What's there to do in and around Sydney besides the obvious tourist-y shit like going to the opera house?
>>
>>2724228
Nothing. The touristy places in Sydney are all memes and way over priced. The non-touristy stuff is just going to the beach or doing the same crap (malls, movies, clubs, pubs) that you can do in any other country. Don't waste your time or money in Australia, go to SEA, South America or other areas.
>>
>>2724228
Genuinely nothing notable, parks that are nothing special, decent cafes and so on but nothing to actually “do” that is unique to Sydney or Australia unless you love native Australian animals or plants
>>
>>2724228
as a european who lived there for almost a year
i liked taking the ferries underneath harbor bridge at night. also liked scouring for food in china town. darling harbor is nice. seeing aussie hipsters get fucked up in newtown is fun. I also went to a dogracing track because it's illegal in my cuntry lol. bondi beach in the summer or one of the smaller ones is a no brainer. overall yeah sydney is kinda boring especially the night life is cucked but there is fun to be had for sure

Is the opera house even interesting to visit? Just looks like a concrete abomination to me.
>>

stick to the obvious touristy shit, that's about all it's got going for it (ex.local here)
only really need to spend a few days in Sydney, it's expensive as fuck for no real reason and getting more crowded by the day.

I think it's worth it, no other building like it in the world. they royally fucked up the acoustic design when the place was first built, so they've gone through multiple iterations to try and bandaid the audio quality in there (which really has worked for the most part). do a tour there, if you're feeling spendy, book a dinner at bennelong one night
>>
Be glad that you're in Australia instead of Canada.
>>

Do you have to take a tour of the opera house, or can you just walk in and look around?
>>
>>2724798
typically can't just walk in, as they run events all the time.
the tour is a good way to get a behind the scenes/architectural tour of the place, but check their schedule when you're in town, they can have some pretty decent events there.
I saw Tycho, Penn and Teller, the BTTF and LOTR trilogies with the SSO playing the score live, there was also a sleepover project by Max Richter which I tried to get tickets to but they sold out quick. been there heaps, all for varied events, never for opera though, not really my thing.

>i liked taking the ferries underneath harbor bridge at night.
Taking a boat under a bridge is no amazing experience. Once you've done it once that's it, no big deal.
>scouring for food in china town.
Seriously? Just go to Asia where you can get the same food at a fraction of the price.
>darling harbor is nice
Now I know you're not being sincere. Darling Harbour is a shithole. The old harbourside shopping area has been demolished to make way for a giant apartment building to sell to rich Chinese money launderers.
>newtown
Was rough, gritty and bit cool in 80s. Was bohemian and alternative in the 90s and early 2000s. Now it is gentrified, overpriced, boring, lame and normie.
>bondi beach
One of the meme attractions of Sydney, it's not even the best beach in Sydney. Crawling with begpackers and unsavoury types.
>sydney is kinda boring especially the night life is cucked
Aussies don't do nightlife very well. Their idea of nightlife is going out, getting pissed to the gills with overpriced alcohol and then assaulting some bystander for no apparent reason. This is why Australia has such strict alcohol laws and why venues have too many rules and close early.

>Is the opera house even interesting to visit?
No more so than any other opera house anywhere else in the world. The view is nice, walk around it, take some photos and thats it.
>Just looks like a concrete abomination to me.
It's covered in white tiles, it's not bad looking, but year whatever.
Ultimately anything you can do in Sydney you can do just about anywhere else in the world, usually cheaper.

dude, shut the fuck up, keep the tourists there, don't need more saar's perving and skeezing all the women out at the other beaches.
in all fairness, I learned to surf at bondi as a kid. easy to get to via public transport from the city, decent sized beach, good surf, decent swimming zones (swim between the flags FFS), it's also close to foreshore restaurants, etc.
>>
Check out the opera house
>>
take a ferry to manly and check out the north head. nice beaches and cliffs. quaint buildings and street planning

I want to do a trip to Australia mostly to see wildlife. I just love the unique wildlife like koalas and kangaroos and want to see them in the wild. Is Sydney a good place to go and do wildlife tours from? And should I book a wildlife tour, or just like rent a car and drive to the wilderness myself?
>>
Take a daytrip to the Blue Mountains.
>>
>>2729920
better off going to one of the wildlife parks that are around, way better chances of getting up close and personal

I live semi rural, backing onto a huge national park so I have better chances than most, but i've only seen Koalas and Echidnas and wombats in the wild only a couple of times in my life.
Kangaroos are fairly easy if you know where to look.. dumb little fuckers they are.

so yeah, either a smaller guided tour, or just go to a wildlife park, which is pretty good in it's own way, I still enjoy going to them every few years
>>

Every time I've been in Sydney I just end up pub crawling through the Rocks. I don't know what else you would do there.
- Perth dude
>>
>>2729920

Visit a national park for that. My last trip to the Stirling Ranges I took an old farm road behind the mountains. Every 100m there was a fresh kangaroo corpse on the side of the road. Buggers aren't too bright and can cause a serious car accident.

Shitney is a hole the CBD is full of mainlander chinese everywhere else is full of jeets.

There's a few places that are nice on clear sunny day, but any fun Sydney has was gone by the mid 2010's because of all the thirdies moving here.

Do the local tourist shit then head up to the Goldie its like Sydney on crack from the 2000's a lot more fun and cleaner overall.

The beaches are nicer too.
>>
>go to one of the 30 beaches
>go to taronga zoo
>opera house
I mean that is literally it, we have nothing here of any actual uniqueness that you can't find anywhere else. We are an inferior culture that brings things in from everywhere around the world, with nothing to call our own.
