>based entirely on one person supposedly finding golden plates that no one else ever saw because they conveniently vanished >the writings are literally just an exact copy of the King James Bible's early 17th century speech and grammar >the writings carry over all of the King James Bible's mistranslations and insertions, actually further bastardizes them in many cases >Zion is in Utah now >you literally become a god/a new Jesus and can create your own worlds and redeem them in the afterlife Like what the fuck, this is only just barely scratching the surface of everything wrong with it. You have to be a complete moron to not see how crazy this entire cult is and yet it somehow grew into an actual religion with millions of followers. How did this even happen? Are Americans really just that retarded?
>>82799501>Are Americans really just that retarded?Scientology was also founded in the USA.
>you literally become a god/a new Jesus and can create your own worlds and redeem them in the afterlifeif you want to believe something self-serving and unfalsifiable, might as well go for the gold
America is the great melting pot, i.e. a cultural intersection like no other. Traditional religions primarily thrive as a social cohesion mechanism, i.e. believing the moral value system that everyone else believes in order to signal that you are cooperative with the herd and not a malicious agitator. Though traditional religions offer some amount of flexibility, the mechanics break when 10 different people have 10 foundationally-different religions. When the inherent ridiculousness of something like "God made Humans in His own image and btw ignore all the chaos of the world, God will patch that out in the afterlife" is brought to light in contrast to the different interpretations of metaphysics, why should it be so surprising that some people choose the option of going maximum-ridiculous?
>>82799577>Are Americans really just that retarded? >Scientology was also founded in the USAWhich means?
That's a blue book.
>>82799577>ScientologyThat one is a literal scam tho, both are bullshit, don't get me wrong. But the creator of scientology himself straight up said it was made to get money from rich idiots, the motherfucker wasn't even religious
>>82803202Really? Where?

>>82799501The craziest part to me is that they claim that a lot of their holy text is written in ancient Egyptian, because they assumed that nobody would ever be able to translate it. Then we found the Rosetta Stone, learned how to translate them, and they're just complete nonsense word salad. Like someone had just, say, grabbed random hieroglyphics and mashed them together, hoping no one would ever be able to read them. And so, they now instead claim that it was actually written in Reformed Egyptian, a completely distinct, unknown version of ancient Egyptian that only they can read.
