Given how adeptly Gerson as a Darkener helps Susie learn, and how much other people talk up Gerson, I wouldn't be surprised if Gerson was Dess' favorite teacher, and she leaned on him a lot for learning. You could even see Gerson's lesson to Susie about writing her own story having been something that he also told to Dess, albeit more in the vein of composing her own song.

As another anon said, I think people take her character too far in that she was a bigger than life person, when in reality she was likely just a regular teen with her own issues like Kris and Noelle. It certainly would make the consequences of her disappearance feel more genuine in that you don't need to be an important figure to be so sorely missed that your family/friends would risk tooth and nail to bring you back.At the same time I agree that there isn't much to go off, but as another anon said I think we have the bare minimum to make educated guesses to work off in a grounded manner. There's a lot to explore in her relationship with Noelle that never gets brought up in favor with Kris. What I would like to know is how she felt about Noelle's defenselessness.
