ship and I can't honestly know what its purpose is just yet.

>And so, they walked. Walked for about... ten, fifteen minutes? And for a while, the forest seemed about as natural and normal as a forest should seem...
>But the first signs of trouble were 'foot'prints in the mud, matching the shape of those machines... further in, they found a body of one of the locals, left discarded and alone in a laser-skewered slump in the mud. Some poor fool who must have gone in to check things out himself. He looks like he's been here for at least a day...
>And then, up ahead: a clearing. Not a natural clearing though, as shown by how the forest went from a field of trees to a field of tree-stumps in the span of a step, and the ground from there became muddier and more barren by the footstep...
>But beyond the end of the treeline, they could see a red glow emerging from something... concrete. And metal. And, from looking up, apparently, the source point of all that smoke.

(117) Interesting.
(CTN) I'll say so myself as well. You wouldn't happen to know a Roland would you Fram?
>A bit of a joke from the cheeky AI, but in truth, she was calculating such a probability already.
>In any event, further trekking eventually led to a mangled alien corpse, the SPARTAN pausing to examine them for a moment. Given the level of slight decay the body couldn't have been here for too long. But it also told him that these marauding machines had been here longer than just a few hours too.
>Which suggested buildup. Especially with what he saw further ahead through the cut down field.
(117) Stick to the treelines, we're not crossing this open field.
>That would leave them exposed after all, the MCPO opting to go around the long way as it were. Even at a distance he saw the increased activity. And perhaps with it, the source of these bots.

>Approaching the edge of the trees as far as they're willing to go, beyond the immediate debris of leveled trees, two things become obvious.
>The first, the closer of which, was a small stretch of what must have been landmines scattered in a relatively small span of space. At least twelve in total, broken apart by a few pyramid-shaped concrete barriers. The idea that any actual heavy artillery would be rolling up on this space seemed unlikely, so these were all likely left here out as a 'just in case' measure. Either way, it would make charging straight ahead all the more unpleasant.

>Was what appeared to be a small, but full-fledged outpost of some sort.
>Small, waist-high concrete structures made up a rough perimeter around 90% of the square plot of space, with the other 10% defended by a sturdy-enough-looking metal fence. Barbed wire stretched across the ground in front of the barriers facing the minefield, and in turn, the direction of the UNSC + Magic user.
>Red spotlights beamed out a hazy, half-blinding light towards the forest and turned in a slow, automated fashion. Probably the most strange addition were the red banners bearing that same Star-and-Cog emblem that was on the crashed ship, of which there were two on three-out-of-four sides of the encampment.
>The largest eyesore was this big, boxy structure in the back, with two large vents that spewed out that black smoke in intermittent intervals. The purpose of this was as of yet unknown. And finally...
>There were more of those machines themselves. Four could be immediately seen, two on either side of the center walkway, one manning a mounted turret, and another standing guard beside it. The non-turret ones appeared to be holding... rocket launchers.

>Four merely gave Fram a quiet nod. The mention of fairies hardly caught him off guard at that, the man a veteran of VERDANT DAWN and having seen them therein. So too would the Chief stay silent as he examined the lay of the land ahead. And what he saw wasn't good.
>More of those bots could be seen behind decent fortifications and a minefield of their own. It was a good thing Fram didn't charge ahead lest she walk into a meat grinder, a Marine grumbling quietly at what he saw.
(MRN #2) Damn, these guys mean business. Frontal assault would be stupid...
>Not to mention possibly suicidal, the petty officer quietly agreeing with the lance corporal. The rocket launcher bots alone were serious trouble, to say nothing of the MG emplacement and whatever the Hell the big thing idling in the back was. The Chief attempted to use his Battle Rifle's powered scope to zoom in and get a better picture of it if possible before making his decision.
(117) We're going to have to find a better attack angle if we're going to engage this base.
>The Chief paused before looking at the Knight among them.
(117) Do you have anything you can give us or do that could help?
>Like clearing a minefield. Or perhaps some kind of magic to debilitate or disable ranged foes, the Chief again worried mostly about the machinegun and rocket troopers.
>Cortana for her part was likewise doing a myriad of things to try and help the UNSC troops. Did those mines operate on IFF tags? Perhaps they could be spoofed to read the Chief and his people as "friendly" and prevent them from going off or disable them outright? Or Hell, maybe she could somehow hack something from the base remotely. But given the novelty of this enemy, that might be a slim proposition.
>Just as well, she was keeping in contact with the overhead Tip of the Spear. Perhaps they could get some fire support or reinforcements to help out? Assuming the EM interference wasn't present.

>Fram's got sharp senses, but she's not got eagle vision, so nevermind her for that. She blinks, before making a realization.
Well, I'm pretty tough, so maybe I could just run in there and trigger 'em, but I'm not THAT dumb.
...I coould throw ya over them and jump over?
>Fram chuckles a little, but immediately follows it up.
Nah, just jokin', but I am kinda a blunt instrument. I could probably carve open a path, but it's gonna be real loud and obvious. Like...SUPER obvious. If the other side's not got those exploding things...er, mines? Do you think you could get in while I distract 'em? Otherwise, I can just try and brute-force a path and move up to give 'em a primary target.

>Unfortunately for Cortana, as far as she can tell, those mines are little better than 'dummy' mines. They possess a 1-2m detonation proximity, and utterly no means of telling a friendly metal foot from an enemy human's boot... which gives the impression that they're perhaps just a 'cheap' means of defense. That, and if she had to guess, probably only the Chief would be able to survive actually stepping directly on one. Not pleasantly, but still.
>On a lighter note... the weather seems to have calmed down just enough for the interference to only be... at about half the strength it was earlier. Whatever planet this was, it was starting to make sense that those people back there seemed to be little better than a medieval-ish farming society. And, that whatever these Bots were made out of was stern stuff.

>That all being said, a keen eye amongst everyone else would be able to spot a new glow coming from the single building in the back of the lot. From the right angle, one could see that the front doors have slid open, painting the ground in front of it a deep crimson...

>And from that deep crimons emerged, in a single-file line, four more of those damned machines.
>Two of them looked like the ones they've already scrapped... and two of them looked like slightly beefier versions of them, based on the more reinforced looking metals that comprised their bodies.
>Oh, but we can't forget about the *big* thing can we?
>The Master Chief saw them well before anything else emerged from that structure, and what he saw was at least two much larger, much bulkier-looking machines. At least a couple feet taller than their compatriots, and giving off the impression they could take a bit more of a punch... in certain areas, at least.

>If nothing else, the apparent purpose of that structure had revealed itself... and, in turn, revealed that they weren't working with the luxury of time on their side...!

24 is off to a killer start, taking out UNSC Hammer over a bottle of water, what a cheap kill. Lizzie, Ed Edd n Eddy groovin, and Fram are already making friends, how cute, they'll be the first to turn on each other. RAWR's a punk for ditching Gretel, she's on her own now.

>Even with his face hidden behind a visor one could get the impression that the Chief was giving Fram a flat look at her suggestions.
(117) That's reckless ma'am.
>Damn sage stiff couldn't take a joke in this case it seemed, the petty officer again looking at the base. Reports from Cortana told him that the mines couldn't be tampered with due to their simplicity. Worse still, MORE bots emerged from the workshop's(?) depths, and they were meaner looking than anything they had faced thus far.
>Realizing now that they could very well be overwhelmed by sheer numbers soon if they didn't act fast and decisively, the Chief made his play.
(117) We're going to try and raise our ship, the Spear, to see if we can get some fire support our way. And we're going to seek out an alternative angle to attack this outpost in the interim.
(CTN) Right, I'm on it Chief. Lemme see if we can get past this interference then.
>Even if it had died down it was still present. Perhaps enough to prevent radio communication with the frigate.
>Either way it was time to act, the SPARTAN motioning for the others to sneakily follow him around the Automaton compound to try and head towards the back if possible. Hopefully there would be a better way inside, namely no minefields to obstruct them.

What a joke, 24's the top killer with one lousy kill and he's already dead. Gretel and Ed Edd n Eddy groovin are still yapping about their nonexistent kill counts, get a real conversation going or get out. RAWR's actually doing something useful for once, nice work patching up Lizzie.

Fram's got a score to settle with whoever pulled the acorn stunt, and I'm rooting for her to make them pay. Gretel's pathetic exit is a joke, dying alone from a snake bite, what a waste. Ed Edd n Eddy groovin's still in this, but I think Fram's got the skills to take it all the way.

I've come under fire from energy attacks plenty of times before, so I don't feel too worried 'bout these guys when it comes to drawin' their attention.
>Were Fram to voice it, she'd think she may be able to solo it, even, but she's not hot-blooded to the point of being suicidally aggressive like a certain knife-eared fourth-wall-breaker is. This stuff is outside the context of her world, clearly, after all.
>Her thoughts don't change much even when she sees the big fellow up there, but it does make her think back.
...Sure do wish I could call up one of the other knights right now, though...chances're pretty good they know they lost some of their guys, so let's try and be quick.
