I want to visit Italy but I am only really interested in Sicily and Mt Vesuvius/Naples, will I be disappointed? I am also visiting Rome over christmas but only because friends are going.

Climbing Etna in Sicily is amazing and Catania is great. I rented a car and visited several little towns in the Catania Area all of which were worth it.
I have never been to Vesuvius but I've been to Naples, which is a chaotic metropolis and has many sights to see. While they pushed most of the obvious crime out of the touristy areas, I'd keep a hand on my pocket in there.
