Permanent partners aren’t issued by the departments, but it’s common to be assigned to work with certain Pokemon for specific jobs. Like if there’s a ghost type causing trouble in the city, the department might send you out with a houndoom to help make sure you’re safe while you deal with it. Department issued mons are all like, trained to work with us, and stuff. Now, if you do like I did, you can file to have a personal Pokemon partner that stays with you full-time, if they go through proper training and get certified. So, I can have my Sneasel help me with work, but the rest of my Pokemon need to stay in their Pokeballs/stay home when I’m on the job. Otherwise I could get the department in trouble with a buncha legal mumboh jumboh for using un-certified pokemon in the field

Herding nearby wild pokemon for help is kind of an archaic style of Ranger work. It can be done if needed, but, that’s definitely more of a rural thing. And I’m a city guy.

That's true, I suppose, I guess a part of me feels a space ship is "easier" because it can, like, store food, have a "crew" and stuff, a solo exploration of space sounds... scary. Hmm. Yeah, that's an interesting thing. I wonder if they'd have, like, helmets they could put on that'd allow them to control with their minds or something? Or maybe it'd be like it is now, and the Pokemon species that's most "in charge" would make it for their hands/paws/what have you, and others using the controllers would only be a second thought at best.
But I do feel like battles in real life would be the main focus, so video games probably would seem less exciting than some method of doing that.
