Have you ever traveled somewhere where you just "gave up"? Literally stopped doing anything out of boredom and just did nothing until the time for your flight home arrived.

For me it was Hawaii (big island). Boring as fuck cutout of rural mainland america floating in the pacific.

I once booked a flight with a 17-hour layover in Japan on purpose. I was planning on using that time to do a quick daytrip before heading over to my actual destination. I ended up spending a chunk of that time in the airport, and most of the rest in the hotel. All I did in Japan was take a shower, watch some TV, go to sleep, and eat some food. I did nothing touristic. I know for a fact Japan is not a boring country at all (I've visited it before), but I ended up doing nothing magnificent with my time here. The most culture I've experienced during this stay was eating a traditional Japanese breakfast.

Thank fuck my actual trip wasn't bad, and I only wasted a day at most.

Sounds like you were just exhausted.
>>

Maybe so, but I could've done without the TV and some of the sleep. At the very least, I could've put more effort in it than just thinking to myself "Man, I'm bored."

mostly happens when travelling for work. all the intentions of trying out local restaurants or doing a bike tour or something, but end up finishing work, ordering room service before the cutoff and then just watching TV until it's time to sleep.

Hawaii would only be boring if you were a dumb poorfag and didn't rent a car. It's one of the most fascinating and diverse natural landscapes on the entire planet...yet you spend your trip laying in bed, which you could've done just as well at home. What a waste.

For me, obsessing over food is the solution to boredom. Also, don't fuckin lay in bed during waking hours. Bed rotting is second to heroin addiction for destroying your motivation and enjoyment of the travel life.

>rent a car
I did fag. Everything on the big island worth seeing is an hour apart. Even if you wanna see the volcano you needed a car with 4WD.
>>
>>2725721
I already assumed OP was renting a car. I can't imagine traveling in the US without one (unless you're staying in NYC or Las Vegas, which clearly wasn't the case for OP).

Was in North Dakota recently for a week and ran out of juice by the last couple days. Wasn't horrible though.

Had this experience not realizing the tourist town I was going to is actually a sundown town.
Littleton NH was probably the worst for it. So much hype, and it's got about a half mile strip of standard family-friendly tourist shops, like five restaurants, and everything's closed by 8pm.
Concord NH was another that actually surprised me because it's a much bigger tourist town. I really expected there to be a bar I could hang out in during the evening, but nope. Everything's closed by 9pm.

Conway*, not Concord

Not quite, no. I’ve given up on a few stops and moved on to other places before I intended to on a number of occasions—I had planned to spend two nights in Sintra, Portugal, but after checking out the Pena Palace complex we bailed, not even spending the night. The sites and views are OK (at best), but th4 “town” sucks—it’s just a crowded, hollowed-out kiosk, with no local residents. Didn’t stay as long as I intended in Siem Reap, either—Angkor is a must-see, but the city is overdeveloped for tourism and I hated it. I don’t want to drink cheap buckets of beer in bars owned by British people. Phnom Penh is a shithole, but it’s got local life to it beyond slinging stuff to backpackers.

And like >>2725700, I’ve had a few overnight or all-day layovers I didn’t take advantage of, just bathing and eating and going back to the airport, or in one case, just hanging out in a lounge for like ten hours, those don’t bother me at all—I keep my expectations low for those and I’m usually exhausted.

Canada.

I'm from Australia and was there for a wedding, the flights there were expensive for me and I ended up needing to stay there an extra week to be able to afford it all (They were like $1000 cheaper on a better airline). But fuck me, Vancouver was just such a dull place, I caved in and started begging friends for help. Luckily one of my friends let me borrow a few dollars and we met up in San Deigo and crossed into Mexico for a few days. I think I had more interesting stories from waiting in line to cross back into the US than I did from the rest of my time in Canada.

Yeah, the nature is much more appealing than either of those sprawly tourist trap villages. Good luck seeing a single attractive girl on the street in either place, kek. It's all middle-aged parents with kids.
>>2725725
If you have a car you're paying good money for and still lay around the hotel room doing nothing, you're just a lazy piece of shit. My dad visited the Big Island for his honeymoon and loved the nature there so much, he couldn't get enough of exploring the place.

How were you bored on the big island? Why did you go there in the first place if not to see the beautiful and incredibly diverse nature?
>>
>>2725587
I did a cruise solo, and definitely ended up like this.

>1 day at sea, 3 days of excursions, then 2 more days at sea

The first day at sea was fun. I explored the whole ship.
3 days of excursions were awesome,
but the final 2 days to return to port became miserable. I just sat around the room watching TV, and headed to the buffet any time I could make room for food... Also had no wifi or service the whole time

>How were you bored on the big island? Why did you go there in the first place if not to see the beautiful and incredibly diverse nature?

Have you been there? 95% of the island looks like Virginia. Even the few beaches suck. The 5% that's different is the Hilo side of the island, which is indeed a jungle. Not cool enough to warrant a trip, one hike and you've seen it.

Volcano I couldn't traverse as I didn't have the right type of vehicle

Barcelona was fucking abysmal but I still did a ton of shit. Was fucking gay as hell. Never going back there. Why the fuck would you willingly not do shit when you go somewhere?
>>
>>2727318
>Barcelona
>Was fucking gay as hell.
Good thing you didn't go to Sitges, which is a short drive from Barcelona, and is actually the gay capital of Spain.

lmfao
It's a sleepy city, sure. So if you're a classic ausie that just loves to be loud and party i guess you'll have a shit time. But you're in one of the most beautiful places on earth and can surf and ski in the same day. surely you could have found things to do.

>Littleton NH was probably the worst for it.
Besides /out/ activities, I have no idea why anyone, ever, would want to visit Littleton. Though, Schilling Beer Co. is well worth a visit.
