Not a well traveled person nor am I a frequenter of this board so sorry if I break any rules. Basically I live in the northeast US and I’m entertaining the idea of visiting LA (or just somewhere with nice weather in cali in general) sometime in the winter. I’d just like to beat the cold and smoke some weed. I’m aware of the homeless problem + overall shitty neighborhoods, just wondering where to look and where not to look, what’s affordable (let’s say the budget is 2k for a weekend or so) what to do, that type of thing.

Newport beach or SD have the best weather in the world, I would recommend yoing to inspiration point for a great view and less tourists, also nice place to bring a bitch or two as there are some secluded areas if you walk past the park and beyond the rocks

If you want the LA experience with slightly less bullshit, there is Long Beach, which is a sort of stopover between Orange County and LA. Just came back from a convention last weekend and it was pleasant. Granted I didn't do much besides the convention and the aquarium, but for the brief time it was a good unwind.
>>
I'm going to stay at manhattan beach for a week. What am I in for?

Never visited LA alone

Yes Long Beach has plenty of great neighborhoods, especially Downtown, 4th Street, Belmont Shore, and Alamitos Beach. Not a ton of homeless people there either. You're in easy driving distance to Orange County and great beaches like Seal Beach, Bolsa Chica and Huntington Beach. The other direction, San Pedro has random Italian and Croatian restaurants. If you want to get into LA proper though, you'd have to drive on the freeways or through some crappy neighborhoods

It's pretty nice, that's the South Bay more of a suburban areayou can drive down PCH to Hermosa or Redondo. Torrance and Gardena have a large Japanese population, so you could find good food there. Not a ton to do in terms of culture of museums, you'd have to drive to LA of the Westside for that. Prep yourself for the traffic on the 405 though

the South Bay, Long Beach, and the Gateway Area (Whittier, Downey) are chill unassuming places with not a ton to do but the hotels there are cheaper than the tourist hotspots in LA and the Westside. You will need a car, but all three aforementioned areas are relatively close to the beaches, Orange County, and Downtown. You can find dispensaries in many places but Long Beach has more (college town).

For hotel rooms, avoid Hollywood, Downtown, and the Westside in general. Way more homeless people and fuckery there

well shit boys. I came here carless
I'll be beach walk hiking or riding a rental bicycle I guess lol

Where to move in SoCal if I'm pulling 250-300k remote?
Straight to santa monica or what?
>>
>>2716456
fpbp stay out of los angeles city limits and you'll be fine. everything shitty about southern california is in LA proper: downtown, skid row, compton/basketball containment zone, santa monica, and so on and so forth.

if you're willing to spend 2k for a weekend i'd honestly just go to santa barbara. less riff raff.
>>

long beach is garbage don't take this advice. screaming tweakers everywhere. dog shit and human shit everywhere. i'm so glad i left california.
>>

orange county is where all the startups are right now. if you're working in science or tech that's where i'd go. it's expensive but you can afford a good mortgage even there on 250k/year.
>>
Are people really talking about Orange County? Nobody wants to visit Orange County
>>

OC has better shopping centers than LA. Not to mention Disneyland. Better beaches too

You are a retarded poorfag lmao the asian whores are better and less annoying and it's actually clean if you avoid the poorfag Mexican areas also great vietnamese food in garden Grove

We are on a travel forum. Nobody wants to go on vacation to visit Orange County

Orange County is significantly nicer than LA county. They have none of the violent crime that plagues LA and extremely few homeless people in the beach towns. Newport, Corina Del Mar, San Clemente and Laguna are 99 percent Asian and white. It's easier to get around with less traffic than LA. It closer to the theme parks. The people are nicer in Orange County. The beaches are better. The airport is 100 times easier to get in and out of.

The only thing that LA has is more variety of food, but Orange County has more restaurants than you could try in a lifetime. I can't think of a single reason anyone should go to LA over Orange County unless you're a Mexican who really wants to hang with A LOT other Mexicans.

Stay in Santa Monica one night.
Then rent a convertible and drive up the PCH all the way to Monterrey.
Coolest solo trip I’ve ever done.

yellow fever posters are a pest. why the fuck would you want to go to orange county besides good viet food.

I'm from the northeast and living in socal temporarily and it SUCKS. I've traveled about a decent amount of the country and a little overseas and this is one of the worst places I have laid eyes upon excepting mumbai. If you're in town temporarily I would probably go up to the bay area instead. mt. tam, point reyes, and drake's beach are awesome and beat anything socal has to offer. plus there's a great chinatown and the dim sum is good. highly recommend watching the sunset from mt. tam.

The beaches in Orange County are the best in the US. The weather is consistently amazing, there are waves for surfing, they're safe, the girls are insanely hot, the nightlife is mostly white, it's close to the theme parks, no homeless, great food with a huge variety, great shopping, tons of nice hotels.
>>
Sounds fun!
>>
Santa Ana is in Orange County, an hour from Hollywood Blvd
>>
Speaking of hotties, here are some at The Victory Garden Hollywood, half a mile down Hollywood Blvd from the Chinese Theater

There's plenty of stuff to do in Orange County, the beaches on par if not better than LA County beaches, especially Bolsa Chica and Huntington Beach. Decent hiking near Irvine too

Doesn’t it get a bit chilly up in the bay? I’m planning to go somewhere it’ll be warm in the winter. I’d be up to visit the bay some time but the snowbird aspect is a big factor for what I have in mind now.

I've had better in the Midwest.

There's all kinds of good restaurants in MB. I like Poncho's. It's a walkable area if you're not fat.

Santa Ana is the literal worst part of Orange County. It's where all the Hispanics live. Don't go there.

I'm British (London) looking to visit Santa Rosa next year July to attend Beaglefest, an event for Peanuts comic fans. The most conventional route what I see is a flight LHR to San Francisco, and then I think a once a day shuttle bus to Santa Rosa. Do I need to be more creative than that? I see Santa Rosa has it's own airport (STS) and maybe could fly from LHR to Seattle/Tacoma, and then STS.

Went to Cali on vacation, now i want to work there. Trying to avoid Amazon for the h1b I need but it seems inevitable. Applied for like 167 jobs through Linkedin, but seems hopeless. Any good agencies that sponsor eurofags with 11 years of sysadmin experience??? Would be coming in with a RN wife and 2 kids.

Not sure if https://gip-us.com/ can help you out, but they're helping jeets move into my hometown, they all work for amgen. Worth a call at the least. The jeet problem isn't bad (yet) and the area is still super dope, great place for family / outdoors and you're 20 min from the beach. Zero homeless people, majority white, and the jeets even segregate themselves. there's a minority jewish population but they're segregated too and keep to themselves.

you either have to go for soulless corporate like oracle or go for broke and try to get in to a startup. both are difficult but only one is soul crushing.
