>>2726996It's not that bad, anon. I hopped off the bus in Tumaco with no idea of what the city was like. It was a Real Traveler experience for sure. The city is filthy and reeks of swamp smells. Afro-Colombians are a very exuberant people, constantly hooting and hollering at each other. Stayed in some shitty cheap hotels with no A/C, walked through Africa-tier slums on stilts in the mangrove swamps. The beach is nice. Of course you've gotta watch your ass and be prepared to stand up for yourself if any local "friends" start fucking with you. It's the jungle; strength is respected, weakness is preyed on. Unlikely you'll be jumped out of nowhere, particularly if you are reasonably tall and fit. They will nearly always try some trust-building exercises first before they put the pressure on you to give them what they want. Always know when it is time to abruptly break it off and walk away. Some guy in Tumaco who befriended me wanted to "see" my watch, offered me cocaine and marijuana in exchange for it, then refused to hand it back. I grabbed it from him forcefully, said some very angry words about how all thieves should be killed, and walked off. Sometimes you need to show people you are not to be fucked with.
