Like when people are blank, or when they are lucid and just mistakenly believe something is natural, happily and excited to obey, monotone and dronelike obeying, and also the methods with powers, tech, the classic spiral, sneaky stuff like subliminals, and magic. Honestly the range of everything is so wide it shouldn't be considered 1 fetish. Jiangshi! I love jiangshis, probably mentioned it some time before but I could play along with that! Tight movements and mostly bunny hopping around until warmed up, their bodies are cold without blood or other heat so part of the roleplay would be looking for cuddles to help limber up my stiff cold limbs again to regain mobility, that is only being in character, Mistress! Adding a little animation of scurrying behind cover and hiding there until your burst blows it away and sends me back to the armory! No matter how hard their cc is, I will keep trudging along until I can deliver your sword because I know you will party wipe once they burn through all their potions and get stuck eventually in the stalling hell of using items every turn to prolong the fight at death's door hoping you spend a turn not using a damage move for once! Also going to have a small blurb in the background during your power up move animation cutscene pleading for your dark majesty to not blow up the entire castle which gets ignored.

Much later than I expected, feeling a bit delirious and probably needing some sleep.

Alright, I finished! And...that was a really good starting episode. Spoiler warning for any who care and won't be posting more spoil warnings after, but they really are going for a serious angle it feels like with remote viewing right out of the gate! Serious topics with the prior abduction, kidnapping, death of his sister, how she seems to speak in parts of his dreams we haven't seen, good amount to unpack though I definitely see what you mean about the direction. I like that sort of thing, it is "deliberate" and slow, just normal routines and things at a normal pace with the point of the scene being implied by subtext. Don't have to say his sister died, show the mom crying and empty room. Don't have to say he got abducted, show a kid and a newspaper. Don't have to say a spirit is really there, have the girl who sees his astral projections see the ghost and him linger a look when passing through the spot. Also I like the sound design being mostly atmospheric, kind of hope the show keeps the subtext angle going rather than getting too obvious about things. Also I am most definitely not having impure thoughts on the hypnotherapy since an old man who I absolutely and completely do not trust and will probably discredit anything the MC says because that is in a psychologist's nature, betting on that now.

And yes, you are right I jumped the gun on it being spiritual, but I went there after you said it was to my tastes, and it pretty much is! It's intriguing though, setting up a mystery while laying groundwork probably for later, so am happy and ready to start episode 2 when you are, Mistress!

I think its even sadder. Its not profitable.
Like "tv" shows changing their script to vocally state what's happening, re-repeat their plans and situation, just because they assume that viewer cant keep attention on the show from start to finish, and already doing something on the phone/second screen. Similarly to them including BIG-BUDGED "CLIMAX" MOMENT in the first third/fourth of the movie, rather than in the last one. Because its a fight for attention. Its very hard to produce anything good that way. And about subtly telling the story through details - you can absolutely, fully forget with this approach.

Alright, I finished! And I must say...kept the show-don't-tell directing! Even when laying out the kidnapping, which is a hell of a mystery still actually since non of the kidnapper's actions really do make sense here, it is done by Masayuki investigating who I must say is way too much of a busybody indeed and weird in himself how he has such an interest in people and these topics. Still, kept it subtle by being the product of research, how the giant haunts him was never explicitly stated but now may actually be supernatural in cause and not the kidnapper to help resolve that mystery as he met it again in the forest by the shrine, which btw...fun detail showing the dragon god stir the cloud a little.

That said...I want to get into the fact this author KNOWS things here. Hemi-sync, besides the actual sounds and binaurals which help induce out of body experiences and I can't help but feel are referenced a little by the ambience in this show, but the occult actually teaches quite a few practices whose very purpose is to link brain hemispheres and it's a open secret the degree of linking increases the degree of control and awareness of the astral world. Also the fact all situations of things being astral are accompanied by underwater noises is great too, both for symbolism and the fact it is the tell to the audience that the real world locations the sound occurs in, his mind, his dreams when unaware, and his dreams when in control are all in the same place. Really nice detail. Side-side note too, listening to radio is cool, I have done it before and I think people who do it are good people, I like that about the MC. But I think the author might know things, too soon to say but it's cool!

I have, but I guess the supernatural is sort of "normalized" to me a bit. I don't feel super excited about a lot of things that make people hyper or impacted. Also it happening in the real world in real time on a location where supernatural things happen there and you see things...that is also real, I mean like in that shrine-forest scene. The boundary between dreamscape and astral is extremely thin and bleeds into each other, how it transitions from memory to real world to thoughts is as fickle as it really goes.

But anyways, I am very much ready for episode 3! Side-side note...have you seen Higurashi? Or read its VN? This dam controversy is giving me flashbacks.

Big cliff hanger to leave us on! But I am really glad to be caught up with you, can see the same revelations together, Mistress! I trust Masayuki a lot more now that I see he doesn't have to be some bad actor in disguise but just carries his own baggage and just is seeking those he can relate to probably in his own way for comfort, along with this exposure therapy by exploring the hospital now. All three can relate and had their stories fully explained now, which is probably the set up for things to go chaotic now. Really cool how even with some description Masayuki and Makoto's stories were basically shown, Makoto's father likely being in the exorcism at the start as he played music and whatever curse he had overpowered the priestess, and Masayuki can see things for sure but just is trying to hope it isn't real by cope. Taro doesn't even look at this hike because he has done it a thousand times and is scared new entities may inhabit the path, glad the story telling is remaining the same. Exposure therapy though as the topic...takes a braver person than me to attempt it, I too fear heights and even going up a few steps on a ladder crush me inside so...

But in general all things vibrate in waves, even in ritual to incant properly you vibrate intonations for resonance like a wave. NTA I started to read the original images and the Manga (I'm on chapter 10) now. Thanks to the thread for the recommendation.
I find it interesting how the original posts showed hizumi (the girl) in a more Makima-like fashion, being more harsh and ambiguous yet still having soft spots here and there. She really felt more eerie and mysterious from a first person pov and the time seems more... Pessimistic? Really digging into the loser aspect. The pics where she talks about the Mc trying to be something he's not, comparing him to a zombie during the arcade date, and towards of the end of the theme park date were easily the highlights imo. She went straight for the soul like a poet, and it hits hard.
The Manga is more optimistic. It's a romcom in a sense and while still having hizumi be harsh, it takes a lighter approach and fleshes her and the Mc out more. Plus with the addition of new characters and dynamics in certain chapters. It's interesting and more aligned with romantic Mangas, but still keeps the core concept pretty decently imo.

I mean, sure, you poke and probe, extremely accurately, any sensitivities...I wouldn't say you invade personal space because all space is YOUR space! Which, come to think of it looking back, Masayuki I think actually is genuinely trying to be friendly with everything. Well. Intent-understanding is a thing. But you can hear too, I think it's just developed hemisphere syncing vs undeveloped. It's how all astral forces work actually, same goes for astral projection as well as talking to spirits, everything in this realm sort of goes from "script" and filling in the blanks to a genuine experience. When projecting in some exercises for example, you sort of "create" your experience at first, there is an intrusive thematic you know the intent of, but the feeling and looks are constructed, and with practice one day "poof" you "slip in" and it feels genuinely real. Not that you get that state every time, far from it, but it's a milestone. Same also for talking with spirits, it is an intent and you know what type of thing is said, but you don't "hear" it...until one day, poof, you hear it clear as day as if talking outside of yourself, not at all inside (which is why some practices like automatic writing help a lot as you channel intent and your hand subconsciously writes the channeled words you can't yet hear, but I am rambling again). I just think dreams likely are like that, "intent/script" and then "poof" it's all genuine and real as reality.

That's fine, I am working hard to limit my rambling because if I don't try to force a bare minimum I will go on far far too long on far tangents. Honestly there is a sharp divide of understanding that is noticeable between book-knowledge of it all and experiential-knowledge, imo digging and learning is cool but fails in comparison to even the roughest shallow scratching of actually trying to do things yourself.

Just earlier you did mention OBE! I am very curious, and this makes me think something COULD have happened! Plus treating something as normal only to realize way later there was absolutely nothing normal about it is a very feasible thing, happened to me. Like, small personal history moment, not sure if I mentioned it in any length here before, but in elementary school I was friends with a girl after a move to a new house...who was always in that house. Turns out, she was a girl who died in that home, not by her confessing that fact to me, I just knew her and hung out with her perma-sleepovers, but learned because my family moved out again later because of job and that parts of the home made my parents feel very uncomfortable. Turned out on re-sale investigation, they discovered the history of the place and the little girl's death from illness in the room they felt bad being in (though I didn't feel sad or bad in it). I basically thought nothing of my home-friend I talked every day with for weeks until years later when the house was brought up again with my parents mentioning how the room felt sad and lonely and I connected the dots when I casually mentioned the girl who was over all the time and my parents said we never had anyone over there and I must be misremembering things. I realized what happened then and elected not to tell them more and just agreed I must be thinking of a different place where I did have a female friend in elementary that we hang out together.

Also I really need to sleep, this is almost an all nighter and I realized I have completely zoned out multiple times trying to reply. I don't think I can focus or think at all anymore and need to sleep.
