The main issues I always have using them as enemies are that a) they're semi-consistently characterized as caring about the wellbeing of their tribe/community even in D&D and b) they have little reason to engage in highly risky pillaging behavior unless they and/or their tribe/community are in desperate need of help. Even my neutral (and some of my evil) NPCs would often prefer to have a kobold warren occupying the sewers and catacombs than pretty much anything else that might take up residence there.(I don't really use alignment, but you get the idea.)(And yeah, not wanting to see dragons get hurt is part of why I don't like using dragon enemies, but that said I'm still more than willing to have, say, a dragon that's been injured by some other party and in (begrudging) need of the party's help.)Sorry for blogging at you.
