I've been looking at some old furry art (late 20th century to early 2010s) and it's kind of jarring how different it generally looked back then. Why is that?
>Less easily-accessible anatomy/shading/etc. resources
>More primitive scanning hardware and digital art software
>Filesize constraints (low resolution and high bitmap/JPG compression for raster, flash default brushes and gradients for vector)
>Different character design and art style influences from popular media and other artists
>Different homogenization of what's considered sexy, namely slim/toned bodies with big yet still comparatively reasonable "assets", as opposed to the "thicc"ness of today
>More obscurity and decentralization, i.e. less attention and influence/pressure from people who deem certain subject matter "problematic"
Are there any reasons I'm missing?

Gonna be one of the few artist ranting about commissioners, but does anyone else find it supremely annoying when an artist tries to “advise” you on pricing like you don’t know what you’re doing?

Half convinced most of the “complaints” are just cheapskates looking to lower my prices by acting like “consultants” so they can get a better deal. In reality, I, along with many other artists, actually know what we’re doing when we price our commissions and it’s all deliberate. If you got a problem, there’s dozens of other artists you can go to instead

I still think the solution is to simply ban anyone under the age of 18 from operating a normal phone or computer and instead limit them to special kid hardware, like leapfrog. Though I think that solution has already sailed .They are using all of this as a way to push digital ID and they are dead set on passing it no matter what, kids are just a coinvent excuse.

18's probably good enough though, 18+ is there mainly because kids in their formative years are like sponges that absorb personalities and tastes at random. For all the general artist's faults, commissioners are on average way worse. /acrg/ will seethe about this because it's mainly commissioners, I would go as far as to say your chances of finding an idiot commissioner are far higher than those of finding an idiot artist.

Low end artists are egotistical and foolish, low end commissioners are just idiots. They don't look at a commission for what it really is (someone spending hours of their time to make a custom product for you), and don't realize that late changes or additional content means more of those hours. Nobody stops to think that if you account for hours spent, the hourly rate for a commission is often under minimum wage.

Just this morning I saw someone whining on twitter that once commission prices are high enough, the artist may as well get a job. Nigger, why do you think their prices are that high? The post was of course surrounded by people smugly felating AI.

That'd likely be because they were still figuring their styles and workflows out back then, so there was a component of excitement and enthusiasm due to exploring new territory that you simply can't maintain as you become more experienced and set in your ways. New artists can't quite capture the same effect, either, when they've got all the resources for learning art that the modern internet contains and don't need to experiment as much on their own.
