A thread for RP in the world of Harahel, a world of fantasy, magic, and adventure. Drawing on tropes from RPGs both east and west, fantasy literature, and anime, the setting is constantly in flux, decided in large part by the players themselves.
To join, download the CYOA through the link and create a character. When making a build, try to include some information about your character if you plan to RP besides just the build. Optional of course, but it encourages others to ask questions and talk with you. The only expansion pack we use is the Imouto Expansion.

>The dancing was no graceful affair. Bodies shook forcefully to the beat. One might mistake the excited, animlistic screaming of the foxkin as they enjoyed themselves for bloody murder if they weren't familiar with them. It doesn't take long for Glensi and Dryna to have worked up a sweat and start panting from the exertion. Taking a break to cool down a little, they accept some of the alcoholic beverages going around. Offering a drink to the twins, their curiosity gets the best of them and they start asking questions.

"What's it like where you're from?"

"Yeah, tell us about yourselves."

"We overheard the Matriarch telling the boys you were already taken. Tell us about your lover too. Are they gonna be mad if we have some fun with you?"

>Dryna was coming on a little strong, but Glensi gave her a playful smack on the shoulder and scolded her.

"Dryna! You can't just ask that!"

"Huh? Why not?"

"Some of how we're viewed isn't our fault, but I won't deny that some of it is. We've had a rough time integrating, and the mistrust goes both ways. Progress is slow, at least by our standards. Unfortunately the rest of Fermata doesn't see it that way."

"I'm not expecting anything from you really. You're a total unknown with no current political power locally. I don't know what you think siding with us would even entail. I'll have to speak with you more than just the short conversation we've had just to get an idea about you."

>He continues along while speaking.

"We'll head to the meeting grounds. I'll fill you in here and there as we move. The Wandering Winds, much like the elves before the founding of Fermata, are a nomadic tribe. Were a nomadic tribe. We still assist the Rangers travel through the desert, but we don't have to scavenge and trade just to survive like we used to. We were the first tribe to establish a dialogue with Fermata, acting as mediators between the city and the other tribes that were willing to cooperate. Those being the Venomancers and the Black Scales. The Venomancers are named after and ruled by their alchemists, experts at both using and curing all the nasty poisons and venoms to be found out in the sands. The Black Scales aren't the only black scaled serpentfolk, but they're the most well known. Their scales are enchanted with dark magic capable of completely absorbing light without heating up in the way you'd expect it to. It helps keep them cool on even the hottest days."

>They arrive at an area divided into three segments, presumably one for each tribe.

"We're hostile with tribes left in the desert. I can't speak for all of them, but the two most dangerous are the Sirens and the Stone Shapers. The Sirens are an all female tribe specializing in enchanting minds through magical song. They're cannibals that ensnare men to feed both their hungers. Their magic doesn't work on women, so it's important for each Ranger team to have at least one woman in case they encounter them. Nobody is safe from the Stone Shapers though. They petrify their prey, trapping them in a mental hellscape that slowly breaks their mind. Once they've become sufficiently insane, the victim bursts free from the rock as a new Stone Shaper. It's how they reproduce. The upper body stays mostly the same, and more than one Ranger has retired after having to put down a former comrade they recognized among their ranks."

>It was no surprise that vixen rituals were noisy as hell. Despite kitsune's often playful tropes, foxes were loud when they felt it. As someone whose lived near foxxos this poster can attest to their loudness. As for the twins, they worked a little from the heavy beat nowhere near as those two, just light gasps for air at worst.
"Ah quiet, peaceful- well if you're not stuck in the defences then you're fu- OW" "Dont be rude Tera, hhh"
>The coincidence of both duos having a forward giddy vix that had to be handled by the other was not lost on them.
"Oh we've done a few dungeons to have upkeep the wierd taxes, nothing extreme. We brew a lot of drinks to feed the woods surrounding us. Too many- yourselves?"
>They downplayed their deeds and acted aloof, listening curiously but their crimson eyes glowing with worrying [Yan] at the suggestion of homewrecking their fiance. Blushing red with a fawning gaze at their rings as they thought about them.
"They're vixens- one part tenshi, the other part mazoku. Mad? Maybe. Disappointed in us?? Absolutely." "And we would be heartbroken if we ever heard them cry"
>After a sip of their drinks, they had the will to not drink too deeply, a more blunt Tera doubles on Dryna's dare.
"We're open- adventuring is too dangerous for purity. But Dryna, Glynda- if you dare, we're dragging you and not stopping until. E v e r y. Thought. is in servitude to our bethrothed."
>With an illusion of ropes and chains dangling behind the two vixens that obly they could see, Tera had verbally let loose and expressed [Sadism] and [Yan] heavy enough to pant once as hard as they were. [Vulgarly] stating that if they pushed forward enough Tera was going to ensure they were possessions for cass and iris.

Bene hums.
"That *is* unfortunate. And you are right about me having little soft power here, but if there is anything I am confident in, it is my own power."
As she says this, she flexes her bicep and slaps it, producing a solidly meaty thwap.
"Well, as long as we include magical power, that is."

The aquatic elapid nods along to the senior Lamia's brief, yet informative, overview of the main tribes. A grin of excitement forms on her face, impossible to hide, not that she wants to.
"Every one of those tribes sounds fascinating, though I would especially like to hear more about your own, Elder Telart. I believe I am capable of assisting with the issues pertaining to the Sirens, but the Stone Shapers sound like a menace."
Looking between the different forks of the path, she continues.
"I think there is a good opportunity for information pertaining to magic to be exchanged with me and these Venomancer and Black Scale tribes. I am decent with Dark Magic and moderately adept with Alchemy. Actually, what is it that your tribe specializes in, aside from communication, Elder?"

"Prince Pelos has a whole team dedicated to managing his appearance, including a personal designer and tailor. I've worked with them in the past, but I prefer the variety of clients I meet in my current job. The competition to design for Princess Kepa was notable because she rarely attends social events, and would usually rather show up wearing her armor."

>He makes some notes as Domi explains the symbols.

"Flowers? I may need some references. I don't think you're describing any of them that I'd be familiar with."

>Torsce gladly gives him some more info on the royal family.

"Queen Nomutani Fermata has ruled since the founding of the city, and watched over the land for long before that. She is primordial fey. The followers of Relahah believe her to be the daughter of the goddess, but the Queen herself has never made such claims. She has three children, one with each of the other races that founded the city alongside her and the fairies."

"Prince Pelos is the first born and the royal foxkin. The most politically minded of the royal children, he handles social issues and manages the economy. The tinkerers may keep our infrastructure running smoothly, but it's Prince Pelos and his subordinates that keep the people of our society held together."

"Princess Kepa is the second born and the royal dragonkin. Her primary responsibility is the safety of the city. She commands one branch of our military, the Defenders. The dangers beyond the walls don't always want to stay out there, and it's Princess Kepa and the Defenders that put a stop to them."

"Prince Venari is the third born and the royal elf. As the leader of the other military branch, the Rangers, he plans and oversees our forays into the desert. He even personally venturing forth when the situation calls for it. Exploration, resource gathering, dungeon raids, all fall under his purview."

"The royal color is a deep, vibrant blue. They're instantly recognizable by their hair, which is this color. Their eyes too, with the exception of Princess Kepa who inherited her father's golden eyes instead. The symbol of the royal family is a crown with water flowing from it. The palace is the crown of the city, and all water in Fermata flows down from within. It's a simple comparison, but an apt one."

"No wonder you seem so strong then. You're like the Rangers if you've been doing dungeons."

"Not like us at all. We work little jobs around the burrows. Mostly in the kitchens. Glensi practices her art whenever she can, but other than that we're pretty normal."

>They both have an expression of awe at the reveal that the fiancees were of a divine bloodline. Tera's intimidating display afterward has Glensi shaken, but Dryna's eyes light up with excitement.

"Oh yes! Make me your mmff-!"

>Glensi quickly muffles her lust addled friend with a hand over the mouth.

"You horny bitch! Stop thinking with your twat for a moment! I know your heat is hitting hard, but if you're going to make a stupid decision you'd be better off signing up for the sacrificial hunt than whatever it is they're offering."

>She makes an excuse for the other's behavior.

"Ignore her. The medicine that helps us get through heat doesn't work well for her. We've had to lock her up before to keep her from jumping somebody. She's not usually this bad at the start of it though."

>Dryna tears Glensi's hand away from her mouth and starts ranting, seemingly already forgotten about Tera's proposal.

"You're so right! Last year my heat didn't line up with the hunt, but it does this time and I've never actually gotten any. It's settled then. If I don't catch any dick by next week, I'm running in the hunt! No! Just lock me up until then! I'll tease myself silly in anticipation!"

"Damn it, she wasn't supposed to seriously consider it. Sorry, but I think I've got to wrangle her for now. Enjoy the party!"

>Glensi physically drags Dryna away. Crisis averted?

"That would be sensible. I cannot say that I would disagree in your position—as busy and challenging as such an honor is, artistic vigor demands its price in novelty. Such a rare opportunity as designing a gown for Her Highness would certainly sate it in a way that constant work to such ends would not; I may have to recommend you to my sister. Her stature is not quite as overwhelming as mine, but she does have some particular elements she likes to incorporate into her dresses."
>Domizjan cocks his head, as if thinking back. He moves over to the hanging coat and reaches into his breast pocket. His hand disappears, then wrist, then arm, before plucking out an upturned trumpeted blue flower darkening to a near-black violet in the throat where its five petals meet the stem, as fresh as can be, followed by a down-turned flower, tepals arranged in whorls, three smaller inside and three larger outside, the latter being more convex, little silent bells white as virgin snow save the barest hint of a vernal blush. He places them in one hand as he retrieves a vial of non-botanical use and a small metal ring with three feet, placing the flowers within it akin to an anemic bouquet. With practiced grace, he slowly moves them such that he highlights the angles and qualities to Ralito as he gives a brief explanation.
"The gentian is traditionally depicted at a slight angle, as if looking down. The snowdrops are usually displayed in profile, the stem curved to follow and the flowers themselves accentuating the object of focus. The former is formally associated with victory and magnanimity, though in common use its meaning dwells in passion and allure; the latter symbolized purity, hope, and perseverance. It is the first bloom of the year, and the only flower my demesne sees until the snow finally cedes its territory to the soil."
>He leaves them there for Ralito to look over and manipulate as he pleases. His focus moves to Torsce's explanations...
[continued]
>>
>>82038024
>He listens closely, not interrupting as Torsce speaks. A primordial fey? The soft ebb and flow of the wellspring in his soul babbles, Mushi blood and duplicated flesh in the Eye transfiguring itself beneath the skin—an exchange for so many pounds of flesh—and casts his gaze long, towards the crown of the city where the Eternal Queen dwells. Unions with mortal races, a contract of sorts, perhaps. A thought partners an echo—a brief statement in reply to Alice on arrival. He closes his mind, but finds on reason to disbelieve the pixie guide. He ought be careful here, even if his goals are purely centered on peaceable relations. No need for words or actions without distinct purpose.
>Pelos is supposed to be running the social gathering, assuming he can receive an invitation courtesy of Ambassador Gleeta. Given his importance in running the city's internal administrative structures, Domizjan must wonder exactly to what end the Queen is involved in a manner not via Pelos; of course, there's always the possibility that her relation is exactly what enables his capabilities. Maybe her presence is more hidden, but a natural result of having more direct control?
>Kepa relates to his own thought of the word "Keeper." The explanation reminds him of what is essentially a garrison's high command; given her usual appearance is that of armor, he connects that she may be involved in internal law enforcement as well. If she has a stature not dissimilar to his, it's quite plain to see a few obvious sources of her authority even apart from her mother.
>Venari seems a man after his own heart, even if Domi still best keep silent on the Arbiters.
>Gentians seem like a proper symbolic gift with that information in mind; running through his mind for what he has in stock, pressed flowers, a tome of Encore history neatly bound in cockatrice leather, and of course some jewels, mithral, and thrímaglaz, certain to be exotic here.
"Can you elaborate on tinkerers and trade in Fermata?"

>The twins hold a worried expression at Dryna actually being up for that, but sigh with relief once Glensi has her companion under control, Gaia doing the same.
"Tera shares similar problems-" "Hm? DO I?" "...Right, the hunt. A bookish pixie told us about it- sends fear down our spines honestly. Take care" "Byeeeee~! Give her plenty of water!!"
>The twins then sheepishly drink what was offered to them, tipsily agreeing this will be the only one as they relax in the loud but cosy ritual (they hope as they are [Lightweight]). As for crisis averted...well this den was a lot larger than two similar vixens and a few have probably heard Tera's feral musings while they drink. Who knows how many Dreza gossiped with as well.

"It's good to be confident, but strength isn't an answer to everything. Fermata isn't lacking powerful people, so I hope whatever idea you have to deal with the Sirens is more than just force. They've never been willing to act civilized or engage in good faith, reveling in being monsters."

>Each segment of the meeting grounds has has seating arrangements made for lamia and a place for a representative to speak. Elder Telart rests in one of the seats.

"Ah. Caught that I might have glossed over our capabilities, did you? It's nothing much compared to the others. We're just good at making friends, that's all."

>Bene can see the spell being cast before he even moves. He holds out his arm and there's suddenly a hawk perched on it. It gives him a look as if to ask why he was summoning it while at home in the caves, then disappears back from wherever it came. Telart just smiles warmly at the display.

"A little bit of summoning magic and some basic courtesy to the creatures living there can take you a long way in the desert."

>A woman's voice calls out as another lamia enters the meeting area. The serpentkin lady was obviously a Black Scale. She was surprisingly unclothed as her scales covered everything, and had a pair of horns on her head.

"Telart, you old coot! There you are! What are you up to this time? I'm hearing word of you making a scene out front."

"Bold of you to call me old, Dovi. We can't all use our magic to stay young and beautiful, can we? I was just showing our guest around, telling her about the tribes. The commotion was my master plan to become her new guide pixie of course. I'll be be shrinking and growing wings any minute now."

>Dovi looks unamused at Telart's antics.

"So you ditched the pixie, got it. And who might this be?"

Bene shrugs.
"I am rather accustomed to subjugating unruly tribes, such as with Oni or solitary Driders, but I was hoping to at least find some common ground with them. I... am familiar with the taste of Monster flesh, sentient and not. Now, I don't eat fellow Lamia like I think the Sirens do, though I am less picky and have less qualms than most."

She assumes the serpent-equivalent pose of sitting down partially coiled and her eyes widen in surprise and then delight at the hawk's sudden appearance.
"How intriguing! Like you said, I can imagine how useful that skill is. As an elder, you must be capable of summoning creatures of great strength, but I understand that you want to make less of a scene where we are. Is your avian friend a designated summon or a being that simply heeded your call?"

Bene figuratively scans the new arrival, looking her up and down, focusing almost entirely on her scaling's patterned segmentation, only giving her ebony horns a cursory glance. It's only when Telart mentions age does the krait's gaze break away from the Lamia woman.
"Ah... I often forget that almost every leader has the edge over me in years. Is now a good time to mention that I am only in my mid-20s...?"

Once addressed, Bene properly faces the black-scaled serpentkin and curtsies.
"I am Benefactum Tihr, Queen of a fledgling kingdom in eastern Arpeggio called Tihr. It is a pleasure to meet you, Elder Dovi of the Black Scales."

"Oh! I didn't expect you to have them immediately on hand. I'll get to cataloguing everything immediately."

>Ralito begins sketching into his notebook while Torsce continues answering Domi's questions.

>>82046969
"The tinkerers... I want to call them a fairy sub-race similar to the pixies, but it's closer to a condition. It mostly manifests in pixies, but it occasionally shows up in full sized fairies as well. The Queen says they aren't unique to Fermata, it's just that something causes them to be born at a far higher rate here than elsewhere. Enough to have whole communities of them. They seem to have an innate understanding of mechanical things, and are capable of learning related skills faster than others. Most of them have jobs creating and maintaining public infrastructure. Things like the waterwheels, the lifts, the aqueducts and piping of the higher districts, and so on. One of the more famous exceptions is a pixie in the Rangers that built a whole full sized prosthetic body to fight with."

"Trade is a bit complicated. We're fully self sufficient by necessity. The people's basic needs are mostly covered by the Farmland, where crops and domesticated animals are raised. Things that can't be produced in the city are procured outside by the Rangers. You could say our economy is solved, so long as our population stays stable. The merchantry houses of the nobility aren't there because they made the most profit, but because their management was the most efficient for the city as a whole. The common folk have access to cheap mass produced goods from the factories here in Wheel Town, and enough food to eat."

"What that means is that the things people work for are prestige, honor, quality, entertainment, security, community, and self fulfillment in the case of the arts. So long as the military stays strong and the people's needs are met, people are free to live their lives as they wish."

"They are a customary gift of friendship, recognizing the same qualities We admire in another. As such, I keep a few on hand. Take all the time you need; I'm sure your expertise will be self-evident."
>For a brief moment slipping into his royal style of address, Domizjan quickly attempts to rectify it, leaving it ambiguous as to whether it is the nation he represents or his own feelings on the matter.

>His attention returns to Torsce. The description she provides of Tinkerers reminds him in no small part of gobbos and their inclination towards the mechanical, or perhaps the reflection of a gremlin—instead of dastardly little creatures of endless malfunction, ingenious pixies and faeries that seem to form a sort of engineering class. With their general inclination being more on the civil side of things, they've taken an aeolipyle to its next step, though the jump into electromagnetism requires materials and awareness that are difficult to stumble across without a sufficient prior basis; perhaps this could act as a bit of permission to accelerate his own academic programs back home.
"The waterworks of this city are especially impressive; the Tinkerers must have spent many years refining their designs to such ends. Amongst many of the cities on water that I have visited, all but a few use their waterwheels solely for mills or smithies; the use of boilers to produce steam is something that I find especially impressive. I've not yet seen the water infrastructure beneath the surface, but do color me curious with regards to their systems. Is there an academic tradition here in addition to the Tinkerers? Or is it more of an apprenticeship progression?"

>Trade is well, not quite the same as elsewhere, given its only need for growth is in direct correlation to its population. Self-sustaining with the occasional input from Procel's dungeons emerging should allow for a fairly regular expansion of certain necessary goods, while magic can help make up for labor shortcomings elsewhere. The whole affair and structure reminds him a bit of a centralized power over necessities and then an independent market economy based on independent or worker-owner actors. Not going to grow too rapidly, but it also means entering the market could find pressure from up top if it threatens their sovereign control of fundamentals... Best keep the market for trade in luxuries.
"Given that Fermata has been isolated so long, a self-sufficient economy is necessary. Working together to make certain the needs of the populace are met through a combination of controlled market means and independent actors is a responsible approach that requires a careful eye; Prince Pelos has certainly managed the disparate actors and interests well to keep a cyclical economy with minimal external input while fostering an environment that produces so many skilled artisans.
"I am curious though—as you've mentioned Princess Kepa and her Defenders and Prince Venari and his Rangers a few times now—as to what exists out beyond the walls. Are there further cities, settlements? Or is it near barren aside from the dungeons and those that dwell within... or come to break themselves on the walls of the city?"

(Market group)

>With Rynn and Alice in the lead looking for jewelry, the group heads into the more established shop area. They pass a store selling tattoos with an advertisement proclaiming "With a fertility blocking design you'll never need to take birth control again!" Common designs are depicted, with various minor magical benefits listed under each one. A footnote says that mundane tattoos are half off. The next store over appeared to be an apothecary selling medicinal herbs and powders from the signs on the wall. It takes a bit of wandering around, but they do eventually find a jewelry shop. Unlike the ones selling trinkets in the Wanderer's Market, this one was the real deal with gemstones and precious metals. The proprietress was a dragonkin adorned with gold and rubies, showing off the merchandise. She welcomes the group in, but is especially interested in Rynn.

"Oh Darling, you've got wings! And how beautiful they are! They'd look even better with some metal and gems! What are you looking for today? If you've got the coin, you can walk out of here wearing a whole hoard's worth of jewels."

>She addresses the whole group next.

"Feel free to look around. And if you have anything in mind that you don't see on display, just ask. I've got more in the back that might be what you want."

>A few more women seem fascinated with the twins from afar, but are hesitant to approach after word travels around of Glensi getting spooked. Ultimately it's Dreza that comes to find them again. She sits down next to them and starts talking.

"So not interested in sampling the locals? That's fine too. You're powerful and exotic, it's no wonder that you've caught some eyes. But we're smart enough to not force the issue. Well I am at least, and they know better than to not listen to me. Besides, there's plenty of time for us to get to know each other better. No need to rush into things. Maybe bring the fiancees to meet us at some point. You could all have some fun together if that's what you're worried about. We're just trying show you some hospitality, you know?"

>She stays quiet for a bit and takes a hit from her pipe. Blowing the smoke up and away, she offers the pipe to them.

"Want some? It's the good stuff. Dream Dust. Makes you feel good while you're awake, but it doesn't really kick in until later when you sleep. Gives the sweetest dreams you'll ever have. It's made from pixie dust and some kind of mushroom if I remember right."

>What [Status] has to say about it is that it was a hallucinogenic that also temporarily grants the effects [Absolute Comfy]. It would be mild until bedtime, but then it would knock the person smoking it straight to dream land.

"You should be more careful with your words. You're starting to sound like some savage warlord instead of an elegant lady. I wouldn't shed any tears for the desert tribes even if you managed to wipe them out. Not that you could. True extermination of the threats out there is impossible."

"He's a little bit of both. He isn't the designated summon that I made the initial contract with in my youth, but the descendants of the first will still come if I call. I haven't had as much need to ever since I became an elder, but I was quite the beast caller during my time in the Rangers."

>Dovi is less than impressed by Bene.

"There was a time where I called myself a queen too. I thought I could conquer the whole desert, only to realize the futility of it all as time went on. Joining up with Fermata was the best decision I ever made for my people. The serpentkin of today don't realize how good they have it, despite the setbacks. I just happen to be the only one that can remember what it was like before. Like Telart said, I've extended my life with dark magic. I hope you don't find that too distasteful. I only drain vitality from Fermata's enemies nowadays."

>She grins, as though her choice of victims made the act less vile.

"But what of you? What are you doing for your own people here in this foreign land? You came yourself instead of sending an ambassador, so I'm assuming just how fledgling of a kingdom it is you rule. No guards either. Using the riftgate in the first place implies a level of power though, so you may just be confident in your own ability to protect yourself. Well? Are you meeting with us out of curiosity or some sense of racial responsibility, or is there actually something you want from us?"

>The twins are relieved that they have established a line to not cross.
"Thank you Dreza. We are sure they would be happy with that so long as both involved and together. Even if the thought drives us...possessively crazy."
>Their nose, ears and tails twitch as they staaaare at the pipe. If they were sober they would be more suspicious, but Dreza herself taking it in spades must mean its safe right?
It would be rude....not to.
>The twins each took a turn to smoke, feeling a yearning for sleepmode they had not felt since the early winter.
"Mmmrrr- one" "one" "two" "two"
>Oh dear they were counting tails like one counts sheep with drowsy eyes

Bene pauses for the briefest of moments to think over her actions and how they might be perceived and simply shrugs her shoulders.
"Well, I technically am. The only difference from what I think you have in mind is that I do not find pleasure in the act of killing, the exception being that it is deserved, such as with retribution."

She beams.
"I love that. You do seem to treat them kindly, Elder."

The elapid tilts her head.
"Just as there are those that are weaker than you, there are those just as much stronger than you. I would do well to heed your words, which I already do with that wisdom, but I will not act shortsightedly when I know all-too-well that there is an entire nation to the distant south of my pitiful territory whose independent slavers make war with peoples across a considerable distance, the majority of whom that hold influence "drain vitality" like yourself."
Realizing that her emotions have gotten the best of her when trying to engage in diplomacy, Bene puts a palm to her brow and sighs deeply, trailing into an almost growl.
"My apologies. I forget that almost everyone here has not been in contact with Nocturne. I do not hold how you decided to extend your lifespan against you, either. I am a half-Vampire, a Dhampir, myself."

She gives a curt, yet understanding nod.
"My most trusted confidant manages my fledgling kingdom in my absence. She is more proficient than I in management anyhow. I am a Chosen of not one, but two Arbiters, so I best be capable of holding my own. As for the meeting? Curiosity, first and foremost, and the opportunity to obtain knowledge. I also know magic, so I am expecting a transactional relationship for the time being. Does this clear anything up? Feel free to ask about more."

"Uh, I know tons of monsters parts that are good to eat but not so much what's useful as materials. Meru?"
"Kraken skin, sealing tape?"
"Oh yeah, you make kraken skin into that sticky stuff for making airtight seals, but it's also tasty fried up! Now that I think about it, we also use different types of slimes both for cooking and your alchemy stuff."

>>82004804
"I think the Humies cared about me wearing too little clothing but I guess that's not a problem here. Can't say I bought enough clothes from that Humie town to known anything about paying for unused material either."

"The monsters might be heat resistant but would that matter if I turn the sand to glass around them? Or just dump them in a lava pool."

>>82072973
>The dragons ignore any ads about fertility control: Meru makes her own birth control, and Rynn generally doesn't bother using any. The other magic tattoos are of minor interest but not something they would trust getting from this city so soon after arriving. The apothecary draws Meru's attention but just to remember it's location for later.
>Upon entering the jewelry shop Rynn immediately starts preening under the proprietress's praise, flaunting her wings as best she can within the store's limited space.
"Heh, feel free to take a closer look if ya want!"
>Meru giggles at seeing the exact behavior she was expecting from her partner before wandering off to look at some of the displayed merchandise.
"Well since you brought it up, you got anything that'll stay on my wings without needing piercings? It's kinda hard to pierce my body and I heal pretty quickly so I'd have to leave any piercings on all the time. Stuff that'll clamp on around the edges or the base would be good. I'd also like to get a full set of regular jewelry in the local style, so necklaces, rings, bracelets and bangles, whatever ya got. I prefer rubies like what you're wearing and other red gems on anything that would use them."

>The mention of the boilers caught Torsce off guard for a moment.

"You actually know what those are? The rest of the world wasn't waiting for us I suppose. They're still in the early phases of adoption. You'll only really see them here in Wheel Town. We don't have enough fuel to use them in a more widespread fashion. There are models that can be heated with elemental magic instead, but methods that aren't over reliant on magic are typically preferred by the tinkerers. Not all, but those combining magic and technology are the exceptions. Personally I don't really see why the distinction matters to them so much."

"There's no standardized education system. The noble families handle teaching their ways to their children themselves. The temples teach things like magic, history, and art. Tinkerers teach what they can to the other races, but the prevailing attitude there is that it's not worth the difficulty of learning it when you can just leave it to the tinkerers. The Defenders and the Rangers both offer youth training programs teaching relevant skills for those interested in joining them in the future. Apprenticeships are common for other skilled positions."

"The desert is the domain of Crelop. We have a settlement for exiles just outside the walls, but other than that all we have are some Ranger outposts. There are a few monster tribes with villages out there, but most of them are hostile. The birdkin of Vulture Rock for example, or the serpentkin tribes that refused negotiation when we accepted friendlier tribes into the city. Some of the dungeons to be found in the sands are in the form of cities, but none of them could be said to have been built or maintained by their current inhabitants. The desert itself is technically one massive dungeon. Navigation is difficult because the sands shift and space twists. Things change location and the path is never the same, but the Rangers have managed to decipher some underlying rules and patterns. The whole region is surrounded by an everlasting sandstorm that always spits you back out into the desert if you attempt to pass through it."

"Surprisingly, the desert is not as barren as it may appear. It's full of life adapted to the chaos and harsh conditions. It's just that much of that life is driven to unnatural rage against us. There are always monsters willing to throw their lives away trying to destroy Fermata. The dungeons grow in strength over time, and if they aren't cleared quickly enough they will launch an assault against the city. The greatest of Crelop's champions have been granted a perverse immortality. No matter how many times they're vanquished, they will always eventually return. Make no mistake, the peaceful Fermata you see is earned through conflict unending."

"Glassing the area huh? Make sure the sandworms aren't actually friendly just weird about it, in which case the magma pool might be pool party time"
"And yeeeh humies care a lot more than most, though I kinda get away with a lot more, perks of being small enough people don't care?"

>>82072973
>Alice takes a look at the tattoos checking out an elaborate pattern made up out of flowing lines that goes around her wings on the back, lighting up her own back with an illusory copy
"Hmmmm, looks pretty nice, and I'm always wearing backless dresses anyways, what do you think?"
>She looks around at the rest of the group, showing just a bit longer to Whisper
"Also what's that about magical tattoos? I eeh, the fertility one might be useful but I've also been looking at some ways to squeeze out a bit more stamina"
"Flying around at high speed gets tiring fast"

>The pixie demonstrates by zooming over at the jewelry store for a moment her eyes lighting up
"Ooooh pretty, such a shame gold is so heavy, maybe a pair of ruby earrings, just to get a bit more color highlights..."
>She keeps switching between stores faster than the usual eye can follow

"So what materials do you use for the tatoos, how are you infusing them with magic? Trade secrets probably"

"And what about the jewelry, must be some amazing mines around if you're producing everything locally"

>>82082056
"Having to keep putting piercings in because you heal too fast, annoying especially on wings"
"Not letting anyone put holes in mine"
