Thread Question: What are your thoughts on muscle/fat on bugs? Do you think bugs would be able to build up those or would their exoskeleton/metabolism prevent that?

Hey, bugbros. I finished Chapter 35 of The Howler

I don't like it. It doesn't make sense. If you want bugs to be fat, at least make it in their abdomen, or show it beneath their plates. Giving bugs muscles and fat in the ways it would go on humans just irks me. I don't like breasts either, but I'll settle for a smooth bump.

Wonder how Eigen processed being fed by Nithry like that, probably quite the discussion going on between the Wardens on that. Nice to see Nithry process more about Eigen, in so far as he can with the communication troubles, especially in the wake of being jealous of him. With what you said the last time you released the last chapter though, a bit worried what will happen when everything goes to hell
>>
>>81833519
Sure, there are some liberties taken, though that doesn't necessarily mean it has to go even further
>>81833739
There's certainly at least a greater capability to show fat on bugs rather than muscle without compromising realism too terribly much, though people unfortunately don't do it properly often enough

Must be the fact that I've done a number of comms with them recently (some of them I shared on this threads myself). Some of his vocabulary must have rubbed off on me kek. Got a new one ordered but it's like just 25% bug (1 out of 4) so wouldn't know if it would be acceptable in this thread.

Yeah, there is a bit of similarity in the way you said it compared to him. Gonna err on the side of caution and say your comm might not be okay given a bug just happens to be a part of it rather than over 50% bug but at the same time I'm not sure if many people would complain about. Have another comm of my own in the works with him of the vamp spider as well though
>>
>>81837907
That's fair, I might just crop the bug part of the comm and post that in this thread while posting the full in the more fitting thread. Here's the reference of the bug I'm using for the comm (it's from an Arkham Horror card game).

Maybe I should add the image to the post next time kek.

Yeah, posting just the bug part might be a good idea, and anybody more interested in the full comm probably have an idea of which thread it will be in anyways. Interesting bug right there too

Nice stuff, really need to get back to playing hollow knight at some point to figure out who these characters are though
>>
>>81839980
To be clear, they're from Silksong and have precisely zero canonical interactions with eachother.

The one with the messed-up mask is an optional boss only referred to as "First Sinner" in-game, imprisoned for having a freak-out about Great Mother Silk making their lot as ABSURDLY juiced uplifts rather than "true" divine daughters but the fandom's pretty commonly applied the Atla name from a nearby lore-blurb thing between taking the placement as an environmental storytelling context-clue and the associated "Weaver of Time" epithet somewhat meshing with the idea that her head's messed up from being early and relatively rough work. It is ambiguous whether fighting her in a dream is because she's already dead or just an end-run around the imprisonment the way the first game's protag gets the Dreamers, but either way the fight can be incredibly nasty because she gets to use the game's healing mechanic.

Widow is a crippled zealot on the "critical path" for the "basic" ending, unable to use her own silk because of the pins through her spine and having her own big round mask removed, thus being left plucking at the Weavers' maker's silk to influence the ongoing mind-control. As well as chuck bigass bells at Hornet. You get some damage windows from her TRYING to use the healing mechanic to no effect, which I hear has made some people feel sad.

In addition to the Doomed Yuri of the two drifting apart from the nature of how Great Mother Silk made them coming out, there's also pic related where the two absolutely hate eachother for the difference (to a backdrop of following Herrah's lot to Deepnest, in this case, hence interacting with baby-hornet), and Widow's status as a crippled zealot being entirely on GMS as revenge for the Weaver's backstabbing for a different kind of Doomed Yuri.

Would a mix of fermented nectar and blood be a good idea for a type of wine for bloodsucking bugs?
>>
>>81875977
depends of how old the mix has been made... or how fantastical your story is.

Mosquitos do not drink blood of corpses of blood bags, only focusing in living "prey".

if they do drink blood harvested in your world, they probably would have to properly store it, since unlike alcohol, it doesn't ferment to create alcohol, so probably freshly taken blood would be ideal.

But at the end of the day, it depends of yourself, it isn't unheard before of bloodsucking creatures mixing alcohol and blood, pretty common actually.
>>
>>81876365
The idea was that the blood would come from butchery, be stored soon after collection, and be used in supporting the blood-drinking immediate family/friends, so that hypothetically wouldn't be a problem. Guess it wouldn't be the craziest idea for a wine mix like that then
>>
>>81876648
that tracks, butchery already sell things like pig blood to those who want it, and if they had some sort of deal, they probably could store it the "right' way to sell it for profit.

thought, depends how advances is the legal system too, since if a butcher fucks up and sells bad blood, could make a lot of blood suckers get sick, and he could catch a demand.

Maybe the government saw this happening one too many times, and they need permits to sell the blood for "people" to consume (which credit them with the ability to not sell things that could get them sick and similar) and if they catch them selling without one, they could get fined and all that.

I could already see that some butchers sell it clandestinely, which is a lot cheaper, with a chance to get sick thrown in the mix.

Not sure about the world as a whole, but character in mind is part of a family butchery business, so at least some level of personal quality control there. Will definitely keep that in mind as a worldbuilding idea though
