Im an Aussie wanting to travel to the US for the first time, what cities do you recommend? Advice? Best food places? Disneyland ? Is LA a shithole like everyone says? Is new york worth visiting? What gun ranges do you recommend? Thank you
>>
>>2716131
It depends on what you want to get out of your visit. Do you care more about nature, night life, history, etc.
>>
>>2716131
The Colorado Plateau.

It really depends on what you're looking for.

I usually blanket recommend Washington D.C. because it's the capitol and contains all of the monuments that most exemplify the "American" ideal. However, D.C. to my knowledge doesn't have great night life or stuff like that. You can, however, easily take a train to other places, such as NYC.

Everyone always goes to New York, and if you're looking to have fun there really is no better place. However, New York really has its own culture and doesn't give you a good picture of what America is like more broadly.

If you do hit New York and like comedy, I have to recommend the Comedy Cellar. It's the best comedy club in the world, full stop. Tickets sell out a week in advance and if you don't get them you have get there 3 hours early to make it to the front of the standby line.

You did say you were looking for gun ranges, New York probably isn't the best place for that, but I'm not into that sort of thing.

As for LA being a shithole, it depends. LA is still very pretty, but I think it has the worst, slowest traffic in the country. Even NYC is better.

But San Francisco is much more of a shithole than LA.

come to Wisconsin anon, my and the woman would be glad to have you. A lot of college babes in Madison, we can get you hooked up ez w the accent.
>>
Your pic is of bora bora in French Polynesia. 9hrs from LA, 6 hrs from hawaii

If you like to party, New York is worth it. If you don’t, it’s hit or miss. You may as well go just to say you didn’t. Same with Washington, DC since it’s the capital. The Philly and Boston areas have a lot of historical sites that are easy to drive to. Chicago is probably not worth it. San Francisco is probably not worth it. Los Angeles is more or less the same deal as New York. Las Vegas and Miami are party cities. Honestly, if it were me, I’d prioritize New York City, Philly area history stuff like the Liberty Bell (Philly is also has good food), Texas cowboy stuff and food, and Southern California just to say you saw it. Everything else is inessential.

>>
>>2716441
surely the US is more than just LA right
>>
>>2716131
>what cities do you recommend?
Visit small towns instead.
>Disneyland?
Just goto Europe or Japan's Disney park way better and cheaper
>Is LA a shithole like everyone says?
Yes
>Is new york worth visiting?
No
>What gun ranges do you recommend?
Anywhere in Texas
>>
Not OP, but does Oregon make sense? I'd like to see the pacific northwest, nature and some small towns that inspired Lynch, Life is Strange etc.
>>
>>2716579
Oregon is tough because so much of it has burned. It’s still really nice, but you are basically hoping for good weather to enjoy the coast (not a good bet). Bend is a cool town, pretty ritzy but a nice spot. I lived there for a few years and I thought I’d hate leaving, but really I’m glad to be gone. Still a nice visit though.

I would genuinely suggest Washington over Oregon. Go up to Bellingham, enjoy the San Juans and Mt Baker and all that. Its just nicer.

Assuming money is no issue:
Go to Boston and go see the Colonial era stuff
Go to New Orleans for the French quarter, preferably before a big game or as festival so you can enjoy the craziness
Go to New York, but not to see the overrated tourist traps. NYC has some of the best museums in the world
Go to Montana and Wyoming to see Yellowstone, and hang out in the Big Sky state on a cowboy ranch and shoot some guns there
End in Florida, go to a nice resort and enjoy the beaches and the culture. Go to a club and enjoy easy Latina pussy.
>>
>>2716676
Id add what >>2716415 and>>2716158 sat about DC too. It also has excellent museums and very beautiful monuments if that’s your speed. Good food too.

If you have the time and cash to fit all that in OP, go for it. A 2-3 week vacation just seeing the best of the US sounds like a fantastic time.

Britbong visiting NYC next week, mostly to look at museums. How does one party? I'm a fucking loser.

I think America excels in its natural beauty, but the cities are lacking, even the cool ones like NYC, DC, and New Orleans. They are cool for maybe like a day, but since you are Australian and coming from a developed country you will probably be a bit let down. If I were visiting for the first time, I would focus more on the national parks out West.

LA is truly an overrated shithole, especially Hollywood. Everybody is shocked when they go there, including Americans. It's not like the movies. The weather is nice and there are palm trees and huge mansions but it's all a façade. California has great national parks though.

NYC is cool but has been quite gentrified and hollowed out post-Covid. It's very filthy, aggressive, sketchy, and fast-paced, which may be overstimulating for an Aussie. It's also it's own cultural enclave and not really like the rest of the country. But it's always cool to visit.

I live in DC and it's somewhat clean but kinda boring. I would go in late March/early April where the entire city is white and pink with cherry blossoms and it's not swampy. If you like American history it's nice. Good for a day or two.

New Orleans is quite culturally distinct but only a pocket of it is actually worth seeing. The rest is a literal slum and it smells like sewage.

I would recommend going to eastern Tennessee/western North Carolina but they just got completely destroyed by Hurricane Helene. I love the Smoky Mountains region.
Asheville was one of my favorite cities but it just got destroyed.

i will second this. if you're an ameriboo and you don't have any place in mind visit the coastal megalopolis cities. land in DC, spend a few days, take the train to Philly, few days, spend a few days in NYC, then go to Boston, then go home. if you're interested at all in american history there is plenty of cool stuff to see, and if you're just a turbonormie all of these cities have some of the best entertainment in the world. the benefit of this itinerary compared to others is this is basically the only place in the country where you don't have to rent a car. it's very convenient to take amtrak between all of these cities and the stations are all right downtown.

partying in nyc is easy mode. just dress up a bit, make sure you look clean and smell good, go walk around east village and lower east side, and walk in to any bar or restaurant that looks cool. the only downside to NYC is that it's so posh people will judge you if you dress like a peasant, but you can easily avoid this with 30 bucks at H&M. just make sure to smile a bit and have a friendly personality and you'll meet some intersting people. you never know who you'll bump into in nyc that's what makes it so fascinating. i've met argentinian computer scientists, scottish sci-fi authors, french polynesian record producers, all just from talking to random people at bars in new york.

>>2716131
Manhattan in NYC is really nice. Great food from pretty much every culture you can think of and I highly recommend going to the One World Observatory and 9/11 memorial if you're in town.

If you're into more naturey shit, I feel like Salt Lake City has beautiful mountains or in states like Arizona there's the Grand Canyon as well other really beautiful landscapes if you like the desert.
>>
>>2716465
>Yes
I'm on manhattan beach right now. certified non-shithole, but a little sterile because you'd have to have a multi-million property to actually live here lol

lots of amerimutts upon arrival in LAX tho

>NYC, Philly, DC

If ignore these two posters. All the major cities in the BosWas corridor (Washington DC to Boston) are non essential unless you are specifically drawn to one. Being that you ask if NYC is worth it, doesn't seem like you're drawn to it. Outside of the big cities there is nice stuff to visit around there. For exanple if you like small town boating/marina feel, Newport RI and Nantucket

For essential big cities I would do
Miami (see the Keys while there, Key Largo to Key West)

Then go to
New Orleans
Then Santa Fe (Taos is nice too)
Then San Diego
Then visit the spots in Los Angeles you always wanted to visit then do the drive to Vegas
Then do San Francisco
Then either Seattle or mountain Town like Jackson Hole WY or Aspen CO
>>
>>2718001
>Manhattan in NYC is really nice
Manhattan is the opposite of nice. Nobody walks around Manhattan and thinks "this is nice"
What's really nice in that area would be a nice spot across the water where you have a nice view of the skyscrapers across the water
>>
>>2716131
As a Brit who's just been to LA (had a good time despite what I'm going to say)

LA is a bit of a shithole, fuck knows how anyone lives there. Shitloads of traffic on terrible roads with shit drivers (gotta love getting overtaken by a fully loaded lorry doing 85mph down a steep hill), you're never more than a couple of turns from a slum where you're genuinely worried for your safety.

However Disneyland and Universal are both good and worth visiting (plus a bunch of more traditional theme parks). Las Vegas or SF are 5 or so hours drive away. LV has a load of gun range options.

If you want to do Disney, you're better off going to Orlando, it's much less of a stressful place and the theme parks are better, especially with Epic Universe opening.
>>
>>2716131
the shithole aspect of usa cities is a mixed bag - there is so much cool stuff but you can never relax, even in the cool areas
>>
>>2720972
How can you go into a US city and not be relaxed like everyone else?
>>
Sounds exciting! NYC's great. Try LA too. Disneyland's fun. Food varies. Gun ranges depend on state.

LA will probably be easiest for you. It's closes and has everything on your wishlist. LA sucks to live in but it's fun to visit. I think you'd have fun just exploring California. You can do guns, food, and disneyland there. Also Yosemite National Park and Redwood Naitonal and State Parks. And San Francisco.
>>
Honestly skip the cities and see national parks. America’s national parks are incredible
>>
>>2716131
go to alaska or new orleans. new york is overrated imo unless your only interest is consooming or you are a theater gay.
>>
>>2716131
>Im an Aussie wanting to travel to the US for the first time, what cities do you recommend?
Really depends on what you're into. You like museums? NYC, hands down. You like colonial history? Go to Boston and take some day trips to other places around New England, like Mystic Seaport (fantastic museum btw) or Newport for the mansion tours. You like clubbing and warm weather? Miami. You like winter sports? Fly into Denver and then take a bus to a ski resort. Do you want to gamble? Vegas. Are you a deviant who wants to visit sex clubs? San Fran or Portland. Et cetera.

>Advice?
99% of staying safe in the US is avoiding minorities and drug addicts.

>Best food places?
Most places have decent food if you know where to look; past that you'll need to be more specific.

>Disneyland ?
Overrated, crowded and incredibly expensive.

>Is LA a shithole like everyone says?
Yes, as is urban California generally and especially the bay area. It's not all bad but it's all expensive and getting anywhere is fucking miserable.

>Is new york worth visiting?
If you want a fully urban experience, yes. Good food everywhere ranging from five dollar sloppa from a cart on the street to $800 prix fixe menus and bottles of wine that cost as much as a car, some of the best museums anywhere on earth and I can guarantee that no matter what your hobby or interest is you're going to be able to find a brick and mortar shop that caters to it.

>What gun ranges do you recommend? Thank you
Probably the ones in Vegas. They're going to be expensive, but if you're willing to drop the dosh you can shoot machine guns.

The real strength of American tourism is the rural areas. If I were you, I'd fly to San Fran, rent a compact RV and then spend a week or two just dicking around north of there. Go see the redwoods and the sequoias, go see Mt. Shasta, go hike in the coast range, go see the Lost Coast and dig clams on the beach in Oregon. Not now, of course. Daylight is shrinking fast; do it next summer.

My father wants me to go to Texas with him next year, any suggestions on what to do there or close by states. Probably march next year
